I'd say you're safe enough waiting for the final Marooned 😉

3 of the 4 U14A quarter finals tonight and ended in draws. That must be a first. The 4th ended in a single point victory for Rower Inistioge. Very even grade at that level, anybody could win it.

Interesting games on this weekend. Shamrocks are the only clear cut favourite at senior. I think Tullaroan might take revenge for last year on the Bridge. Lisdowney and Clara could be closer than most think but you'd have to think Lisdowney are heading back intermediate on all evidence so far. Graigue BC might shock Dicksboro given all their injuries. Tullogher, Mooncoin, Fenians, and Freshford likely to come through the Intermediate first round.

The participating clubs should refuse. That is scandalous if BNG have fixed them for 10.30 in the morning

Last year they had a fully fit squad for most of the year. This year cian ó Donoghue and Donnchadh ó Connor are abroad and wally and Marty Murphy and others carrying knocks.

Most clubs have injuries in fairness. Even dicksboro with their numbers just can't cope missing so many quality players.

Dicksboro vs O'Loughlins is one semi

For the other semi, Danesfort are awaiting the winner of the Village and Comer who drew on Wed night. (replay this coming Tuesday night). Comer were very impressive the way they clawed their way back into the game the other night after being 5 or 6 points down in the second half.

Its still hard to talk about hurling the the tragedy that took place at the start of the week. The crowd at the funeral was like nothing seen for a long long time. He was a club stalwart who always gave his all and things were starting to look up for kilmacow after a few good underage teams and they had picked up a few big wins this year against paulstown and graig but its going to be very hard on this club and the players to pick up the pieces. God help his family and friends but especially his fiancee and two little girls. We do on here giving out about small yokes but this certainly puts things into perspective. He would of played with alot of lads, as a mark if respect glenmore and vegas won't be using the number 6 Jersey this wknd and will instead wear the number 30.it will be hard for some lads to hurl this wknd so my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.

Onto the matches its a pity the weather might be a bit crap but comer for the first time in a long time will be able to play with no fear of relegation hanging over them. Having michael brennan back will be a big help and himself and jack buggy along with mcmahon will surely be called into the county next month. Shamrocks are shamrocks and ronan corcoran and brian have being two huge additions, both excellent club hurlers and mullen will probably come on when things open up. Tj will also be back. Its the back up crew they have like killian and darragh corcoran, evan shefflin and niall shortall that can really hurt you. Darragh is a bit dangly running but if he could try improve on this he would be worth another look,he will be getting the best of coaching from herity and henry, killian could also be worth a look.

Clara rested a few the last day but kenny should be back another lad who is going well. Martin o connell mightn't make it but in patches paul cody has being good along with the two glynns. Clara were excellent against ttown and very unlucky in a few games. Some nice young lads coming boyle and barcoe. Still getting great milage out of some of their senior players. Lisdowney were hoping to be be getting a few lads backs but kevin sweeney a big loss. Lisdowney wont fear clara brian kavanagh is a good foward. Boro would want to be careful because ballycallan like clara have being unlucky..its well documented the amount of injuries and immigration in the boro but after all their underage success over all the years its not doing them much good. Tommy ronan and sean ryan are two worth a look in the county. Big flynn full foward is a real handfull for ballycallan.

Bridge have kevin blanchfield home for a few weeks and he was good the other day. Liam is having a good year and tullaron probably have a decision to make weather to put padraig back at 3 and georoid dunne and 6 to try shore up the large number of goals conceded. Paul buggys shot stopping is a huge loss this year.holland has a huge bang of a ball but is a long way behind buggy when it comes to shot stopping. Buggy is also a huge loss for tullaron. Dylan Simpson having another good year.

After going to a good few matches the last few weeks while theres no superstars standing out theres some good hurlers in kk. Alot of supporters arent excited with dereks re appointment and his two sidekicks because he hasnt done much to deserve another two years, threw away two semi finals and also lost 2 league finals. Most people ive met at matches and the crowds have being good wanted to at least see peter and michael rice replaced and someone with credionals brought in. Brian dowling, tom mullally, david herity have being far more successful than the lads going into their 3rd year and are just 3 lads off the top of my head who i can think of.its hard to believe this day and age there's not a proper goal keeping coach and someone who can actually do drills and come up with gameplans. The only chance is maybe eddie and niall will be left to work with the squad. I didnt hear of any high performance coach being ratified so probably going with the cheap and cheerfull again. The killing part is this team had the winnings of two semi finals. This just shows how weak the county board is. Ill always support kk but get rewarded with another two years after failing the last 2 big tests is very poor. The only hope is eddie and niall corcoran are let work with the team and entice a few lads in. Billy drennan confidence is completely gone he hasnt even done it for his junior club in a few years. After the club the county need to hold trials and get 30 players from the 3 grades and hopefully get a few lads from this.

Don't know much about him but Craig Phelan of Slieverue is a player racking up massive scores this year. Might be a player worth taking a look and persisting with.

