Just to clarify on my earlier post, I am not accusing Henry or the Kilkenny back room staff of anything we are clearly not in the full know but I have no reason to doubt Henry’s words in his interview or else why would he say what he said.

I doubt if any player with the compact nature of the inter county season now is playing without a niggle come semi final or final day and that is totally fine/understandable.

Based on Henry’s interview Mullen had a serious injury and was unable to train during the inter county season which will lead him to miss the majority of the club season with Shamrocks; therefore when you look at Mullen’s performance on semi final day I cannot fathom how he was left on for so long as talented as he is. We are not good enough at the moment to be carrying passengers.

Some big games this weekend again. 4 weeks in a row is really tough. Especially in this hot weather and hard ground. Plenty of injuries too. Think I heard on the radio David fogarty has had a acl.

Loughlins ballyhale will be interesting but there could be a bit of shadow boxing. Erins own ballycallan massive match. Ballycallan have shown enough consistency to think they should win this.

Glenmore are the form team and will fancy themselves against the boro in mooncoin.

In intermidiate the village should take care of dunnamaggin while rower inistioge and St lachtains is a very important game. That group is so tight, no team is safe yet.

Serious 2nd half by Loughlins. Ballyhale cut them apart in the first half but they completely locked them up in the second half. Midfield and half forward line for Ballyhale didn't get a sniff.

Both teams got some savage scores.

Dicksboro unlucky not to have getting something out of that game.

You make your own luck Glen kept going and never gave in.Something lacking in the boro a bit like Galway promise so much but dont deliver.

Boro seem to be lacking the quality up front, left the game hanging and glenmores bench made the difference. That being said a few missed frees were the losing of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,413 ✭✭✭Marrooned

missing eight or nine players, at least five first team and another one injured today, that could account for lack of quality as you call it

Large crowd in Ballyragget for the Erin's Own GBC game. At one point it looked like half of them were standing outside the Comer dugout! Something really should be done about the numbers on the sidelines, it's a recipe for disaster.

I thought GBC were the better team but Comer hung in there, thanks in part to some soft frees. But it's another game where they should have won and didn't. Sean Ryan was quite impressive today.

Those junior finals in nowlan Park are a great idea. Great entertainment there today and last night.

More exciting and gripping than a lot of the senior or intermidiate matches.

2 cracking games today and kilmacow with a good victory last night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 443 ✭✭droppingball

Yeah the list of injuries is ridiculous but even with them all fit, the boro are a serious collection of hurlers but the lack of exceptional forward quality is not there. You are more worried about the collective overpowering you than forming a plan to take their main men out of the game.

In fairness the intermidiate and senior games so far have been massively entertaining, these game must of been mind blowing entertaining so.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭neverbet

Paddy Deegan, Huw Lawlor and Jordan Molloy were a class apart particularly in the second half. Richie Reid one glaring first half error apart outstanding for Shamrocks. Nice bit of needle in the game and would be a must see if they were to meet again. Dara and Killian Corcoran and Niall Shortall potential county additions were disappointing in this one. GBC /Comer game not of the same quality but hard fought. Comer deserved the draw and it was interesting to see Aaron McEvoy and young Corcoran benched by Ballycallan. They seem to puck every ball down on Conor Flynn and Conor McMahon did a decent job for Comer dealing with him.

Ah no you're right in fairness. It has been very good, some excellent contests. Probably judgement clouded by the match I saw yesterday which was a one sided bore.

My point though was the junior c, é and f finals are do or die knock out matches with silverware on the line whereas the senior, intermidiate and junior you know there's another game next week win, lose or draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 461 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Another game next week is no good to gbc lisdowney blacks & whites st martins or any other team trying to stay out of relegation there going hard for the game there playing at the present moment

The teams with the bigger squads like the village or olg can afford to lose a game or 2 as they have pints in the bag

The other teams are treating every game like a knockout game everyday

Clara hurled very well last night against Thomastown. Paul Cody and Rory Glynn caused plenty of problems. Clara went full on overload on Zach Bays wing and crowded both Zach and Eddie Donnelly where possible and they played the two Glynns inside as a two with Bolger drifting out. It left Staunton loose for Thomastown who was free on wing but never really drifted to protect the space in front of Rory Glynn in particular. Clara were very spirited and will take a hell of a lot from that match. They will be a tricky assignment for anyone going forward. Paul Cody is a handful and of he tidied his finishing he would be an addition for Kilkenny.

