No, the open rear slot should be enough 🙂.

    Hi Folks

Have a zegmma H7s. When I try to download epg I get an error "crossEPG error timeout for Tuner lock" I have tried to find info on this message but still don't know how to get around it.

All Irish channels have a full weeks epc but all uk fta channels only have what's on now for the most part.

    Image version is 6.4.010

    Any help would be great.

    John

    Latest images are on 6.7

What are you using to get your EPG.

I use Opentv EPG downloader and have it downloaded to usb or hdd.

    I'm using CrossEPG.

Should I update the image version? Will it reset everything to factory settings?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,163 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Stop using CrossEpg and try using Opentv.

Every now and again i will updated image and it will save settings and restore them when wizard asks you.

    |Change epg to Opentv

Thanks but where is the option to download? Also I discovered that as I'm only using one satellite cable to the box, so I can actually download epg no problem when using the bottom port, however I have no picture using that port, but when I plug the coax into the top one picture comes back. But I can't download epgs.

This is what you do. As you only have one cable you can only use 1 tuner and when you go to download epg it uses that tuner and screen goes blank. When you swop to second slot that becomes the tuner and hence you get picture. Crossepg is no good so use OpenTvepg downloader BUT you have to disable Tuner B. So go menu setup tuners & scanning, then tuner setup , select tuner B and toggle so it says disable and green to save. Make sure it does not have cable connected. Now make sure Tuner A is configured with cable as Simple , single, 28e. green. exit

Now menu setup epg settings and make sure epg location is media/hdd green. Now menu onscreen may show opentvepgdownlaoder but as you have crossepg that may be at bottom just arrow down to page 2 and it should be there. Open it enable say yes, provider will say astra 28.2, schedule scan toggle so it says custom, now time of day say 1.00am, leave rest as press OK yes yes yes, over page yes no green. exit, now for epg as a one off press blue go to openEPG forced download and press oK screen will go blank and it takes a few minutes, then goes back to prog you were on. Bingo.

NB you want it downloading when no one is watching but blue button is a backup.

Yes only 1 cable here also and daily update done for 7 days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Iceman99

Wow thanks for all the info, I will dig in!

CrossEPG is what you call " depracated" , i.e. its no longer supported and doesnt work in the major enigma2 OS anymore.

Instead , your EPG downloaders are built into the system , and much easier to setup anyways.

That worked a treat. It also explained when I got the dish installed it used to go blank every so often until I put the coax in the top port. I assume this was when it was trying to run the epg update. The opentvepg works great.

    Thanks very much 😊

The box works better with 2 feeds and if you have only one cable from dish you could get a unicable lnb and at the box end use a splitter to have 2 feeds, you just tell each tuner which Single Cable Router ( SCR) on the unicable to use. You can have an awful lot of boxes working on a one feed unicable.

But you have to access dish etc

    Hello all

When a recording starts, 1 other channel becomes inoperable (normally RTE 1)

Appreciate any assistance in how to correct this.

I have >80% space on hard disk and there are no recording clashes , its set for 1 recording only.

I have n't re-scanned channels since the original installation and set-up

    Txs

Because Soarview split the channels over two frequencies, when recording from one group of channels you will not be able to access the other.
so if you are recording RTÉ1, TG4, VM1, VM2, RTÉ News or Oireachtais Tv you cant access the others.

With the right USB tuner you can record the other frequency too, various USB2.0 DAB FM DVB-T RTL2832U

Getting two similar USB tuners working is messy as they share drivers, so it's way easier to have one USB tuner and an onboard tuner.

IMHO RTE and TG4 should be on one frequency and the commercial stations on the other.

Not sure if this is also what Capt'n Midnight is also suggesting -

I found the easiest thing was to also tune in saorview on the tv itself then you have access to the other channels when recording on the zgemma

Agreed let the Zgemma record and view other on tuner on tv as my feed is split for that reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 dublin7d7

Thanks all. I have a Samsung TV with a pile of Rakuten crap pre-loaded.

When I went to do a manual re-tune, the option was greyed out.

