ye I was at the game a good rattle and Callan might have been closer but missed a penalty and about six frees and the Boro keeper had a great game. The Boro were probably that bit better, a few mistletoe Callan in for two soft goals.

I watched the 2 intermediate games on Clubber, Gowran looked very good. Freshford management have a lot to answer for, playing so many defenders, played into Gowran hands .
Dunnamaggin out worked Tullogher who will be disappointed with there performance, Tullogher forwards had no interest in a battle. Dunnamaggin completely dominated there forwards. I think all the Tullogher scores from play came from Hennessy, Lyng, Sullivan and Hartley who were midfielders and backs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Sullivan was centre forward and got 3 points. Andrew Murphy other tullogher forward who scored with 2. Very hard hitting game. Dunnamaggin defended well.

Anyone know what age eoin Kearney is? A fine hurler. Couldn't see them beating the village though.

Good win for young irelands. Freshford must be awful disappointed with how this year has went.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

Kearney must be near 30 now, I’d say he’s about 29. Think he was minor age grade in 2014 or 2015.

I think while Freshford will be disappointed with the year, they’ve secured a primary target of staying up. I doubt any team started the year overly confident of winning with The Village in the grade. They reached a quarter final and have something to build on next year. I’d say they would’ve take that at the start of the year

I thought Sullivan did a lot of hurling midfield, anyway a limp exit from championship. Marty Murphy doesn't look fit

Have to agree Tullogher forwards no fight in them what so ever gave the puck outs to Dunnamaggin on numerous times and good delivery into their forwards resulted in frees for Dunnamagin think they got 9pts from this Overall Dunammagin had the better hurlers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

I take your point about freshford securing their status but after the momentum of the all ireland win they would have hoped to win more games. It's only 4 years ago they were in an intermidiate final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

Absolutely, I agree. From my point of view, the year was a disappointment but not a disaster. Most of those lads are young enough to improve and move forward next year. I think they’ll be better next year, with this years results/performances standing to them. They’ll get some good prep in the league too, up against some senior sides

Ballyragget will fancy themselves against the parishes of windgap and callan who havent being going as well as previous years. Maybe its trying to time their run but a couple of injuries and the chap who has flying home for matches whos name escapes me isnt doing that as far as i know. Talking to a few stalwarts of the club its a decision they regret now but what did they expect? Two members of the same family sent off against conahy provoked verbals from a family member . There has also being trouble at camogie matches. This could very easily end up with someone getting injures. Many people in the club are afraid to go against this individual who makes up his own rules. O loughlin gaels by all accounts are the team to beat at junior level because they have a settled senior team so wont be pulling from their junior team as much as previous years. Junior is more open than previous years. Young irelands had a easy enough win over a freshford team who has dissapointed this year. I expected more momentum after winning junior all ireland. Liam hickey and james maher ɓig losses alright. Paddy langton very good as you woukd expect àt this level. He will probably get a call in but the lack of pace would be a concern. Like most good teams their half back line was very good. Dunnamaggin are a good side and feel they have underachied the last few years. Denis walsh, joe fitz and andy hickey all have u2o all irelands in their back pockets. Michael cody also a big help. Tullogher havent being goin as well and although wally came on the couple of lads traveling really hurt their attack. It feels like its now or never for this mooncoin team, tallis prevented them from reaching last years final while they reached the previous years final.paul heneberry one of the best 6 in the county is back and adam croke is a very good club corner foward. Danesfort are solid at the back especially the half back line but up front missing 3 of last years fowards for different reasons could sway this in the coins favour. Best of luck to henry who has put together a strong backroom team, some might say its stronger than the senior setup with the goalkeeping coach actually a goal keeper. Thomastown have excellent time for sean kelly who will no doubt do better sessions than peter o donovans u12 drills. A high profile underage management team has being boxing the county board in the face for over 10 years so its about time they done this and this doesn't cover up the skullduggery of reappointing poor management teams or appointing people not up to scratch or last years farce before the end of the meeting reappointing both underage management teams before immediately finishing the meeting. No minor management team yet or mick fennelly replacement. Caught a bit of mick fennelly on the radio and he was saying a area for who ever replaces him what he likes to see apart from it being a permanent position someone actually to check are targets being met. He was in the position a nunber of years and not once did anyone come to see was this or that done. While yes its good things are starting to slowly happen it must be remembered most top counties have the likes of a mick fennelly working full time. They have high profile or successful underage coaches. Ben o connor was with cork, cummins tipp, joxer waterford minors. One time teams followed kk blueprint but kk are so far behind its no wonder we have won nothing for so long. The dump inside is a disgrace and on par with one of the worst training centers in the country. I hope fennelly didnt leave because of the county board stubbornness to release funds but it certainly wouldn't suprise anyone

That was exactly the reason Fennelly left.

It was turning into a full time role but getting paid part time and like ‘pulling teeth‘ I heard to get money from the county board for the direction he wanted to go in with academies.

You cannot have a professional underage set up unless you’re willing to spend big.