I agree with you about the missing players but its the system that they were playing compared to last year is what i was getting at .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Village87

I was also at the first match Tullogher/Rosbercon v Mooncoin and T/R were very good that night, they were the 2 teams that were talked up to beat the Village but both have been very poor since, both have had injures and suspensions since, all that unsettles line ups, systems etc, both could be gone out of it by tomorrow evening, Mooncoin seem to lack a bit of fire power while T/R young players seem way off the pace this year. Freshford and Saint Martins is a hard one to call, that could go anyway also. Freshford seem to struggle with fitness, lot of there forwards especially are big men, ill give slight nudge to Freshford. We are playing Danesfort in the League final, great match for us as we can give a few players returning from injury game time and avoid the dirty weather this weekend for championship.

How are freshford so poor this year? Won the all ireland and usually that momentum carries over to the club championship. Been well beaten by the fenians carrickshock and the rower.

Wasn't there some fall out up there the year they got relegated?

    Halft time

    Fenians 0-08 v B&W 0-06

So far a game lacking in a bit of quality, but has shown some good intensity. Playing conditions are difficult, with it being slippery underfoot and a stiff breeze favouring the Skeough men for the first.

The game has been scrappy so far, with the majority of scores coming from placed balls. Both defences have been top, with Nipper Lennon cleaning up a lot of ball in the sweeper position for B&W’s. Little in the way of scoring chances from play, and both sides will want more from their forwards in the second half.

Fenians will be the happier team at half time, obviously in the lead and having created more chances. Conor Tobin in centre forward has been impressive from play, scoring 2 points (I think) and also since he took over free taking duties. Willy Brennan has got on a good amount of possession in midfield but would want to make better use of it. John Henderson and Rory Garrett in defence have also played well.

For the B&W men, as mentioned Nipper Lennon has been class but sometimes takes too much time in possession. Aaron Foley is a great target man in forwards, a real man mountain. Martin Kelly looks dangerous too.

    Second half to come

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,860 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Blacks and Whites win with the last 9 scores, 0-17 to 1-11.

    Mooncoin 6-23 The Rower 1-15.

What has happened the Rower/Inistioge. That is terrible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

    Full time

    Fenians 1-11 v B&W 0-17

What a second half from the Skeough men! A fast start for Fenians in the second half looked like it was going to be lights out for B&W. Under 10 minutes into the second half Fenians were 7 points ahead after a long ball in slipped through O Grady’s grasp in the B&W goal and all the way to the net. Fenians popped over another couple of quick points and they looked to have all the momentum.

Then B&W pulled themselves off the floor. Sam Byrne, who was well shackled in the first half threw himself into the game. Aaron Foley continued his dominance in the air. Combined with the introduction of Jason and Jamie Byrne into the forwards, B&W started to look dangerous. Ian Foley hit 2 massive points from frees over 100m out. And Paul Murphy became a dominating force in midfield. B&W defence as a whole looked impressive.

Fenians will be disappointed because they had themselves in a great position and the game within their grasp. A few missed chances in midfield and forwards could have changed things. But they can have no complaints given their second half performance. Tobin, who was good in the first half, faded out. Garrett was out of the game for the 2nd half.

B&W have this performance in them and are a real championship team it seems. This result will lift them and give them real confidence going into a quarter final. But they have to tidy up their discipline and need that performance from the last 20 minutes throughout. Because if they perform like they did during the 1st half, the remaining teams will put a game out of distance.

Didn’t see the game, but massive win for Mooncoin (6-23) v The Rower Inistoige (1-15). Had Mooncoin as favourites, but didn’t see that result coming. Would love to hear from anyone at the game.

Mooncoin had 3-4 on the board before The Rower got off the mark, game over in first quarter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Were the rower caught on the hop or did they start missing a few first choice backs or anything ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,860 ✭✭✭Speak Now

No idea if they were missing players just from watching it on Clubber Adam Croke ran riot and they couldn't get to grips with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Great stuff by blacks and whites. They'll be over the moon with that result. Amazing considering the hammerings they got in the league..

Mooncoin absolutely cut through the rower backs in the first half without a hand laid on them. Off the ball movement, accurate passing and deadly finishing. Adam croke got about 3-3 from play!! Ciarán quilty, Paul henneberry, Liam hogan all excellent.

Just didn't happen for the rower. No physicality or aggression in the backs. Eoin ó Brien tried awful hard and eoin Lyng did OK too.

Fair play to B&W, really couldn't see anything else for them this year bar relegation. Real dogs when it comes done to a battle. Fenians surely be kicking themselves, conceded last 9 scores?

Boro were a good bit better than Graigue BC who were very disappointing. GBC very one dimensional and P Moylan had Flynn held at his ease. Lisdowney will fancy themselves to stay up based on Graigues performance today and their own promising display against Clara.

very happy with the Boro result today, we were under a bit of pressure when reduced to fourteen men but rode the storm coped well with at least three late 65’s and saw out the game.

