Meath have no excuses set up for them, should be tuned in after Offaly game. Dublin aren’t didn’t have to raise any gears v Wicklow. But I still view Louth as the closest “danger” in Leinster.

I don’t think Meath have the right mindset, to be honest. Even if Meath did get close-ish we know they will choke.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

I hope you are right, but if they have one of those days were things click, we could be in trouble. There was an early 00s Laois/westmeath feel to some of the points Wicklow took. I remember in those games, those teams basically scored nearly every chance they had and beat the dubs.

I really don’t know what level we are at but the Wicklow game had me concerned, even if there was loads of debuts. The kick outs in particular are a massive problem. Not sure if it’s the rule changes but we look way off it and could end up like 00s dubs where we always lose close games against good teams. Ironic considering how you feel meath will bottle it.

I don’t think it is 00’s levels yet. Midfield and lack of consistent 2 pointers is worrying, no argument there.

But the Dublin forwards now are levels above to what was there in the 00’s. It was only Dessie and Alan B. who had real “spark”. Jayo turned into a linkman.
The other difference for me is with Westmeath/Laois back then they were told not to respect the Dubs by their respective Kerry managers. And have a go, rattle into Dublin.
But to me Meath are still “scared” and “scarred” by Dublin. Plus have that weight of pressure on their shoulders when the Dublin jerseys appear.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

The 00s teams were nearly men. Whelan could be the best on his day. Shane Ryan had an engine like no over. Used to watch the dubs train in Parnell and never understood why they didn’t learn to let Ryan run through teams (like jack mc) and have a free player always ready to get a pass from Ryan.

We regularly lost to the champs by only a point or a red card etc. I just see a lot to be concerned about in midfield. But for Con and Kilkenny i dont think we are great to front. Gave Wicklow plenty of chances and our GKs are a big problem.

To be fair, it just feels a lot closer to 00s, prob cause we were so far ahead for a decade. Hope im wrong but I’d be worried Leinster could be the undoing of us and we hit the QFs with no meaningful idea of where we are at. Guess it’s been like that last few years so nothing new. I’m rambling.

Dublin U20s beaten by Louth tonight and have now gone five straight years without winning a Leinster U20 title. A concern for the senior team in the years ahead?

With Easter and all that I forgot to purchase tickets for Sunday via my season ticket and not able to do now but can still pick up tickets on ticketmaster. Any point in ringing them up to try and see if they will put the tickets under my account or just forget about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

You should try contacting them. They might be able to add a ticket via invoice to your gaa account.

My ticket is going spare if you're interested? PM if so, Revolut and transfer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,722 ✭✭✭Trampas

Thanks. Ive ordered tickets just now to have them and I’ll drop them a mail tomorrow. I’ll miss the Leinster final and all Ireland semi final if they get to both of them. So one of them was my skip week if I could get someone I know to use them

Heading down on Sunday and for the first time in years I would have a slight doubt about the outcome. We obviously need a big step up in performance from the last day .Meath seem handy enough with the two pointers something we have not mastered yet by the looks of things .I do expect this game to be competitive well into the second half so just have to hope we can raise it enough to come through .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

According to the Leinster council not much of a clamour for tickets expected 10/12k in Portlaoise. About 8k in Tullamore.
I thought there would be more than that in Portlaoise, Dubs like novelty of travel “abroad”. And I thought the Meath fans would be be worried they could miss a Meath win v Dublin.

To be honest I am not too worried about the match. Dublin would have to really make a balls of it to lose. I would predict Dublin by 6-8 at least. Meath will need a fair few two pointers.

If it is a dirty day, it could be fairly close.

Edit - no chance of dirty day, weather forecast said nice weather due

I expect us to prevail but the manner of the win if it happens should give as indication of where we can go .I would have expected a decent enough Meath crowd so am surprised the expected crowd is around 12k.Its time for us to step up now no more experiments get our team together now and who knows what happens.

How much does the stadium hold ? I’d of expected a big demand. As others said like many , I enjoy travelling for championship. Brings back nostalgia of the good old days in the late 80s and 90s for me.

Also, I do think we look very vulnerable and could easily be caught on the wrong day. Kick outs are awful, not sure our forward line clicks (over reliance on Kilkenny and Con) and we aren’t benefiting in midfield with the new rules.

Haven’t a clue where meath are at, but Dublin were awful against Wicklow. I was at the game and there was alit of concerning things even if there were lots of debuts. On another day Wicklow could have easily been within a couple of point of us. That’s a division 4 team, not somebody even languishing in division 3 or 2.

I hope it’s a tough game , as I really miss the rivalry. I don’t want to lose but there is a perverse part of me that would like to see Leinster open up more and for other teams to get stronger. The hold we have had on the province isn’t even good for our development either.

Andybody any parking tips for portlaois? I live near Drogheda so thinking of cross country it, I just hate sitting in traffic jams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

27,000 capacity in Portlaoise I think.

Re parking found this link from 2023 when Dublin last were due in Portlaoise. I assume recommendations similar this time around.

    https://www.laoistoday.ie/2023/04/23/traffic-restrictions-around-portlaoise-as-the-dubs-come-to-town/

    Parking

    • Limited parking but parking available at Laois Centre of excellence adjacent to Laois Hire O Moore park
    • Patrons are advised to arrive at least one hour before throw-in to allow for parking and adequate time to walk to the stadium
    • Parking within the immediate area of O’Moore Park is limited in public places (Wheelchair access with wheelchair permit only)
    • Weather permitting parking will be available on Pitch 3 at O’Moore Park Centre of Excellence with access from Father Brown Road (entrance to O’Moore Park at An Post SDS Portlaoise); exit will be onto the Abbeyleix Road from the Centre of Excellence only.
    • Father Brown Road closed to all traffic between Abbeyleix Roundabout and An Post SDS, for the purpose of patron safety.

Patrons are advised that parking is available at:

    • Laois Hire O Moore Park
    • Parkside Shopping Centre
    • Midway Hotel M7 Roundabout
    • The Kyle Shopping Centre
    • Lyster Square Shopping Mall
    • Midlands Park Hotel Multi-Storey
    • Dunne’s Stores Mountmellick Road
    • Lismard Business Park
    • Clonminam Business Park
    • Kea-Lew Business Park
    • Portlaoise Retail Park
    • Laois shopping centre

Looks like someone sprayed it with something, looks awful.

    Hurlers are looking porous.

Great win that for the hurlers.

Antrim away, Kilkenny away, Galway home the last three. I think the order of the fixtures has been good for Dublin. Wexford have Galway next.

Great win, but the performances haven't been great yet, to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭corny

I'd like to see what the chance conversion rate was for Dublin. I'd say it was exceptional. Very few wides or wasted chances.

Don't mess up against Antrim please!

Notwithstanding the wind, poor all round by Dublin, being killed on their kick outs. 11 mins before Dublin scored.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

not winning any ball. Meath playing high energy. Three Meath two pointers 26 gone

It's shocking how poor Dublin are. Kickouts poor, non existent in midfield, sloppy upfront- not a single Dublin player playing well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Dublin clearly bored to bits with this competition. They should have stopped talking it seriously many years ago but better late then ever.

Will the half time talk make them arsed?

Dublin may well win this but they look a right rabble against a very average team
