well got told today a decision has being made on my application and the super signed it today and the Sergeant is putting it up on the system , so prob another week or 2 before they bother sending out that letter , so all in 3 full months down to the week for the application and that’s including about 4-5 weeks of it being lost …what a bloody road , now let’s hope its not a refusal letter 😂😂 . what I learnt from this experience is the process can be as stressful as hell.

As soon as it is entered on the computer, PULSE will automatically issue a grant letter and you should have it in 2-3 days, with a month to pay.

Anyone can pay, not just the licence applicant.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

First time with a new application in this jurisdiction since I moved house. I'm 8 weeks in. My renewals over the last few years seemed to come in a very timely fashion. But this new application is dragging on a bit. CPO was out 2 weeks ago to check my security, so I'm sure the wheels are in motion. I'll go looking for an update if I don't hear anything more by week 10.

from what I learnt from my application it really depends on the super in the area , I’d say out of all the time mine took 90% of that was just sitting on the supers desk .

Starting week 12 tomorrow. Was in the local station today. FO wasn't there. Supposedly in Monday morning. I might chain myself to the front desk.

Renewal sent off on the 30th June via An Post, grant letter received today. The garda who deals with them in Swords Garda Station is exceptional.

Coming up on 4 months now since submitting a new application.
The form sat untouched for weeks despite multiple follow-up calls to the FO. I was told they’re currently prioritizing renewals, so new applications are handled by whoever picks them up.

I visited the station and went through the checklist again with the same Garda I submitted it to about 10 weeks earlier. He said it would be signed off by the sergeant the next day.

Three weeks later—still no letter. Back to chasing them again

So fourteen months for the Ceiner Hohrein conversion kit,and 14.5 months for the "Unique" 22 Pistol/Rifle combo, got the grant cert this AM. Ok I will give them that they were two "oddball" firearms and not your everyday .22s,so by the time much consultation of all parties was done to legality and licensing thereof. It was going to take awhile. But it shows if you hang tough you will get there eventually.

I am one week over 6 months for x2 new applications. Been on to them every week, got a call to say they are now finally gone back to the Super for a 2nd time. Delay was supposedly with the report from the crime prevention unit.

not sure how true this is but there does seem to be a serious delay in new applications intentional or not, that's up for discussion.

Renewals seem to be ok though.

Currently 6.5months now. Had been waiting on a review of my house and security, that took 2 months for report.

They have confirmed it is now back with the Super waiting for review.

Delays are getting annoying as I missed out on a few competitions and dealers are now looking at charging storage.

they are helpful, supers office has been ringing me giving me updates as it move through the process and reminding me its all ok just very slow.

NARGC has offered to help if i dont get any progress

x2 renewals also gone in 2 weeks ago

Substitution went in on Tuesday and license came today Monday, so 6 days.

Again my thanks to the Kilkenny FO, Garda Fitzpatrick and Superintendent O'Meara for the quick turnaround.

Have anybody ever submitted a complaint to fiosru?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭conor2469

Just over 4 weeks in and heard nothing back. Called to my local sub station (which is only open 4 hours per week) and asked to speak to FO. Took my name and number and passed it on. Got a call within 10 minutes (while I was driving home) which I missed. Immediately rang back only to be forwarded to the district HQ (No direct number for my local station). Hopefully they try ringing me again otherwise I have to wait until next week when they are open to try again…

AKA The Garda Complaints Comission,GSOC,the Garda Ombudsman, and now re branded with an Irish name but the same original contents no doubt.

Yes,multiple times back in the oughties handgun and SACFR courts wars,as have at least a half dozen other members of this community. In fairness, they WILL investigate complaints in relation to firearms matters, but oddly in all cases that I have heard of and in mine, they found nothing to uphold in the original complaints.

Strange that.A Garda Supt thinking he was above a DC judges ruling on being orderd to grant two restricted liscenses, and literally changing his mind at the court doors, then repeating the same stunt twice more in two following years with me,and all other restricted liscense holders with SACFR and handguns in his district.

While you proably wont get any results in the complaint. It does leave a mark on someone's career file, that they were subjected of a GO investigation in relations to a "firearms matter."Which may or may not affect the ol career ladder for aims at the Park.

I had a renewal going through the system, recently.

Renewal notification arrived in the post about 2-3 weeks after it's dated.

I completed it left the application back into my local station within 3-4 days of receipt.

I then got a letter telling me that they'd 3 months to make a decision (which started from a date 2 weeks after I had left the renewal paperwork into the station, so would potentially run on about 5-6 weeks after my current licence expired).

Then, my grant notification with request for €80 arrives later the same week.

While I'm obviously very happy that my renewal ended up only taking about 3 weeks, from date I left renewal into the station (particularly given summer holiday season)...

It does suggest to me that there must be a central admin team issuing both the initial renewal reminders and now also the notifications to acknowledge receipt of application, with potential 3 month timeline for a decision (with both being slow to issue, so causing unnecessary duress due to time delays).

I wonder if this is the non - Gardai admin people letting the process down ?

    Thanks,

    G.

AFAIK the system is fully automatic.

When paperwork is received and input on PULSE, the system should issue the "3 months to decision" letter (There might be a yes/no option on Pulse to issue this letter, as not all get it).

When the application is granted and updated on Pulse then the Grant Letter is issued automatically.

Renewal notifications are printed and issued automatically 3 months before expiration (weekends, bank holidays and An Post, notwithstanding)
