Time to smarten up my MVS collection - these boxes from 'mini.box.guy' on eBay will certainly help!

    10 down; 3 to go.

That was a good shout because since owning mine from 2021 I've had the chassis fail TWICE at this stage. Those repairs aren't cheap when ordering in the professionals!

Enjoy it fellow Blast City owner! If you have any questions about it let me know!

Those neo mini boxes are fantastic, mine must be about 15 years old now and the spines are still super bright.

Great alternative to the expensive shock boxes. (And they flat pack too!)

These Neo Geo ports are really interesting, Cabal was done recently enough too.

First I've seen of actual MVS carts being made up though, very cool.

I think our friends on AliExpress jump on these ports to create real carts, great bunch of lads :D

Speaking of, I regularly see CPS1 & CPS2 boards, legitimate looking ones, on Ali, for nowhere near what they probably go for elsewhere. These have reviews, customer pictures etc….what gives? Fancy boots?

Yep those, and other like them. Pics show what appear to be legit A, B, & C CPS1 boards….but they can't be for that price.

Review from that AliExpress page doesn't sound glowing at the end…though, the buyer seems to have then used it as part of a 87 in 1 setup…and then the sound failed. Sound part might be an easy fix though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,117 ✭✭✭Inviere

Ah, so the B board is obviously bootlegged, the A board is Frankenstein'd, and the C board is original….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭tonyotonyo

The A-boards are the killer part, the sound sections are usually rubbish on these Chinese jobs, basically recycled. The quickest way to tell the difference at a glance are the heat sinks, or lack of them.

That said, some of them work well!

I got a few of those cps1.5 to cps1 conversion boards a few years ago. Once you do the console5 cps1 cap kit they are fine.

For the pfx crt, search Facebook for a French guy "Arcade DVK" he sells special remote boards for them that allows you enable the hidden service menu. Hopefully the bezel they gave you is the flat NOA-1502-03 and not the curved one. Enjoy your new cab dude!

    Amiga 1000!

    PXL_20250714_202531719.MP.jpg

I did it - I picked up what I think is my grail machine - an Amiga 1000 - PAL unit. Has a memory expansion in the front flap so its rocking an amazing 512k of RAM. Some cleaning up to do, that front OLED/display is for the floppy emulator currently installed - it will be replaced by an incoming orignial drive and then it will be popped into an external drive case. I've still to give the case and keyboard a scrub. It came with the original 1.3 1.1 Kickstart + Workbench disks - both now in a 3D printed disk holder.

    Tasteful mods planned which will all be reversible;

    • PiStorm - wil allow expanding of the RAM, booting different Kickstarts and a HDD image
    • RGBtoHDMI - will need to 3D print out a new back cover for a HDMI out, in two minds if I'll actually install this though I already have the extra board+PiZero board

    Very happy with it :)

I just want the joystick:) . God damn loved those things . Bullet proof..put them through hell in combat school and track and field

:) only problem is that we all moved over to using joypads or arcade quality joysticks so when you go back to a CompPro jobie, its a lot of work effort to attempt to be precise (well, as precise as you need to do be for 8/16bit machines)

The ArcadeR joystick remake looks great as a modern take

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,426 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

ArcadeRs are pretty decent. Have a couple around here, but they probably feel a bit 'loose' when coming from ZipSticks or even the CompPro sticks that came out a few years back.

Pushing up to jump can still be a bit of a lost art, but trying to play Kick Off 2 with anything other than something from back then or a modern take is a waste of time.

My fave though was the sureshot.

It had nice micro switches and was easily fixable I thought . They went forever

Whats the modern version like does anyone know ?

On a different matter...what's the story of you buy a PCB /part that says " untested/selling as is etc. "

Do you have recourse if ya get it and it doesn't work ? Just wondering as I've found a few parts that say similar and always see ads like it but have never bought anything .

I presume you do ..just because someone hasn't bothered their arse to test something to see if it actually works, or knows it doesn't work should not make a difference for a refund if they put that vague crap in the ad. Am I right ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

I bought a few bits off Yahoo Japan sold as "junk/untested" over the years.

Fairly certain you have no comeback, the price is typically lower reflecting the untested or un working state.

In my situation the three odd "junk" items were all genuinely untested and worked perfectly for me on receipt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah that's just madness . They can seek crap that doesn't work with a bullsh1t get out clause ..it wasn't tested !!

I'm sure many items will work but it's a gamble . Your effectively relying on the honesty of the seller if it's the case that there is no way you can get a refund. I can't believe that PayPal would not refund you for an item that does not work. Most items are about 30% off with this "get out clause " but what's the point

I can't believe it ..I'm actually going to buy something tomorrow and if it doesn't work I'll raise hell

Old codger is off to bed now ,after my night cap 😃

As a customer on eBay you always have the right to return and refund. It doesn't actually matter what the listing says.

I recently discovered this after selling an expensive PCB on that I'd noted as 'no returns' and the buyer was saying it wasn't working.

Basically, eBay will always refund the buyer. So if you're selling something as untested / not working and the buyer wants to return it, 100% accept their return as it's the only chance you'll get to get your item back.

If you don't, they'll eventually get refunded by eBay anyway, won't have to return your item and then you'll owe eBay the money and be out your item.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,971 ✭✭✭geotrig

if its listed on ebay as junk untested its nearly always doesn't work and seller know this !! yahoo is hit and miss before it was a safe gamble it has changed over the last few years where the items can and do tend to sometimes actually now be working. its always a risk buying untested.

That is so cool! Would look amazing with a 1084S monitor on top 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,433 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

True, will keep an eye out - I did have an offer but I didn't fancy a monitor being shipped cross many borders. Hopefully one pops up semi-local for a drive/pickup.

Via RGB/SCART it looks great on a Sony trini at the mo. Interesting to compare the composite output to RGB - some colours are completley off. I think its due to the method they used to create the signal rather than composite being subpar to begin with.
