I agree it send the wrong signal to the team. The first substitutions did as well taking Breen off for Dylan Casey. Putting Morley in front of Murphy was telling Meath come on down this wing and make hay.

You get the impression that Jack decided he wanted a home QF before the game at all.

I be surprised of the do either. If Clare beat Louth we will have a strong opponent in Killarney next weekend if it's Galway they will have a similar turnaround to us.

Yes Meath were missing 6 starters. Some of Meaths best players.

    Meath were missing

    Jack Flynn Meaths best midfielder

Ronan Jones Leader of the team last years captain the only player on team who is aged 26 to 29

Jack kinlough Another first team starter played every game this year when fit

Brian O’Halloran Meath Corner back another first team starter, started every game this year but Cork game

James Conlon Meaths best forward this year Man of the match v Dubs & Roscommon scoring 6 pts from play in both games

Matthew Costello The Best footballer in county Meath by a mile

Conor Gray Another midfielder would have started only he is still recovering from 3 months with pneumonia and pile of injuries

Meach were so depleted at midfield Meath played O Neill who is defender and only ever played twice before for Meath at midfield.

Listen kerry will be back. Us in Meath have great respect and admiration for kerry. I think we both like beating Cork and Dublin, and when the Kingdom beat the Dubs, we in Meath are always the Kingdom number 1 fan. And Beating kerry is like beating All blacks of Gaelic football. U guys are always the benchmark. The genius of kerry football is you always comeback from defeat stronger. Kerry will regroup and I still think it will be kerry v Armagh final. Extra games will bring kerry on. Get Paudi Clifford back, it changes everything.

Just regards Meath this is completely new young Meath team, probably youngest team in country average age 22 23 ,with some of the best talent to come out Meath since 90s. Caulfield Meath wing back is good wing back I have ever play for Meath, hes only 21. Kinsella best playmaker since Giles again 21 and Morris is better at 24 than Ollie Murphy was at 24. This Meath team has huge potential. This year and next year will be very up and down but in 2027 2028 when players like Frayne Caulfield Duke Coffey hit 23 24, and Costello Flynn Morris hit 26 27, I think Meath will have serious team. This year they are improving at huge rate. They R youngest team ever to beat Kerry and Dublin in same championship. Only 5 th leinster team to beat kerry and Dublin in same championship. Other team were Meath 2001 Kildare 1998 1927 Offaly 1982 and outside leinster only 4 teams have beaten Kerry and Dubs in same year they are Tyrone 2008 2005 Armagh 2002 Cork 1989.

As I said kerry will be back, anyone who writes of the Kingdom knows nothing about football. In my view kerrys 38 All Ireland is one greatest achievement in Irish sport. As Colm O'Rourke says there are 3 certainties in life, paying taxes, death and kerry winning Sam.

Any info/guesses on the the current injuries and when they might be back?

Saw someone say if prelims go ad expected armagh can only play kerry in the quarter finals as they were in the same group as dublin and galway and played donegal in the ulster final.

So there ye go lads. That should wake you up on a Monday morning!!

Great to see Meath back where they belong. Great for the Leinster championship and football in general.

Ye have tradition but it's great for kids to see a successful team and new heroes to follow rather than talk about the past and the team in the 90s.

I think the new rules suit Meath as ye very strong at winning kickouts.

Can't see us beating Armagh but who knows if we can get our injured players back.

If DOC and Barry Dan are both out, then I think we're too weak in midfield to compete.

It's the most important position now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭cmac2009

Agreed. They'll also have had two weeks off going into that game.

Barry Dan has been terrific this season, but believe it was knee ligament damage he suffered and speculation is his season is over.

SaSaw the team today, not happy Paul Murphy in instead of Dylan Casey. It's a bit of a joke now trying to fit Murphy into tge team. We are playing Graham O Sullivian out if position, and having Casey on the bench and Burke not on the bench. At present we are carrying as many free passengers as the average CIE bus

I am inclined to agree with Darragh O Se on his assessment on the two links below.

Agree on this, same old failings again, all chips in with the same group on his last year as manager.

I fully expect us to beat Cavan, even though they won't be a complete push over having 3 Div1 teams played.

We've nothing played since the league & fear us getting caught in the quarters.

    Diarmuid gone again. Injuries nonstop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭cmac2009

Is that the same injury he's coming back from?

