Why in the name of God would blanchfieid call it a day? He's 25/26 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

He is not getting time. Has happened over the years with many players. Its a massive committment. If your not getting time you may decide to call it a day.

Too bad he didn't stick around, he'd be a good leader to have on the team, still only 28.

I think as many posters have stated here we discard players to easily. A lot of the players are young and it can be daunting for them when they get the call up. Some are still not mature and when they are rejected it can have a massive influence on them for years. I have heard of people not going to try out when called up as they had a brother or someone else close to them who were messed about.

Now this has been going on for as long as I can remember at county level so its not just the current management or under Cody. As i said its been happening for years.

From talking to a few kk hurling men the general feeling is they're dissapointed that things are staying the same. Its very unusual that a county board fully backs a management that isnt improving. Derek and rice were absolutely brillant servants to club and county and are trying their best but its very obvious this team is in decline. Derek has being way too conservative. From the team cody handed to him after the limerick defeat 3 years ago 12 of them started against tipp a few weeks ago. Padraig, conor browne, tommy walsh the 3 changes and 2 of them are finished. I dont accept that there isnt more jordon molloys or stephen donnellys in the county. McMahon for comer was exceptional last wknd and has had some great games for comer,we know that paul cody and tom kenny wouldnt go back in but he needs to go after these lads again.Same with Eddie donnelly. Oisin knox from vegas. I know ian byrne was away last year but glenore have a few good young lads. We cant go back to the likes of billy drennan next year. Eddie brennan will be a help around the squad but it desperately needed a clear out and freshess added to add a bit of excitement. Tom mullally would of being a great addition.

He got loads of game time last year. He just wasnt at his best, needs to performe to the level he did in 24 and he will be just fine.

Hopefully the rumours of Eddie Brennan going in are true, he would be a great addition.

No way should he retire, if he used the ball quicker he is as good as there is out there. He takes forever to scan his options and loves that drag back dummy he uses all the time. I'd say the forwards are pulling their hair out. But he has all the attributes if he can work on things.

Still need a ball carrier and some pace in the team.

I heard Liam Smiths name mentioned for the minor job and my first reaction was not another **** teacher.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭neverbet

A very insightful contribution !!!!where would hurling be in this county or any other county for that matter without our teachers , again all voluntary?... Cop on to yourself.

After hearing that interview with Henry I was disgusted and a clear reasoning why the current management should be relieved of thier duties. It was clear fairly early on in the semi final that Mullen was off the pace and was rightly about to be substituted for Stephen Donnelly around the 44th minute before Mullen got a handy score which meant we didn’t see Donnelly until the 67th minute leaving little or no time for him to make an impact when we were badly needing an injection of energy long before.

The fact that Mullen hadn’t been training and was carrying a injury with all of the above is a clear failure of management and serves as another reason why it doesn’t shock me if lads are turning down the prospect of going into the camp, giving their all and slogging it out in the preseason/league only for this sort of bull**** going on. At the moment we are not good enough to be carrying injured lads into battle and it’s a terrible error from Lyng and management to have done so with Mullen. One that should be enough for the Co Board to look for other candidates.

Agree and God only knows what long term damage playing Mullen while injured will have on him going forward is it any wonder lads don't want to commit to County if this is the type of thing that is going on.Have to question how Physios,Doctors S&C etc can allow this situation to happen

It wouldn't only be the Management id be asking questions to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭neverbet

Unless I am badly mistaken Mullen played the full final game of the round robin v Wexford Centre back and full game Leinster final v Galway and showed no signs of any injury. There was no injury apparent in the semi final and I know John Mullane criticised him after that game ,not for his display rather his reaction to being subbed. Strange one.

Maybe not an apparent injury, but Mullen was certainly off the pace in the semi-final, slow to react to things and his touch was off. If he wasn't training regularly due to a groin strain, his fitness would have suffered which you won't get away with.