I think my installer has both satellite and Saorview aerials plugged in Zgemma.

From what your suggesting, it sounds like I need to plug the Saorview directly into the TV and go retune ?

Of flick over to RTE player and watch live TV from there if RTE drops out..

I got one of these off ebay, so now have 3 saorview tuners. Means I can record and watch / record all saorview channels at same time Sony DVB-T Tuner For Play Tv Playstation PS3 SCEH-0036 With USB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 562 ✭✭✭cathy427

Ya so you need to have a saorview cable plugged into both the tv and the zgemma.

So you will just need a little splitter on the incoming saorview cable and then run two cables from the splitter. On to the tv and one to the zgemma.

    It's very simple.

Depending on signal strength might need a powered splitter but still very simple.

Have a look at the Splitters and cables on freetv .ie or if you have an old style local type shop near you they will tell you what you need ( the likes of currys are crazy overpriced for these bits and the staff will likely have no clue!)

    Hello.

Long time reader of this thread but lost my account way back when there was a data breach and only signed back up now.

    I have a zgemma h7s. Using openvix and on 6 .6.13

Tried to upgrade to 6.7. Thought I clicked all the correct steps but

The box is now displaying "boot" .

I left it for few hours and no change.

I plugged it out and left for 2 hours and no change when pluggedback in.

Anyone come across this or any ideas what I can do to get the box working?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,942 ✭✭✭swoofer

buuger, say how you were updating, was it by usb or online. I know this is tricky but can you say the version of 6.7 its goes from 6.7.001 to 6.7.019. And do you have any images in the other slots.

I have seen this happen before

is it the box with ssd sticking out at rear?

Sorry replied too soon. I am taking comfort from fact that you have seen this before! 😀

I had read not to go for very latest so I think I went for 6.7.015 (could have been 6.7.016)

Yes. I have the original image in slot 1

and the image I was using in slot 3

And I tried to add this one to slot 2.

Yes, ssd sticking out the rear.

There are a few things you can try but try this first :

    1. Box powered off at rear, press power button on remote and keep it pressed and pointed at box, get close as possible, then press power at rear and keep holding power on remote. Wait and wait boot should appear wait a few more seconds then release, it may boot into slot 1.

Try that and report back, take out any usb's from box before etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Patk1984

    Thanks for that.

Tried that a few times but no luck.

In terms of the "wait and wait" - I was only waiting about 4 or 5 seconds before boot appeared

That enough. This next method always works but you have to go slow and I have used it very infrequently but knew what I was doing.!(I think) You are going to use recovery mode and that restores the box to a virgin state but will flash Vix to slot one. Now its quite possible it will detect a backup and ask you to restore settings but as you have a fault say NO to any restore options. You have yo use the recovery file titled emmc zip and use this version 6.7.010 as I have that in the zgemma and it works.

By flashing you build the image from scratch and if you are happy with that just go ahead, if not I'll say a bit more.

At the end you will have one slot and vix with default skin, should be simple 1080. The other 3 slots will be blank.

NB dont use the file that says multi, EMMC is bigger use that as your guide.

NB2 what may happen here is usb may not be recognised so make sure its fat 32 and newly formatted. And low capacity.

I know the above is a pain but should it work then its worth it.

At the end its important you store epg either on HDD or usb.

    Thank you.

Sounds like its my only option so will give it a go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Patk1984

    Back to you again.

I have tried two USB's and the box isn't recognizing either of them. It just stays on boot

I tried with zipped and unzipped - which should I be using?

Also is the emmc recovery file the only one that I need ?

I had to move away. Not recognising the usb is one drawback when fixing problem . When attempting to flash are you holding the power button under the card flap. Yes only Emmc and unzipped. I have a lot of usb’s and cruzer is good. 4gb is best but I have used larger. Also integral. Make sure you only have the image files on usb.

This is how you flash power off at rear, put in usb use a different slot this time , the open cover and see a small plastic button up to left . You press and hold that and then push in white at rear, keep holding until flash appears.