That's surely his season over now as well. Disaster.

If results go as expected this weekend and we play Armagh next weekend, they'd be laughing watching that performance. Could be an embarrassing result next weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,803 ✭✭✭50HX

    Great win by the minors.

I thought they were done for with 10 to go but they stuck to their guns, heads didn't drop.

Will be a right battle v tyrone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,582 ✭✭✭dobman88

So Armagh confirmed next weekend after results this weekend.

All being equal, you'd think it'll be on Saturday as a double header with the Dublin match so all teams who played this weekend have a week at least. But it'll probably be on Sunday late afternoon.

I think it'll be the last game we play this summer. Haven't seen anything at all to suggest we will worry Armagh. I just hope it's not a demolition job by them. It's hard enough to stomach a loss against them as it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭Piskin

Gotta hope for an improved performance against Armagh, against Cavan it was ragged. D Clifford still misses far too much at this level. Again we have P Murphy playing and will be exploited next week by Armagh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,803 ✭✭✭50HX

Lump it on Armagh at 8/11

    We've no bench

DOC is a huge loss again, I understood they needed to get minutes into him but bring him on after 30mins when the physicality is gone down a notch.

Jack's decision making at times again is baffling...see PMurphy yet again.

We've no bench & if we do get anyone else back from injury they won't be as battle ready as Armagh.

As sure as night follows day it'll be the Sunday game again 🙄

Feck it I still think it’s harsh enough talk about misses when a fella scores 3-07.

It’s the lads around him could pick things up and support more imo.

none of ye remember 2009 , that croke park affect will set ye right , once galway ran at armagh last week they had no answer that the first thing ye will do next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭Piskin

Yes 3-7 is good but remember this is a bad Cavan team, D Clifford went for more goals yesterday when he should have pointed instead, even Jack O Connor alluded to that in his interview. It's the fact that D Clifford has had bad misses against top teams at crucial moments that is worrying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭Piskin

The P Murphy inclusion in the team is baffling to say the least, and Dara Moynihan on the bench who has almost no football in him all year. Players should have been blooded in during the League. D Clifford on for the full match yesterday was crazy. Graham o' Sullivan in the half-forwards is not working yet Jack persists for some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭Radio5

I don't think we have strength in depth on this panel unlike 2009. Croke Park effect hasn't worked for some time now as anyone who attended the semi-final last year can testify.

While I would never write off a Kerry team completely we are in a poor position team and play wise. Jack has literally bough no new players in except maybe Dylan Geany in the last three years. Ww are away weaker team than 2022 when we last won.

Paul Murphy was not capable of making the team then now he is back in. Morley is a shadow of the player he was back then. I am travelling but I hope we do not get a hammering like against Meath in 2002 was it

W can be competitive if Jack picks Graham O Sullivian and Dylan Casey in the back but he will flute around accomodating the player that cannot be dropped

Paul Murphy taking a lot of heat in here and made the team of the week this week

People are clueless. He's been one of our most consistent players for over a decade now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,803 ✭✭✭50HX

The second last word in your comment is one of the reasons why he is no longer the player he was...he's kicking 34, a shadow of the player that got MOTM in 2014 final.

He's been found out repeatedly, he is where he is because of Jack's lack of depth development.

I was always a huge fan of his, he punched way above his weight for the size of him but he has had his day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,233 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

Drawing comparisons to 2009 may be optimistic thinking. That was a very different panel with much better players across the board that

I think Armagh are possibly a little overhyped by some and are beatable, but with the list of injuries that Kerry have it’s hard to see them having enough on the day. Stranger things have happened however.

I do hope people travel to get behind the lads. If their year ends on Sunday so be it but they deserve a bit of support.

His run for the goal was excellent however we were playing Cavan and made hard work of it in the second half. However I was there tge day too a few weeks ago against Cork when after Paudue got injured Jack could not get him as well as Shane and Rurai Murphy off the pitch fast enough.

From 2014 to 2020 he was one if our top 5-6 players great engine never exceptionally pacey like Foley but still quick enough. However he is quite slow now and the ability to read a game works against Cavan but while it might work another day he will ve badly caught out against top class opposition three days out of four. Meath raided down that wing the day they beat us.

Intend travelling next Sunday in hope more than expectation. Maybe I will be wrong but I expect it to be our last day out this year. Hopefully I am wrong but we are a poorer team than last year
