My expensive Japanese cardboard has arrived.

    PXL_20250305_210616398.jpg

Seems there was something meant to go in the pouch?

That looks like it needs to follow the 'rule of half' - if/when asked how much was it by the other half, give the half value figure - essential tactic.

Maybe the pouch is for flyers for the game, hints, tips etc.?

Update - Google Translate! Looks like it was a promo for the game, and there was some sort of quiz/giveaway competition - prob what the pouch had, flyers for it

Class! I didn't think of putting it though Google lens, you genius. Well that solves that :)

So the Gamesmaster Gore special video was apparently a gateway drug. I've been perusing a lot of VHS on eBay looking for original releases of films..specifically ex rentals.

Behold, an original 1984 ex rental release of Terminator and a 1987 RoboCop.

    PXL_20250307_172109972.jpg PXL_20250307_172159263.jpg PXL_20250307_172215497.jpg

To be fair, a lot of the original releases are quite hard to find so it's stopping me just walling myself into the house with tapes haha

Class! Did you play Robocop: Rogue City yet?

I just bought it for a tenner on steam. (I'd buy that for a dollar!) There's less than 24 hours go for that sale price.

Reviews says it really captures the essence of the original movie. VR has spoiled flat screen gaming for me but I make the odd exception, so can't wait sink my teeth into it.

I have yeah! You 100% definitely feel like Robocop, visually it's fantastic will full raytracing bells and whistles enabled. Best game representation I've ever seen of the film. I'd love if the same company did something with the Terminator IP.

It's a hard game to get right as given you're a walking indestructable machine, it can easily have the 'superman syndrome' where there's no challenge.

Funnily enough that VHS of Robocop I picked up has an ad for the arcade Robocop game at the very start. 😁

They did Terminate Resistance in 2019, reviews weren't great but I found it decent enough. You're not the first person to wish the Robocop developer did something with Terminator, so I had to double check it was actually the same crowd! I guess it shows how much it flew under the radar if people had no idea that Teyon did in fact do something with Terminator haha.

I bought it just before Christmas but didn't have time to play it and picked it up again a few days ago, must get stuck into it. So far they nailed the presentation with the design of the city and the sounds.

No way! that definitely flew under the radar indeed, have never heard of it at all. Will check it out this weekend, thanks for the heads up.

I'd be interested in how they handle the combat in that, given it's actually the opposite of the Superman problem with Robocop, in that you are now fighting against indestructable machines.

Actually it'd be great if someone did an Alien Isolation type job on it. Recreate the first film with just the one Terminator after you.

Edit: Only €15.49 on CDKeys at the moment:

So this is the get I hinted at recently.

2x Retroid Pocket 5, one is for a friend that I'm setting up.

They're a perfect size for a portable handheld.

The AMOLED screen is beautiful, the colours really pop and it's 1080p so even higher Res than a steam decks screen!

Still have a lot of setting up to do, I didn't disable the overlay before I took the pic.

This project has got me back into retro gaming with all the setting up I did on my phone as a trial run.

Will have no excuse now not to play retro games!

Those screens look amazing! Where'd you get them?

I had my RF transmitter arrive today and it works a charm.

    1000067926.jpg

I didn't realise it has HDMI in, thought it was composite only. So that was a nice surprise. I have the 360 running into it playing video from my NAS.

The quality is 100% RF so lots of noise but it really adds something to it. There was actually something kind of amazing seeing it pop up amid all the snow when I was tuning the TV. First time I've done that since everything went digital!

    1000067927.jpg

Unfortunately I don't have an analogue pocket game gear adapter at the moment. Would be really interesting to plug in the Game gear TV tuner and see how far up the road I can pick up the signal!

Was really looking forward to rouge city

Great graphics ,audio and you really feel like good oul Murphy, however it's the most boring game I've played in a long time :(

You really are indestructible, which is great for all of about 10 minutes and the " investigation " sections which are are just annoying and mundane..when In the name of god was Robocop plodding around and investigating crime scenes whilst scratching his chin like batman

    Direct from the manufacturers website:

If you use 4PX for shipping there's no surprise charges. So worth avoiding DHL .😉

Cheaper than AliExpress and shipping took 11 days including the Easter Bank Holiday which is great.

They have also just released the Flip 2 which is a DS Style handheld with the exact same spec as the pocket 5, and as well as being more portable it may also be more ergonomic for people too. The controls are a little cramped on the RP5, you can buy / 3d print grips for them to improve the comfort.

I'm actually struggling to get into it. Finding it fairly boring and the gunplay isn't very exciting? I don't mind the slow movement or anything but I thought it would be a bit more engaging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,400 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

It's a complete borefest, fun initially and then its just rinse/repeat - could have been so much better

Today's get is the Revenge Of Shinobi vinyl release from Data Discs from their B Stock sale.

To be honest it looks absolute perfect to me, not a single blemish or anything that looks worn.

    1000049260.jpg 1000049262.jpg 1000049263.jpg 1000049257.jpg 1000049259.jpg

If anyone else here ordered, vat was included at checkout so do not pay FedEx any customs fees if they ask, just email data discs and they will contact FedEx and the package will be released from without fees. They may even change their chosen courier company going forward.

