RIP Luke - an outstanding hurler and person. It was a pleasure to watch him hurl for his club and county over the years. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Rip Luke. Awful for his family, club and parish. Makes hurling seem very unimportant in a way, but at the same time we know how important it was to luke and he was to kilmacow.

This can be discussed another day imo. As most of us here are passionate hurling follower's and we love our club hurling I can't even think about other topics than the situation in Kilmacow. That chap brought lots of joy to the people of Kilmacow, inspired many of Kilmacow underage and through tough times kept the thing going.

Very sad news condolences to all of Lukes family

He was the real driving force in that minor team that were beaten by the boro around 2010/11

Unbelievably sad news. A great hurler and clubman by all accounts. A tragedy like this puts into perspective the 'worries' of championship draws/relegation etc.

Condolences to Luke's club Kilmacow and team mates who must be traumatised and devastated, but particularly to his immediate family and friends. An awful tragedy and a terrible loss. RIP Luke.

Can't have been much older than 30 if he played on that fantastic kilmacow minor team, what a tragedy. RIP and condolences to his family and community.

Only 33, desperately sad news, condolences to all of his family, friends and everyone in Kilmacow.

I would’ve hurled with Luke when we were younger. He would’ve been around 32/33. Way too young to have passed. I saw him again only a couple of weeks ago and he was in good form.

An absolute warrior and leader on the pitch, and gentleman off it. Condolences to his family and friends, and may he rest in peace.

Well maybe after giving 14 or 15 years to KK he decided to travel this summer. He owes nothing to KK or Comer. He doesnt need to show anything to anyone. Show the man some respect.

May Luke Harney rest in peace.

Many posters refer to how his death puts things in perspective. Hopefully that attitude continues on this forum with lots of views and comments about Kilkenny hurling but less of the insulting and disrespectful stuff. Players, young and old, are not objects open to ridicule. They provide us with enormous entertainment, week in week out, at their expense -financially, mentally, physically etc.

In future, let's be more aware of the players contribution and more appreciative of them while we have them.

Well said Grats. Particularly poignant for me are the mentions of Luke as a minor and how he led that team. It shows how someone performs on the field can act as a reference and trigger fond memories for many years to come.

RIP Luke and condolences to his family and loved ones.

Ill respond to this in a few days. Not the time. On Luke Harney he was an outstanding club player and Kilkenny player. Kilmacow went through a few barren years where they really struggled. Luke Harney always kept the show on the road, always performed well. As a club follower much more than an Intercounty follower it is a tragic loss to the Kilmacow community along with family and friends and Luke would have put in untold work to that community and club for years to come, it seems the club has turned a corner with the performance of the junior team this year and Kilmacow look stronger now underage than they have in a long time. Luke was a big contributor in this.
