If it's any help I was with Flogas previously for about 18 months for electricity only and had no issues with them.

I would also like to know what happens after September next year. The contract is for 18 months so can a customer leave after that without penalty and if not what price will they pay then … same as they have been paying or will they be moved on to a variable rate?

The BWG deal was for 18 months at the time it launched in March this year. There is only 12 months left at the fixed rate.

Fixed is as it's says, the base rate on the Flogas BWG site will not change up or down until 30th September 2026.

when the fixed price deal ends in September you will be notified of your contract moving to a variable rate and at this point you can move anywhere without penalty, we are 6 months into the 18 month deal at this stage so you’re joining late

Chances are bwg will organise another deal with flo gas at the time so check back here for the link 👍

After switching away from BG on Monday they emailed me today offering a 33% discount on gas and electricity if I cancel the switch. The gas price offered is good but the electricity price isn't competitive and doesn't include the coming increase.

There's a useful article in today's Irish Times that mentions an online tool developed by the Insight (Research) Centre that can look at the log file from your smart meter containing your electricity usage per 30min interval since whenever. This log needs to be dumped out by you from the esbnetworks portal, and then Insight recommend the best electricity plan for you 😁

    Explanation from Insight Centre: https://www.insight-centre.org/switching-energy-provider-prof-alan-smeaton-has-a-tool-for-you/

    Link to the tool: http://tinyurl.com/4tjcwnea

You will need to have registered for an account with ESBnetworks and enter your MRPN:

https://myaccount.esbnetworks.ie/ and then go to My Energy Consumption

I have PV panels and export a fair bit to the grid. I really only consume in the winter months. Hence, I only consume ~800kWh per year. The report takes into account current published price plans (incl announced price hikes!), your usage pattern, AND your export pattern. Nice one 😀
I'll be taking a close look at this when I get to the end of Energia contract!!

There are already 2 of these available for a few years & they work very well.

    Energypal.ie & Kilowatt.ie

Do the comparison sites show 'private' plans like BWG yet? Last time I checked 6 months ago they didn't so if not definitely worth your while checking manually if it's good for your usage.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

No, but with EnergyPal you can enter a custom plan like the BWG smart plan & see how it compares to others

I’m moving house in 3 months and I’m just out of contract, anyone know if you can usually just “swap” houses mid contract or should I just put up with 3 months of bad rates

Most of them allow you to switch property/MPRN on the account and keep the existing contract conditions but double check directly with your chosen supplier before you sign up.

Not sure if this is the right thread but got a letter in the door from ESB networks about them updating my meter to a smart meter. Now I had the option to keep my old non smart meter the last time I got the letter from them now there doesn't seem to be that option. Anyone else get that letter in the last week or two?

You can refuse it if you want to - just make sure they cant access your meter if your not around.

I have initiated the switch to Electric Ireland (EI) from Energia this morning on the 30% discount Dual Fuel (smart meter). Both contracts expired yesterday, and I expect the usual call from Energia with a counter offer. But I cannot see them offering anything competitive, especially given they have increased their electric standing charge, and it is more expensive than EI .

I know EI could put an increase in on electricity in a few months, but at least the 30% discount will help. I have an EV so I want to keep the night rate as low as possible, and EIs rates are now cheaper than what I had with Energia.

    Day : 25.92c
    Peak: 27.65c
    Night: 13.62c
Gas : 8.15c, this will be reduced by 4% from Nov 1

    Standing Charges:

    Electricity : 250.77
    GAS : 155.96

Energia won’t match it or beat it, those days appear to be over

    That seems very strange

I thought the whole move was away from estimated readings , can they do this

Can you not submit meter readings

Is yuno to be avoided .im considering them ATM ?

It's up to you. You can ignore what their website says and the experience of people who've dealt with them if you're happy paying them in advance every month based on estimated future use.

16% of the reviews are 1 star. If you click on just them, plenty of people are having nightmares with them.

I personally would see those 1 star reviews as a good indication of the service you get if something goes wrong.

seems SSE did not charge me early term fee on the final gas bill and reversed the above error.

Now I have about 198 euro credit with my SSE account I need to contact them about.

I might wait a few weeks as I may be due CEG payments too for the interim period.

Anyone know how that may work , should they pass on the energy payment credits or does the new supplier ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,281 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

it’s shocking, click on the 1 star reviews and you will see people getting crazy high bills every other month with no help from customer services

Yuno is a sub brand of Pre-Pay Power who are a predatory energy company IMO.

Take that was you will for how your experience with Yuno could fare.

Yes you can absolutely opt out of a smart meter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 884 ✭✭✭amdaley28

Can I ask why someone would opt out of getting a smart meter ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭John arse

The rates initially were much more expensive although they seem to be reaching parity these days.I noticed Energia's recent increase targeted smart plans too which would be a concern for me.Personally I have a D/N meter which for someone with an EV and heat pump with underfloor heating suits me perfectly. No sign of D/N plans demise either as some had suggested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 479 ✭✭Lester_Burnham

No reason. There was a time when smart plans were poor value but you didn't have to opt in to them anyway. The convenience of accurate readings is great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭John arse

I'm currently out of contract with Energia - haven't got the usual offer call, don't think they have much to offer anyway?🤔

Just rang and opted out had to go through an AI operator who asks is this about scheduling your smart meter I just said no to get through to a human. And she took my MPRN and will send me out a confirmation email which I will I attached to the door of the enclosure if the Circet contractor goes near it.

I've no interest in smart plans and I input my readings into the the suppliers website to keep my billing accurate.
