Yeah they were a definite concern for me. I test drove the car and they were still alarming at the end of the drive.

    Think I'll take your advice

Was reading up about this on an ID3 FB group. Apparently the sensors are very vulnerable to chips from stones. So much so that VW are very difficult to get to sort of theres any sign of an imperfection on the surface of the sensor, even if in warranty. Repair costs via VW are pretty high, but its apparently an easy enough job if you order them yourself and fit them.

If you're interested in the car just ensure they all work before you drive away.

Im just worried that sensors on 3 of the 4 sides aren't working.

My interest in the car has dropped a lot.

Im not sure why dealers don't get these things sorted? At the end of the day they will have to before someone buys the car off them anyway, and by having them faulty on a test drive runs the risk of putting off potential buyers, like it has for me. They can promise the moon and the stars but until everything is working they won't get a sale. Noone would be stupid enough to drive off the lot with those errors.

The car was a long round trip to see for me yesterday, and I would now be very reluctant to continue my interest with assurances over the phone.

Its quite common. I wouldnt worry about it. Get them to replace them and just check it before handing over any money.

Put another way, if you buy an ID3 that doesnt have the error you are just as likely to have a parking sensor failure down the road…. probably more likely actually because you will at least have new sensors in this one!

Yeah of course an error could happen the day after I bought the car, but I was just a little shocked to see sensors out on 3 sides of the car. The chances of a stone hitting them on all 3 sides or them all going faulty at same time would be slim you'd think.

The whole "stones hitting them" is just a line they use to refuse warranty. Its quite common that they just naturally fail. One went on mine before I traded it in. Stones can, of course, break them too but unlikely if its a rear sensor.

I'd say they have just failed one at a time and the previous owner just never bothered to fix them. The dealer will need to replace them before selling to you and it will be as new in that respect, so I would not be put off by that specific issue if the car is otherwise a good deal and in good condition.

if they said they’ll replace them It shouldn’t be an issue. If the car is dirty they may be blocked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,656 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Well they said they'd be sorted, you know what that mean with a used car dealership.

It was incredibly wet yesterday but car wasn't dirty. Just think it's shoddy of them to try to sell a car with so many sensors alarming out.

If the sensors had been OK, I would have been very close to a deal but it's a 4hr round trip away from me to the car, so I'm wary of doing any deal over the phone now, to arrive then later to collect the car and still have issues. Salesmen will tell you anything to get your money.

heavy rain does affect them Just ask Google.

Andrade has to give at least a 6 month warranty. So they’ll want them working or they begin to cost them

Is the sensor issue still present post facelift?

I've a pre facelift ID3 and I've never had any issues with sensors. I'd say there's many more like me.

I had the stone damage thing with my local dealer recently. None of the sensors at the front worked, which led me to believe there was an issue with all of them. In my head, all the sensors are individual, so if one goes the rest should stay working. Maybe that's not the case.

Anyways, one sensor had a tiny mark on it. Wouldn't cover it under warranty. A bit of back and forth, and it got swapped out without charge.

Now, whether that one sensor caused them all to stop working, I don't know. Or once that installed the new one, they had to redo the software and they all worked again, I dunno.

OTR but it’s my error. I’m looking at the business pricing. No grants there.

I am thank you! Thank god for that. Know someone buying one this week, well, hopes to!

That’s right. Attaching the details here as there are usually people looking for them at a later stage.

3 of these arrived on my road in the last few weeks.

A brand new black GTX which looks great and 2 used ones from 21 and 22, a red and a turquoise with black roofs, high enough spec ones or at least upgraded wheels they both look really well.

I still can't get my head around the Pro S and Pro S plus being dearer than GTX. Less power, slightly smaller battery.

I also can't get my head around the GTX having higher range, maybe it's upgraded motors and battery technology but I doubt it really has higher range in everyday use.

It has the new much more efficient drive train that's already in the ID4/5, Enyaq etc. that and a newer battery account for a lot.

In fact the 59kWh battery is also relatively new, but with the older motor. They seem to have not homologated it as they quote peak charging at 120kW still, despite a few reviews showing up to 145kW. I suspect range is slightly up there too.

Ahh quiet normal, it took 3 weeks for my GTX to come from the port.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,326 ✭✭✭✭KCross

@Liam2021 any lights coming on in your GTX?

Last week or two mine is throwing a lot of warnings and sometimes don’t go away until the next drive. Things like puncture, collision avoidance etc (which also stops ACC working).

Outside temp gauge also doing mad things like showing proper temp but then going to -40C and starts driving hot air in! 🤣

trip to the dealer on the cards but interested to hear if others have experienced it with recent ID cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

Haven't seen anything like that on mine. Hope you get yours sorted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Liam2021

No nothing like that on mine, hope you get sorted.

I can't believe there are no rear speakers in the ID3 I recently purchased.

Second facelift due to be announced by EOY with orders opening in 2026.

Don't talk to me. Couldn't believe it when we got ours. And the grills are still in the door cards too!

That, and the lack of backlighting of the button on the dash, properly piss me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,656 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Very poor all round from VW, I mean how much extra would it have cost to stick a couple of speakers in?

I have owned cars since the 90s, and this is the 1st NOT to have speakers in the rear. In 2025 too!

I think the criticism of the lack of rear speakers (like the criticism of the lack of backlighting on the heating and the haptic controls on the steering wheel) is overblown. I had a 2022 ID.3 Business that had only front speakers. I now have an ID.3 GTX Performance Plus with Harmon Kardon 8+1 sound system. To be sure, the latter sounds better. But with most settings it still sounds like it's just coming from the front. And for those settings (Surround) where, from the front seats sound is audibly coming from the back, it often sounds weird: like why would a piano seem to be situated behind me?

I think music is best listened to in stereo, with a sound stage. And the sound stage should be in front of where one is seated. Rear speakers don't really fit with that.

Granted if rear passengers want to hear music (or front passengers want to drown the rear passengers out 😁), they are useful.