I’m saying it time and time again, the CB is way behind. They worry too much about finances without actually doing anything to improve the financial structures, they are not at all progressive. When we seem to be getting places slowly now would be the time to announce a 5 year plan for Dunmore to further boost the county at this stage. I would love to see a partnership of Phil Hogan and David Beirne take over the finances and running of this new project. Thirty years ago we were progressive constantly improving the park without going in to debt that worked well then but not now.

another bug bear of mine is the lack of shelter on our pitches around the county is shocking ,it’s not as if it never rains here. I know in Tipperary if there is no stand then they do get the games. The C B again should be helping the clubs in progressing this and looking for grants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Do you really need to keep having unnecessary pops at Donovan and Rice? It's embarrassing at this stage. They've both given more time and effort to Kilkenny hurling than anyone in here I'd wager. If you're going to keep throwing jabs at them then name your source for the criticism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 765 ✭✭✭bamayang

I have no issue with critiquing or criticising the county board, seems to be plenty of evidence of justification for it.
however, I think it’s a disgrace that people continually (on this forum) refer to the county’s training facility as “the dump”.
Show a bit of respect to the people who try and make KK hurling better.

Game over at this stage, but to be fair the Skeough men have put up a fight. They’ve been tight at the back as a result of dropping so deep, but The Village have been able to pick them off from distance. A soft enough goal from a breaking ball in behind the defence, coupled with 8 wides from Skeough gives a score line that isn’t reflective of their efforts.

The Village have been professional in their handling of the game so far, happy to take their points and wait for their opportunity. Whilst they haven’t looked incredibly impressive, you can tell they have a couple more gears to shift through if required.

Cian Kenny, Luke Scanlon and Sean Bergin impressive for The Village, while Jamie Ryan and Nipper Lennon have been impressive for the B&Ws

Bad year for Windgap, they are lucky there is no relegation in Junior for first teams. They are on a massive downward spiral. A lot going on under the surface seemingly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I think the location has a lot to do with the use of the name plus a smaller factor is it’s not the most glamorous of venues or as developed there are some lovely club grounds around the county

And when you compare our training facilities to what other counties have for along time now and colleges it is a bit of a dump

Like any development there’s plenty room for improvements loads of great people have done lots of great work to get it to this point but you have to call a spade a spade

Straight forward win for The Village, but Blacks and Whites can take a lot of heart from this game. Realistically they were never going to win, but they would have wanted a performance, which they got. The gulf in class was just too big to bridge.

As I mentioned above, The Village were professional in their approach and slowly killed the game off. They used the ball and space well, picking off points at will to kill the game and never really allow the B&Ws a sniff. Luke Scanlon was excellent, as was Cian Kenny, Sean Bergin and Guilfoyle off the bench. O Dwyer was very good as well and was always a threat.

Without sounding condescending to B&W, there were lots of positives from the game and they shouldn’t be overly disappointed. Jamie Ryan in corner back marshalled Ed Lahoff well. Nipper Lennon sweeping was excellent as usual and even threw a big hit in. Martin Kelly got through a lot of dog work and Ryan Murphy had his moments. Sam Byrne looked dangerous but unfortunately just didn’t have the support.

I have a soft spot for the likes of B&Ws. Smaller clubs punching above their weight and making big efforts. They work well with what they have. I look forward to watching them again next year

To be fair, the 'dump' is emblematic of the issues we have in the county for the last few years. Poor organisation and a half arsed job. When you compare it to other counties it's embarrassing.
A gym had to be built on years after it was finished, and there is a single toilet there. For a venue that holds county finals and big crowds, that's an utter disgrace.

Our county board took their eye off the ball when times were good, and our teams and facilities have fallen behind other counties. It doesn't sit well with people and that's why, apart from the obvious reason, you get people calling it 'the dump'.

Henry has assembled a strong backroom team. Brian hogan and sean kelly involved in winning county teams. Peter has had very limited success. Im hardly going to name my source but its very poor. Mickey comerford was s&c and head coach with no experience in coaching he would admit himself. That might be grand at club level but not at county. Nothing against the chap but the only reason a high profile s&c coach isnt involved is because they wont pay. Why is mick fennelly leaving?it Is absolutely no secret michael rice is goal keeping coach. The dump is years behind the likes of offally. Going to carlow to train in the winter. Bad playing surface. one toilet. It is a dump.

Poor year but to say they'd be near relegation if it was there is a stretch, Cloneen the very lucky ones that way.

Mooncoin will be very disappointed. Started well and looked far more dangerous up front. Some of their main players couldn't make the impact they would have hoped for. But slowly the fort half back line took over. 7 points from play between them. Daire ó Néill is big man and good hurler.. They rose their game after losing their best forward ireland wall. Good impact from the young subs too.

Fair play to ballyraggett. Massive win for them. Where do windgap go from here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭Sir Chaz

I'd say Windgap had to win it this year and with the way they threw big name coaches into the mix early on, I'd say they know that themselves. Other teams are improving while they are on the wain. Their AGM could be interesting given the apparent depth of feeling that's prevalent regarding their non natives, particularly with the trouble being caused this year and last.

Emeralds, Graignamanagh and Callan appear to be the coming teams there at Junior over next few years. One of the first 2 could potentially win it this year, and Callan have a lot of strong underage teams coming if they can bring them on.

Got called into work, so only caught glimpses. Any time I was watching Mooncoin seemed on top. Did Danesfort have big periods of dominance as well or what happened?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 759 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Even though mooncoin looked better in the first half danesfort had plenty wides so they were creating chances. Backs were excellent and came out with huge amount of ball. Adam croke so good up to now, had little impact.

Danesfort really dictated the game in the last 20 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Marrooned

I have to agree with everything that nippy said about the facilities, I cannot comment on Peter Donovan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,804 ✭✭✭Village87

Mooncoin as contenders finished 4th in the group and well bet in the quarter final . Scoring 17 points in Nowlan Park today won't win many matches. They seem to struggle on the big days
