Confirmed out. If we don’t win now, we can stay at home for the rest of the championship. Clare are AI champions but Kelly and O’Donnell are head and shoulders their best players for the last 10 years.

Overplayed in the last bits of the 1st half and Clare getting back into it. Great crowd

    Beautiful win

Wasn't the best game and performance but we never gave up and kept on fighting when Clare were getting back into it

Free shot at Limerick next week now. The place will be rocking

What result in the Cork Tipp game do we want ?

good seconds half performance there and lots of the team really stood up.

Bennett , TDB , Kiely and barron especially.

Some smart hurling being played with less of the headless running into trouble we have seen in recent years.

Was worried at half time as was everyone im sure, but somehow playing into the wind suited them.

Clare, definitely seems to miss kelly badly, for the frees if nothing else, duggan had a great game.

Great result, lovely to get the win today, it will give the lads a massive boost going forward

I thought all along that Waterford would win today ; when Tony Kelly was ruled out, the result was inevitable. Limerick will be a different proposition though.

Wasn't too worried at half time, given the options off the bench.

Stephen Bennett is worth his weight in gold. Thought Darragh Lyons had a great first half.

Well done to the team that was a really solid performance and well done to Peter Queally and his management team. Thought they made the right changes when needed. Especially getting ball winners on in the second half.

Really tough ask to go again in 6 days but certainly a lot easier after a win and a good performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,517 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

well done today lads , fortress walsh park is well and truly up and running , queally is a really good man to have on the line too , got all the big calls right today especially in the halfback and full back lines

a few mumbles and groans over the penalty from our side of things but i dont think we were winning enough ball in the full forward line to really challenge late on

a lad sitting beside me today said we are a fair team if we can come down here and win without who we were missing , he was right but waterford are missing plenty themselves ,no excuses its a justified win well done

Brilliant win! Need to back it up this year now! Darragh Lyons emptied the tank big time today. Bennett unreal as usual and Jamie looking good too. Kiely and Fitz did well when they came on. Clare’s free taking was beyond awful which really helped us. The backs really did us proud today.

Shout out to the west end terrace! I think that’s the first time I ever remember it really feeling like a home game atmosphere. It was epic at times!

Releif to get that win. We owed Clare that one to be fair. When I heard Kelly was out I said we have to win this if we don’t time to pack it in.

in reality we’re only back where we were 12 months ago with one won from one it’s no use unless we go and back it up the next couple weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Jjjjjjjjbarry

And which one of ye ran on with the flag at the end? 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭914

Delighted with the win. For large parts we seemed a bit nervous or something, and the game itself seemed cagey from both sides.

In the second half that nervous seems to go away and you could see the lads growing in confidence, balls they were dropping in the first half they were holding in the second.

Jack Prender moving to midfield and the introduction of Kiely mad a difference.

Bennett very good as always, Nolan with some big saves, defensively very good throughout.

As someone already said, we are where we were last year, 2 points on the board, 3 games to qualify, it's in our own hands again.

What I wouldn't give for a win next week. Those early draws are going to make Munster extremely tight and 4 points I suspect would qualify you.

The place would go mental if we can beat Limerick next Saturday but it's a huge ask, they will not make the amount of errors Clare did today.

6 day turn around is tough and no reason why it couldn't be fixed for Next Sunday with only 2 Football finals on

The Tipperary game in a few weeks could be massive

Huge win although Clare look leggy for parts of that game. One would suspect the Cork game took alot out of them. Great to see Prunty back manning the square and his influence cannot be understated. Last year he was injured for Clare game and we shipped 4 goals. Kiely made a huge difference when he came on too and those reserves and more will be required for what I suspect will be an improved Limerick performance next Saturday but it's nice to be in the position we are in and back in the Munster conversation again. For Clare there will surely be a kick in them yet and fancy them to get something from last two remaining games.

i dont think its the turnaround its the players , we cant replace some of them and it appears that some of our praised allstars are not as genuine as the looked , cathal malone was overlooked last year for an all-star but david fitz got one despite shooting 9 wides from play in the all ireland final , conceding 3 points from play to his wing back marker and refusing to track him back the field in the munster final and his brutal work rate against cork last year in munster , produced another lacklustre performance when it was required again today but when you are getting away with murder who cares

from a waterford point of view ,i taught irlath daly and mark fitz were excellent in fairness

Some brilliant performances today. Kiely changed the game when he came on at half time and the defence really stood up across the board. Nolan made a few fine saves from memory. Bennet, for a fella who missed a few frees in the first half just turned it on and the two goals were the winning of the game. Very lucky to get the penalty in, but sometimes you deserve that slice of luck.

It's strange, we're in exactly the same situation as last year. Beat Tipp and that should be enough. Need to do what we should have done last year in Walsh Park, Thurles holds no fear so it's in our own hands. I'm looking at Limerick as a free shot, just can't see us getting anything with a 6 day turnaround. This is the one we had to win, and we did. Well done to the team!

Delighted for ye lads, Stephen Bennett is some warrior, after hearing his interview with Wooly Parkinson and what he's putting body through he's probably the non-Wexford player I've the most good will towards, Barron was excellent and your bench was massive, taught Peter Duggan was sensational too.

Ye have nothing guaranteed at this stage but I will make 1 point, taught some of the comments here after the Carlow game were crazy, it was a poor result but it was the 1st Sunday of February and ye were down to bare bones with injuries, things are usually not as bad as they seem just like there's usually no need to get completely carried away after the good days.

Fair play to waterford. Good solid performance with Bennett, barron in particular standing out. Clare never got into any flow despite a few excellent individuals like Duggan Taylor and reidy.

Tough for waterford having to play limerick next Saturday.

Tough for Limerick now as well. Waterford looked really good yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

why is this 6 day turnaround even a thing? I know there’s nothing can be done now and the lads just have to get on with it but surely this needs to be looked at next year. It’s absolutely cruel on lads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 387 ✭✭JD. 60

Nicky English article in today's IT saying Waterford are no pushover in Munster ; some other interesting comments too but I'm unable to copy & paste it here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭914

I presume it's due to the football Munster final.

I don't see an issue playing on Sunday but I'm sure the GAA will say something about not taking away from the football finals or the risk or counties being in the munster final and also playing hurling the same day as at the start of the year they wouldn't have known who was going to be in the Munster final.

The team physio and Waterford landscapes will have a busy week.

Good win yesterday a few things on it ,
Firstly a lot of the team played well, Bennett ( our one star forward) , Barron, Fitzgerald, Nolan and Lyon’s in the first half according to the program his first points since 2020.
The fact that the best hurler in the country was absent was a huge plus ,
The very soft penalty we got.
Clares off form in frees and the second goal we got which held in the wind..