That is quite a statement! I wonder what Shefflin would make of yours? Quite accusatory. I would like to think that management would have player welfare at the heart of their decision making! I would not question the professional credibility or integrity of the back room team including physios, doctors etc I would be wholly confident that they would 100% uphold all professional standards and best practice by not allowing injured players play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 covcat

It is Henry's who has said Mullen has been carrying serious ground injury all year and he doesn't know when he will have him back with Shamrocks. If this is the case where is management welfare and how can you say back room team would 100%uphold all professional standards and not allow seriously injured players play. Also if I was S.Donnelly,Luke Hogan etc why would I go in and give my heart and soul throughout winter preseason only to be left sat on bench come business end of championship while seriously injured player who has not trained take my place on team

If people don't have a burning desire to play for Kilkenny then they have no business anywhere near a panel. It's hard to get on the panel never mind get on the team. How long did it take TJ to claim a starting place on that team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭Marrooned

    It’s a forum,all opinions and I wouldn’t be on my own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 NJoyKkGAA

I heard that interview. Henry was not in the county camp and is not in possession of all the facts . The Kilkenny medical team Doctors and Physios are. They are people of the highest integrity in medicine . Who are you or indeed Henry to question them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

This has been going on for years under Cody and Lyng probably doing the same. As a previous poster stated this team cant carry players that are not 100%. I dont think we should lay blame on anyone without full facts. The only thing we can all agree on is that he should have been subbed way sooner as he wasnt at his best.

I am commenting on what Henry said regarding Mullen carrying serious injury I have no idea whether this is true or not.I would like to think that everyone connected with Kilkenny teams are full of integrity/best intentions however should Henry's claims be true do you not think questions have to asked of everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭Conversations 3

Mullen was way off the pace, I was sure he'd be whipped off at halftime.

Luke Hogan or Donnelly would have improved things, Hogan is flying it this year so hope he keeps it going into the county team.

One would wonder why our physio has stepped away and won't return next year. A very highly respected and top class physio by all accounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

He was miles off and that point before half time saved him which was probably worse for team.

When you reach the business end of the championship you need your bench. There is probably not a lot between 4 or 5 teams on any given day and that bench maybe the differnce to get you over the line. That has been Lyngs biggest issue. Lack of bench or refusal to trust it. Sometimes you might not 100% fancy the players on the bench but you have to take a risk and I believe Lyng is not one for taking risks. Thats his personality IMO and that wont change unless he has strong minded people around him to influence him that way.

Awful lot of rumours and speculation being posted here and whilst there's no smoke without fire nobody here actually knows what's going/gone on. Then you have people reading this forum, maybe not posting, and relaying these comments to people in real life (Jaysus I heard Doherty left because he didn't like that selector, Jaysus I heard the physio left because Mullen was injured) as if they're in the know and all this speculation gets super charged. I realise this is a discussion forum and it's entertaining to read all this stuff but if you don't KNOW something as fact, take a second before you press confirm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Takeyourpoints

Couldn't agree more about people spouting rumours. Also those that are getting information directly from people in the camp, they are surely telling you this stuff in confidence, not for you to be coming on a forum and telling the world (players within the camp shouldn't be leaking too much regarding arguments or fall-outs anyway but that's another thing). We can all spread things and say this came from such and such a place and because we're all hiding behind fake profiles we can't be called out on it. Look at the cork row in the dressing room. I've heard 3 different stories and now don't believe any of them because it's all Chinese whispers. Wouldn't take any rumours on here at face value

I think it is clear that there a few people with their own little agendas posting under different names. Also, a lot of clueless idiots as well, same as any forum...

Regarding the Mullen injury obviously unless your in the setup with kk you don’t know the full story but when shefflin mentions what he did in an interview that can be replayed for anyone to listen to it’s pretty much coming from the horses mouth

If there’s 30 players on a pitch there is a fair chance a lot of them are carrying some kind of knocks or niggles nobody is 100% fit all the time

Some will do anything to be on the pitch for the business end of there season including getting injections or painkillers etc

Read any sports persons autobiography and they ll mention this or knowing there not 100% fit going out or struggle through a fitness test but do enough convince management there good to go

I’m pretty sure j Donnelly wasn’t 100% fit in 2024 and he had played most of the games

Mick Fennelly and r hogan are 2 other examples

I think it’s probably unfair to blame medical staff or the player or the management in this scenario everyone wants to be out there and give the team the best chance of winning

The mistake the management did probably make was to leave Mullen on so long when he was struggling in the semi

Agree 100% regarding players playing while not 100% fit and with niggles I doubt very much any team ever had everyone fully fit. However (and these are Henry's words)Mullen has had serious groin injury all year and I'm afraid that did not give us best chance of winning I would say the opposite and Luke Hogan or S.Donnelly would of been better options.
