Unfortunately, while I too own Ace Combat 7, it's a PS4 game and the VR content only works with the original PSVR.

In fact, none of the PSVR content works with the newer headset.

I would have hoped that they would have developed a compatibility layer that would just translate the PSVR2 position data into something the PSVR games coupe understand, but apparently not.

Bought a gorgeous tricked out 1chip PAL SNES on adverts. All the bells and whistles. Even been fully recapped.

Grey as the day it was born.

    PXL_20240806_174121292.jpg

Plugged it all in and then remembered that the fancy 50 euro scart cable I have for my Super Famicom won't work with it. Nooooo! Haha.

    Had to order another one!

Its actually an interesting comparison come to think of it.

Console on the left is the first release of the Super Famicom, was probably made circa 1990. In fact I think the particular model was imported here as a demonstration unit before the console was released in the west.

1chip on the right would have been sometime after 1995, so towards the end of the consoles life.

Seems they altered their plastic mix somewhat!

I need to take the piss out of my Super Famicom's shell some day too! The piss stained yellow that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,057 ✭✭✭Inviere

When I was 1chip shopping myself, I kinda felt a lot of them were quite close to their original colour...so either they did alter the mix, or the 1chips haven't yet begun their descent into urea'ville yet

Well I did the unthinkable today, something I've never done before - I bought an RF cable!

I saved an old childhood CRT from my grandparents that I used to play 2600, Megadrive and PS1 games on so really want to try to get it up and running for those consoles again.

Have PS1 RF modulator on the way. Ultimately I think I'll use my old VHS player as a modulator for it (it does RF out and has SCART in) but for now I just want to get anything at all hooked up to it (My house is devoid of RF!)

Thought new new RF cable arrived, opened the box:

    Totally forgot I ordered this!

    Next to the real one:

    PXL_20240928_142043320.jpg

Even came with an SD preloaded with games: (Strip Fighter 2???)

    PXL_20240928_142529633.jpg

Luckily everyone seems to have their clothes on so far

    PXL_20240928_142659138.jpg

I in no way condone buying these instead of the real ones but it's a handy backup to have.

Hard to believe it was so cheap!

Strip Fighter II could have generated even more revenue for Capcom if it existed! Sex sells.

Where could one procure strip fighter 2?

Nothing major, but one of those 'Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net' or whatever Pocket yokes dropped in the door this morning - happy with most of the Evercade stuff, but never saw one of the little Pocket yokes in the flesh.

Quite small, Atari-model, so has that wood grain front (which is thankfully not just a sticker), so will at least look great in its inevitable position on the shelf next to that classy Atari Decanter set, but feels decently put together with a bit of weight.

Give us an excuse to take the shrink wrap of a few recent Evercade pickups

Yes, mine came today. Totally forgot I ordered it. I don't normally open the box but I had to see what it looked like.

I quite like it, but will still probably pack it away and play my exp.

This guy landed yesterday, a bluetooth adapter for the Amiga A1200 (Think it'll also work on the A500?)

So far I've tried it out with an SFC30 8bitdo pad and it works brilliantly.

A cool feature is that it lets you scroll through all the different controller inputs with the start button on the pad.

Some games have different configurations for player 1, so if you boot a game and the controls don't work you just press start until it detects it.

Another cool feature is that it'll let you use your control pad as a mouse. (I don't have a bluetooth mouse for it as of yet so was using this to navigate, was a bit slow but it works)

All in all, very cool for 40 odd euro.

    PXL_20241021_165139066.jpg

Link to it here if anyone's interested (I went untracked rather than tracked shipping, reduced the cost significantly)

    https://cbmretro.fi/product/bluetooth-controller-adapter-for-a500-a1200/

Edit - just to note too, it's entirely plug and play and takes power through the Amiga controller ports. Some of the photos show it needing a USB cable to get power but it's not needed for an A1200 setup.

I picked up a PlayStation Net Yaroze kit a few years back but it was missing the serial cable/adapter and also the 'access card.' I since picked up the serial cable/adapter but was still on the hunt for the 'access card' since then…to only search on eBay and an item from delta-island.com popped up! They reverse engineered the card and recreated it :D yes, you can use a modded PS1 and a hacked Net Yaroze boot CD but whats the fun in that?! I also picked up their serial adapter to have some USB goodness.

Knight Lore for the Spectrum 48k - nice looking box type thingy for the machine. Believe Ultimate used the same for other systems at the time.

Well here's something really boring but it's actually a first.

