I had known years ago that the Dart stations in Blackrock & Seapoint were unmanned pre-covid. Although Seapoint had removed the ticket barriers years before Blackrock. Does Blackrock Dart Station still have ticket barriers installed or have they been removed since Covid?

Still has ticket barriers but anytime I've been, at least 2 of the 6 barriers have been left open

It makes sense to have fewer barriers if the transport plan is for integrated multi-modal trips and ticket types that favour this. The TFI 90min ticket works much better for example

So does adequate Revenue Protection - if it not only protects revenue, but shows active staff presence that inhibits anti-social behaviour.

Just like having uniformed Gardai visible over the inner City. Pity, the Gardai have yet to implement this approach.

Blackrock has 4 turnstiles and remains a staffed station most of the day, no booking office ticket sales (doesn't have the new retail system) but there is a staff member there

Given how busy it is and that it’s a stop on the Rosslare line, makes some sense for them to have people resources there for issues that arise.

One thing I’d be interested in is if they will try and rent out over the station again. They tried it a few years ago but didn’t happen. Also there is some cool concepts out there for the parking space around the station. It’s not Irish Rail related and they’ll be loathe to do it but some options there with the land around the station in future years I’d have thought.

Just to point out, commuter trains on the Rosslare line no longer stop there. The only commuter services to use it are the Maynooth & Dundalk peak-time services that go to/from Dun Laoghaire & Bray

Ah, wasn't aware there was still staff during the week! I suppose the times I've been there have mainly been at the weekends.

I’m happy with the new Cabra station! They have sited it exactly where I wanted them to, at the south end of the site in order to reduce overlap with Cabra Luas stop.

I used app.traveltime.com to work out a 15 minute walk from the location and the south end worked out the best.

I recommend they give it a name like Cabra South to disambiguate from Cabra Luas stop.

I wonder will there be any details of the Kylemore station? Would be a bit unfair if Cabra gets its new dart station and ballyfermot doesn't

I do believe a Ballyfermot/Kylemore station is being worked on by IÉ, with more details being released later this year.

It's not really a question of fairness just a question of what's possible with the available resources. Kylemore will be on a 4 track railway of which 1 track is not yet built so it adds design complexity that can't be addressed outside of the planning system. You might day it should have been in the design scope from day 1 and you'd be correct, unfortunately we have politics over planning.

Cabra is on land owned by CIE already which greatly simplifies the project

You can't apply for planning unless you have the written agreement of all landowners involved

Which is the mostly likely reason it currently only has one proposed entrance, get the thing built and then over time you can work to acquire/agree entrances to the site from other directions.

Irish rail probably needs a network wide review of access, there are many stations that could benefit from additional entrances but irish rail seem hostile to the concept, the southern entrance to Tara St is offered only begrudgingly

While true, this could also have been said about most of the stations on the dart network, to be honest.

If they're going barrier free across the network, then it'd make sense to go back and redesign all the stations to take account of this. No need to have a building that everyone had to funnel through is there's no need for barriers, so you could have direct access at either end, on each platform.

I'll believe it when I see it though.

BTW, I'm not sure if someone else has already posted this news, but some DART updates from the March NTA Board Meeting Minutes:

    • Class 8100, Irish Rail was given the go ahead to order 100 Alstom EMU carriages to replace the Class 8100 DART EMU's. This will be the third firm order with Alstom.
    • Railway Toilet Strategy, apparently they have a strategy for toilets on the Northern line. It doesn't go into detail, but I'd guess toilets at various stations along the line. The strategy is to be in place prior to the Drogheda DART BEMU's starting and they want to extend it to the whole DART+ network.
