It's working out well for me too, slightly cheaper than if I was on a standard 24 hour rate. I know it isn't of benefit to everyone but as you said, some of the scare stories that crop up here from time to time are a bit OTT imo.

Too lazy to back up your own point. Fair enough.

You commented on my meter last time too. The status of my meter is utterly irrelevant. Bizarre behavior.

    edit: you didn't "ask"

Whats the source for the "massive estimated bills" and level pay

I dont see level pay mentioned in t+c for 1 yr discount electricity

I certainly wont be signing up for massive estimated bills

The only mention of estimates is an initial payment "based on consumption info provided" followed by an adjusted first bill

So either them or you is telling porkies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,797 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

There were several posts earlier in the thread when Yuno launched from people who were getting very large estimated bills. I don't know if this has changed but it certainly was something they were doing and it's put me off risking a switch to them as I would be significantly below the average bill amounts.

Nobody is lying. See "how is Yuno Energy different?" In the link below.

With Yuno they predict your usage for the next month. You prepay that amount. That's the estimate.

In the event they overestimate your usage and you overpay, you don't automatically get a refund. It's just credit in your account.

There are annecdotes online of people getting a massive random bill. They dont get a refund, it's effectively level pay for them.

There's no lies, just a misunderstanding

Personally, I'd avoid them unless the savings are very large.

Reading doesn't appear to be a strength of yours.

You were given a link to one star Trustpilot reviews which was a litany of horror stories and you thought the reviews were good. You also don't appear to have grasped that paying in advance requires that bills are estimated. And a cursory Google search would provide accounts of people who paid wildly overestimated bills and weren't refunded. Not to mention accounts on this thread.

But you accuse the poster helping you of lying.

Who to believe the anecdotes or what they state

    I have read very carefully

The first bill is estimated based on "consumption figures provided"

No mention of subsequent bills being estimated

Why would they be estimating all the bills that seems ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,238 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

If you like the look of yuno then sign up with them and see how it goes, friend of mine uses them and says they are great 🤷

Don't think i accused anyone of lying all I am reading here is anecdotes from 3 posters

If anyone has information that the bills are massively overestimated id like to see it

"New customers are required to make an initial payment, based on the annual consumption information they provide, towards their first month of energy usage. Any difference between their actual usage and this payment will be reflected on their next bill."

From the FAQ i link you, Q3 "How does Advanced Payment Work" - "Each month, you pay for your electricity before you use it based on a usage Prediction (kWh). "

Every bill is an estimate because you prepay. Every bill is "based on a usage Prediction". If you think it's "ridiculous", then don't do it.

They do it because it's better for them. Harder for a customer to be in arrears.

I've no idea why you're so confrontational, this is bargain alerts….

Have you any link that says the bills are prepaid ?

Yuno states the first bill is prepaid based on consumption figures provided

After that it should revert to the variable rate in the plan with actual readings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

"Each month, you pay for your electricity before you use it" - which bit isn't clear? It's the definition of prepayment.

I've already linked it to you and quoted it.

    This is Yunos USP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 397 ✭✭thoneaseessi

Well it turns out you're right

Yuno is a bunch of lying mothafu**ers

Each month is prepaid and the first month is based on national average , no mention in t+cs

The t+c s state it's based on usage info provided

    Avoid and I Will

typical 1 star review for yuno

Have found Yuno energy billing so confusing, leaving then this month for another provider who I know will provide accurate accounting and billing. Already as soon as I have made the move to change the contract, our final bill seems to have skyrocketed. Lasted the year with them and gave up trying to decipher the bills, the advance paying us very confusing and so difficult to work out if it is accurate or not.

So Yuno is no go? They are the cheapest for me with the e290 cashback. They need a smart meter but I want a non-smart plan. They need a smart meter in every case.

Hi Guys, How do EI pay the mircogeneration payment. I’m with BG and they do it every two months?

There is no logical reason to not get a Smart meter. Even with a Smart meter, you do not have to go on a Smart tariff. You choose!

But the benefits of getting a Smart meter are:

    1. You can see a detailed history of your usage per 30min time chunk (via esbnetworks website) across however long you've have a Smart meter
    2. You need one if you ever want to go on any Smart plan

I had one other huge benefit - my recorded consumption went way down compared to the old meter. Must have been a calibration error with my old meter.

I'm not sure if you need it if you have solar panels (and hence export to the grid).

EI is the same, it's paid on each bill. It was 21c, but now reduced to 19.5c/kwh

What rate will I be paid?

Electric Ireland’s current Microgen Export rate is 19.5c per kWh. This rate is variable and subject to change. We estimate that customer export payments will range between €50-€300 per year, depending on the size and type of your microgeneration system (a typical installation of 10 panels would be about €150 per year).

How do people get someone else in the house to take up a new customer offer? Do you have to let your current contract expire and setup under the new name thr next day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭Looptheloop30

Ran the new Energia rates on my latest bill….. jumped by roughly €28 so imagine it will be more significant per bill as we go into the colder darker months. The 50 bob hit to move to EI or BWG deal is a no brainer and pays for itself in no time. Only moved to Energia in June, found their dashboard and info with smart plan very helpful and user friendly. Not enough to pay through the nose for keeping the lights on though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

What i have posted is neither ignorant nor "tin foil hat antics".

Most people don't care what their meter is.a tiny handful of people object to the concept of smart meters. I've no idea why. They are the minority.

Signed up to bwg and at end said 12 month contract and min 12 month contract

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 397 ✭✭thoneaseessi

Ive got my head around the system a bit , forecast and prediction , so may eventually consider them

T+Cs differ from the faq on the calculation of the first estimated payment. Chat told me the faq is correct which isn't great like

Id need a better handle on these estimates before id consider them

Also there's a load of clauses in the t+c s that need careful study

It reads like it's setup to trigger higher charges for the unsuspecting customer

I did exactly that and moved to EI, like yourself I used their dashboard quite a lot, EI have their own app and it's also very good, the only data missing from theirs is your export, however I can find that info on esbnetworks site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 414 ✭✭Lester_Burnham

There's a thread on Reddit where a BG switcher was charged the exit fee in their final bill (must have jumped immediately last Friday). He called them and they said it was an error and fixed it. They also said it had been applied "in error" to a number of accounts. So check your final bills.

Oof, that's their 2nd increase this year, April being the first.

EI have the dominant market share & will only increase that again this winter.