    In the near quarter century I've owned an n64 (and I think I've had five or six of them), I've never had one of these;

    PXL_20241128_184842322.jpg PXL_20241128_184904290.jpg

Absolute bizarre realisation. Was trying to play Turok 2 the other day and couldn't save. Dawned on me that all these years id only been really playing first party games that all have saved batteries in them!

Good oul AliExpress, new memory cards for peanuts.

All this Turok 2 talk while I had time to kill in The Square this morning.

I love having carts despite Everdrives

Couple gets from earlier in the week

    Untitled Image

Upgrade for the Retrotink, but will be doing well to check it out this side of Xmas with everything going on right now, so may as well go under the tree. Might hook it up to a HDMI input though to test that side out first, but a complete overhaul will take time.

Polymega is still a thing, just about anyway, with them bringing out a couple physical releases - Karate Champ there has about 8 or so related titles from the original arcade all the way up to Fighters History, same with the Asteroids collection up to the Lynx release.

Wow, I've yet to see one in person but it definitely looks like they went all out on the build quality.

Be intrigued for your opinions re the difference in picture quality to the 5X when you get a chance to give it a go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,308 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Aye...Was delighted with the packaging of it as well, especially after seeing what one customer received a while back where the unit was rattling something inside and the sliding door was hanging off 😱

Comes in that box above but is completely enclosed in a form fitting air pocket so there's zero chance of an issue - well, other than the DHL label being half ripped off - but thankfully it made its way. Will try to hook it up to make sure it's working but will probably only get to try out some 1080p HDMI feed until I can properly get into the game room - hopefully give me a chance to check out some of the filters etc

My MVS NeoGeo 'Vortex' 161-in-1 cart arrived!

Hopefully will get time in the next week or so to adjust the screen, this cab and the other one need quite a bit of work

Is anyone else on desktop having issues with embedded images not displaying? This thread is riddled with it now for me, nothing but broken links showing (apart from people who used 3rd party image hosting as far as I can see)?

I wanted to write up a big thread today, but couldn't because no images would embed for me.

Using PC/Chrome, no issues with images - ad blocker gone wild maybe?

Sorted now, the image hosting domain used by Boards has been blocked for phishing over the last few days. I've added it to MB exclusion list, all working now

I've been on the lookout for a Raiden II arcade pop for a very long time. In fact I didn't even know 100% what they looked like as there aren't any pictures of them online. Random bits of Japanese cardboard to sit on arcade machines from the early 90s, not many seem to have survived.

These guys are a great Japanese shop for arcade art rarities, so I have been keeping an eye for a while. (with not much luck!)

    https://www.emporiumretrogamingshop.com/

Got an alert today to finally say they had one, not only Raiden II but Raiden DX as well!

Absolute Sophie's choice situation as I couldn't justify buying both (94 euro for Raiden II and 125 euro for DX).

Went with Raiden II in the end as I actually have the PCB and it's one of my favourite games.

Raiden II Pop.JPG Raiden II POP back.JPG

They do still have the DX pop available if anyone is interested in rare expensive Japanese cardboard.

Theres a lad on eBay Ireland selling official Metroid 3DS XL soft cases for a fiver. Bought one, lovely and snug.

    PXL_20250216_130432968.jpg

Then I realised my Analogue Pocket fits

    PXL_20250216_130531535~2.jpg

Which led me to buying four more

    PXL_20250218_174905658.jpg

I may have a problem haha!

I've been on the lookout for a working VCR for ages. Finally managed to nab one! A Daewoo from 2004. So its 20 years younger than my last one. Works 100% perfectly and is really minty. In fact the design of the yolk almost looks contemporary.

Originally it was to digitize some home movies but I've gone down a bit of a VHS buying rabbit hole...

Fairly sure this is some of the only Gamesmaster material officially released.

Hilariously, when I stuck it on, it was at the nudy bits!

    PXL_20250225_185854860.jpg

Edit - just to say, this is also another really cool way the Retrotink 5x can be used. It scales the composite video signal really well and with the OLED panel it pretty much looks like watching VHS on a CRT

The plan is to send the signal out of the 5X via HDMI to a capture card and start recording.

I've been down a VHS rabbit hole for a while now.

There was a huge charity shop in Waterford that used to sell electrical goods. I got 5-7 CRTs, 10+ VHS from there before it closed a few years ago. I still get the odd VHS when it comes up on marketplace locally etc but don't actively seek them out on eBay etc

Have a lovely Sony hooked up to my 2 big crts with the Hydra2.