Exciting match between Clara and Lisdowney today. Thought it was game over when Clara led by 7 at ht playing against the strong wind but Lisdowney fought well and could have sneaked it at the death. Ref let a go on both sides

Shamrocks made a statement with their trouncing of Comer. 10 different scorers from play for Shamrocks, very good movement. Left early but think Eoin Cody scored 3 pts but set up a goal with a one handed flick, another pass of his should have ended with goal, he also contributed to other scores. Don't know if it was the Henry, Herity or Eoin Cody influence but he played more as a teamplayer.

Adrian Mullen looked unfit as a sub. Hope he gets back to full fitness but can't be picked on recent performances. TJ wasn't influential today.

If you were to look negatives about Ballyhale, it would be that they only scored 1 goal.

Henry and Herity could be a future mgmt team. Hope Eoin Cody continues to make good use of ball

Tullaroan should be favourites against the Bridge tomorrow, despite missing Tommy Walsh, based on performances to date. Well beaten by Glenmore and Ballyhale, lucky to draw with Boro and beating a depleted OLG despite not scoring from play for 45 minutes, Bridge look to have gone a bit backwards this year. The return of Kevin Blanch will give Bridge hope but needs his brothers Liam and David to step up. Mossy has had his best 12 months, Dylan Simpson has been good and Shane Walsh can be a game changer. Unless Liam Blanch has a big performance, Tullaroan should prevail

Two games left in intermediate today:

St. Martins v St. Lachtains, 12pm

Fancy SM in this one. Despite SL having classier players, I think SM’s group games will have them prepared for what lies ahead today. SM put in reasonable showings for decent periods in all most group games, and seem to have a bit of steel about them in their defense. I think results in this first round will show the difference in quality between the two groups at this level. Whereas anytime I’ve watched SL this year, they’ve been too erratic. Few moments of brilliance overshadowed by a general malaise in their performances. If their big guns step up, they should have too much for SM. But there’s been little evidence of that so far this year. SM by a score

    Tullogher Rosbercon v Carrickshock, 4pm

Going to have to go with TR in this one, despite the absence of Wally for the game. Tullogher are just too strong strong all around the park, and have the winning of the key match ups. Tullogher have the players to outmatch and keep Power, Rice, O Neill and Franks quiet. Carrickshock have improved this year, and the development of young Franks in corner forward has been impressive. But they’re still unfortunately short of the quality to challenge. TR by 7

Just about the underage games running out of daylight. I’m no genius but I’m able to look up met Eireanns 10 day forecast it’s fairly accurate on weather conditions and good on predicted times for sunrise and sunset. The games should have been put back to 6 o’clock it’s that simple

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

St martins lachtaíns could go anyway. Martins are very young, with the experience of Mulhall Cody and Kinsella. If lachtains turn it on as you say they have the players to do damage. Any team with Shane Donnelly, Liam Hickey, Cathal ó Leary and darragh Maher in the forwards should be doing better.

Don't see tullogher winning by that much. Carrickshock half forward line of power, dwyer and rice v tullogher half back line of lár Murphy, Hartley and mooney will be a key battle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

On SM and SL, Mulhall got a straight red at the end of the last game and I would imagine is out today. I’ve been more impressed with SM’s ability to keep games close at stages. SL have been a disappointment and I really expected more from them. I had them down to make a shield final this year. Apart from a strong final 40 minute performance against YI, they’ve looked off the pace. But if things click, they really do have the players to upset the bigger teams, apart from The Village.

On the TR and Carrickshock game, Carrickshock to me are just a bad match up for TR. All TR’s strengths are great than Carrickshocks and I think their ball movement and power will be too much. 7 points is a lot in championship hurling I know, but I struggle to see where Carrickshock will get scores from play against this TR team. Whereas I struggle to see how Carrickshock will contain the TR 8-15. Hopefully, I stand to be corrected and we see a great close game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Village87

I agree I expect Carrickshock to win this one. Rice, Eanna Martin, John Power, John Cahill, Niall Tennyson, Jamie Power, can't beat experience come championship and Tullogher without Walsh are very vulnerable. Freshford and St Martins will be very intense, both teams are not bad. Could go anyway, elements will play there part too

Did mulhall get sent off for hitting his own man the last day?pulled across sean hunt?

Clara v lisdowney was a really enjoyable match with some absolute shocking refereeing on both sides it must be said but definitely rode clara more. If the last man back fouls the attacker if its a penalty is it not a red? Well he gave a penalty but no card. Clara were very poor for most of the second half their big players like paul cody was very very poor. Lisdowney fought for their lives. Thought tallis was good and after going to freshford and if i was a backing man id be putting my fiver on lisdowney.apart from the last 5 or 7 minutes gbc were poor.ballyhale were good against an absolutey woeful comer side. Intrestingly richie reid is on the wing and corcoran at 6 and eoin cody is playing out the field more which i couldnt understand kk werent doing.

Henry, sean kelly, richie o neill and tom hunt to be ratified as u20 coach monday. No word on the u17 or fennellys role altho there was talk of pat hoban for the u17

No idea what happened with the Mulhall incident. Only saw it was a straight red

Mulhall was sent on to go in full forward and Sean hunt was to go into the corner. Hunt and Mulhall had a ‘disagreement’ over this positional change , there and then.
