Why aren't they Junior anyway? No ones first team gets relegated from Junior to Junior A as far as I can see. Is it just them and Carrigeen that have teams not in top 3 grades?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 198 ✭✭kentu

Yes just those 2, I would expect Threecastles to win it over next year or 2 anyway, They've obviously done great work over last few years to get them this far.

Carrigeen are struggling even in Junior F to win games so they would be a Million miles away from Junior.

Carrigeen's second team are junior F.

I think their first team are in Junior C or maybe D

Ok. Thought they had a team in a higher grade.

I see on the website where they only won one game this year, against The Rower Inistioge's 4th team. They gave a walkover in one game. Really struggling so by the looks of it

Still a big gap from A to Junior in my eyes. Imagine Threecastles playing the following if they had won and neither wins their county final: Windgap, Slieverue, Graiguenamanagh, Piltown, Emeralds, Barrow Rangers and a relegated Intermediate team

They only won junior C 2 years ago. Never close to junior as long as I remember

Does anyone have a master fixtures plan for the league finals and championship senior to junior?

U16 lost to Waterford in Portlaoise, 3-14 to 1-11, in the Shield.

Waterford lost to Dublin in the Shield Final after extra time.

Cork beat Kk 1-10 to 0-11 in the under 16 (2) cup final

Kilkenny beat Laois 6-15 to 1-05 in the shield in the u16 (1) shield final

That Kilkenny v Laois wasn't a Shield final. Waterford and Dublin contested it. Laois and Kilkenny were the 2 losing semi finalists. I don't know what title they gave to it.

I was at three games today, two U16 and the U 14 final whereas the U 14’s fielded the ball more times than the other two games combined.and the U14 teams only caught the ball at answer for us losing the skills of hurling.best a dozen times most of which led to a score, they all seem to want to bat it down for there opponents to win it . The clubs have to answer for the loss of skillls at underage level.

I said that here a few weeks ago that eddie was joining the backroom team a fowards coach. Niall corcoran obviously worked with eddie in laois and was with wexford hopefully he brings something different. A proper goalie coach is needed. Talks of scruff leaving although if glenmore win the county final he could be persuaded. Huw suppose to be going to Australia after the club campaign although hopefully he might go for a few months and come back. I was hoping they might go left field and bring in someone like kieran donahy. Henry supposed to be getting the 20s although he needs to carry himself better on the sideline instead of getting involved with opposition backroom teams and supporters. The county board need to go after more of that great crop. Brian hogan, richie power, taggy, mick fennelly, even richie hogan and paul murphy at underage.

Did our U16A team lose a SHIELD semi final by 12 points today?

Is that not extremely worrying? Good Lord.

Lost to Waterford by 10 points, 3-15 to 1-11 and that was in the shield, so they are a bit off for next year by the looks of it .

Yeh I wasn't sure if it was A or B team. Based on team on the GAA website they had all the Minor panellists available. That's not good.

That is disappointing to hear. I thought we were turning the corner. I thought this years minors were going to be one of these great teams we produce once a generation but it turned out to be an average team again. Very hard to pinpoint where it is going wrong. Are the clubs doing enough underage ?

That's harsh on this year's minor team, I was at the semi final as a netural and it was 2 really good sides going at it, yourselves, Cork and Waterford were the 3 strongest at u17 this year, Cork took their eye off the ball against Clare in the other semi final.

I was at the U16A games in Portlaoise.

Waterford were probably worth more of a win. Kilkenny didn't create a goal chance. Waterford worked ball out from the full backline impressively.

Individually the Kilkenny team isn't bad, but they don't play like a team at all. They cut back to one training session a week while other counties seem to be doing more, and gel better.

Dublin, luckily, beat Laois by 2 pts in their semi. Dublin beat Waterford by a point in extra time in the Shield final. Dublin were a fair bit better than Waterford but hit a lot of wides. They were a big bunch of 15/16 year olds.

Kilkenny and Laois, the losing semi finalists had a tight game till half time. Laois seemed to have a shallow pool of players and they fell apart in the second half. Two 1 hour games in 3 hours is a lot for chaps that age.

Eddie will be a fantastic addition. Expect Kilkenny to be better next year even with his involvement.

well Chaz I heard the Waterford team used their minor panellists is that what you were saying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭Sir Chaz

No I didn't see Waterford team but the Kilkenny panel appeared to have all the 16's that were on the Kilkenny Minor panel all included. So basically no U16 players were unavailable. Suggests we are very weak at that age and doesn't augur well for next years Minor prospects. I think that same group took a serious trimming off Tipp this time last year as well.

The Kilkenny 16As put in their best performance of the year against Tipperary and beat them by a point 6 weeks ago.

It's not all doom and gloom. Other counties may be training more. Management will change for the 16s too. I've a nephew on it so I've heard all their results and watched a good few of their matches.

That Kilkenny group beat Cork in the A Championship final as 14s and trained twice a week then but once a week this summer?! Waterford just looked a far more polished unit yesterday. You couldn't say they had far better individuals. Just looked like a well drilled team.

well Chaz. The message I was sent was”I heard the blahs played a few minors in that U16 game yesterday” the chap who sent it would be in the know.

County management teams were waiting for full team to be put together before announcing them, they're in place now for senior, expect an announcement tonight. Not sure if minor and U20 are fully finalised so may not be announced tonight but managers are in place.