Thomastown had to really battle to win, Stephen Donnelly and John Donnelly hurling well with 9 points from play between them and Colm Treacy is very game inside for them, he is good in the air for a small man, he won a few balls with bigger men on him. Daithi Barron hurled well for them when he came on, won ball in the air and ground and popped two points and had few good assists, probably most pleasing thing for them was his impact and the fightback to win. They probably need to tighten up at the back all the same.

Relegation will be spicy this year as will the first rounds, plenty of good teams will find themselves under pressure. Interesting few weeks ahead.

Is there a break after round 5 or is it league/shield and first rds the following week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 731 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

I was wondering that myself. Think first round /league finals were week after 5th round last year. This schedule will test the strength of squads especially with a lot of injuries..

Clara and gbC have been very unlucky as you say, very competitive but just coming out on the wrong side of scorelines. If erins own finish out of the bottom 2 that would be a great escape as they looked poor early in the first few rounds.

Wouldn't surprise me if clara beat mullinavat though. As good as mullinavat can be, when they're off it they can be very poor on certain days.

There has been improvement in a good number of the teams in the senior. It's tighter than it has been in a while. Can see a few shocks happening come championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Takeyourpoints

Probably the most even it's been and the pack seems to be a lot tighter, with a top 3 (OLG, Ballyhale, Thomastown) and then an even enough spread across the remaining 9 teams.

Group A, OLG are the best team in it but they are still missing a forward or two before anyone can say they will definitely win it out. Ballyhale would have to be considered a top 3 team despite the loss against Glenmore. If they get their forwards firing in championship only O loughlins will beat them. Glenmore have had a great year after a close call last year while Boro's injuries and fellas gone travelling have depleted them. Bridge aren't too far back and Lisdowney despite their losses have put in battling performances. Another year at senior would probably stand to them.

In the other group, Thomastown have had a few wobbles before finishing strong in nearly all their games, are they looking to time their run? Tullaroan's injuries probably rule them out of competing for championship this year but at the same time they will die with their hurls in hand. The other 4 teams are very even, with Comer and Mullinavat both looking stronger than last year. GBC seem to have regressed slightly and can't seem to put teams away at the moment, but they will look at their results and wonder what could have been and maybe will take a bit of encouragement from that. Clara seem to be the most stagnant, with the two Glynns adding a bit of bite to their forwards.

The CB probably going to wait until the November county board meeting to ratify managers. No fuss with the year nearly over.

Whoever they have lined up for u20 must be in action with a club now and don't want/need the distraction of an announcement.

Cork already sorted with a manager while our eejits are still **** acting around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 461 ✭✭jamesbond2022

It’s a pity we haven’t a successful u20 manager over the last few years to make the step up to the senior role

Cork have been lucky with Ryan having underage success and o Connor more recently it’s easier to change manager when there’s good candidates comming through similar to when Derek stepped in after actually winning something underage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 NJoyKkGAA

Does it matter how long they take? what’s the rush? I’m sure they are ensuring whom ever it is, old or new it will be who they consider to be the best fit for the year ahead. Besides, they are probably getting ready for EP!

The reason for the rush is that there's currently so many matches on and opportunities to see new players. What's the point in naming new managers when there's no games left for them and their selectors to watch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 NJoyKkGAA

I think anyone in contention would already be attending, watching and scouting for emerging talent at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 818 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

One would hope so. They should have confirmed the Senior team if as expected Lyng is continuing or release a statement like Cork have done that he is staying on and that this will be ratified with his backroom staff at this date. This gives everyone sureity. They could then say that they are still going through the process for appointing the underage management teams and this will be done for Novemeber meeting. Instead what will happen is gossip.

I was hoping Threecastles would win Jun A tonight and get promoted to the heady heights of Jun. Would have been some achievement with three consecutive promotions.

Verney reporting Eddie Brennan and Niall Corcoran joining the management team.