Picked up a Oric Atmos, a repackaged 8-bit home computer Oric-1 from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangerine_Computer_Systems released in 1983 and the Atmos in 1984. Was released by the company when they saw the success of the Spectrum 48k. The machine itself wasn't really successful in the UK but it was a hit in France!

Machine when it first arrived from France, it was a little mank.

    1.Oric Atmos - Dirty.jpg

A good bit of time cleaning later, removing the internals, keys etc. and she looks good - some suggest one of the prettiest 8-bit home computers (maybe not including JPN machines). The lower part of the case is vibrant red, brighter than the red keys on top.

    2.Oric Atmos - Clean.jpg

It came with the orignial manual, which is kinda handy as it has a full pinout guide. A short time later I made a tape in/out/control cable.

Then a small mod to convert the RF out to a noisy componsite. I have the parts to make a RGB cable out, but awaiting on a RGB2HDMI external board before I put that together. Will be a handy board to have as it can be used for many other systems in the future. If you watch Adrian's Digital Basement on YouTube, he uses it quite a bit for 70s/80s machines.

    4.Oric Atmos - Tape Cable.jpg

Onwards to testing! Dug out the SVI-CAS sd/tape loading gadget by Romsey…and spent a lot of time trying to see what input voltage it needed. 7.5~9V for anyone interested. Derp on me as on the SD card is the manual which had all the info. Not a whole lot of working info online for these anymore.

    3.Oric Atmos - Tape Loading.jpg

Boom, another game other than the one which was loading :D Manic Miner! Componsite again looks like crap, especially on an LCD.

    5.Oric Atmos - Manic Miner Remake.jpg

The RGBtoHDMI (version for older machines) board arrived today and the Pi Zero for it arrived yesterday, 3D printed case printed. Think of this as a OSSC for older machines, when you don't wanna buy SCART cables for them all. This project up until now didn't add audio to the HDMI signal but just in the past month there is now an addon board for audio. Waiting on that for now…but until then, testing time.

    1 RGBtoHDMI.jpg

MacGyver'd cable for the Oric Atmos

    2 RGBtoHDMI cable mess.jpg

Boom! Prob more tinkering to do, but happy so far. More cable making needed :D

It's been a while since I had a new get but this arrived a few days ago. Prompted by The Rage posting about getting one in, never even crossed my mind! There's a 3 disc CD/DVD one that I may also pickup.

Glad to see RAGE still plugging along, often forget they’re there since they moved to that basement in Temple Bar.

Reacquired a SNES after selling mine off a few years ago after being short of cash.

Got one of the cheapest Chinesium Everdrive clones too.

Haven't actually tested anything yet but already have a Super Nintendo Switchless Region SuperCIC, uIGR & D4 Patch Kit on the way for it too from Consoles Unleashed.

I got curious about the address on that Terminator tape and looked it up on Google.

Looks like the Dawley family (I assume) transformed their video shop into a butchers at some point. It doesn't exist on Street View in 2017 so somewhere between 2016 and 2017 they went out of business.

It's a bit of a pivot from video rental to a butchers though, isn't it?

You've sent me down a rabbit hole now.

I found a video on youtube where someone's walking around Dawley High Street in 1981 with a video camera.

Here's a screen grab of 37 High Street as they pan around with their camera, can tell with the ramp outside. Unfortunately you can't see if it's a video shop or not (boo!)

Any of you guys ever try out the EZ Flash Omega from AliExpress? Meant to be one of the best GBA flash carts. Decided to try one out, less than 50 delivered so half the price of the everdrive.

Comes with a second shell to fit the DS.

    1000069855.jpg 1000069851.jpg

I had the SD ready to go in advance, 32GB so fits the full library for all regions and then loads of hacks and translations.

    1000069852.jpg

You can download an image pack so there's a little preview of each game.

    1000069853.jpg

    Works a treat!

Haha jaysus I'm having an evening of it.

About 15 years ago or so, the GBA SP in the photos fell and the hinge broke. I actually managed to fix it with glue and it's been holding since then.

Of course, this evening when I finally sit down with a lovely new flash cart - the hinge breaks! 😂

Time to look for a replacement shell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,927 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Ha, I was literally about to post next that I got the omega flash cart also 😂

Great little cart, take a good size SD card so can put full game sets for GBA, GB and GBC on there.

I turned off the images option as it was hard to read the game title on list format at yimes

I also replaced the screen the hispeedido LCD one. Outstanding. Eats the battery though

I noticed that alright when I started working my way through some hacks that don't have the artwork and you just have a big white square obscuring the titles. That's a bit annoying alright.

Where are you buying your SP parts? Anywhere decent in the EU?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,927 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Buying from AliExpress. Hispeedido have a store on there. Shipping is super quick all things considered.

Finally to put this absolutely random shite to bed.

I saw there was a 'Dawley Memories' private Facebook group. Thought that might have some photos of the old video shop. Only problem - I don't have a Facebook account.

After some fake Facebook account making, sweet talking the admins to get in and trawling through pages and pages of photographs - result!

    1000069955.png

Not sure what I achieved or what the point of any of that was, but there you go haha.
