picked our GTX performance plus up this evening (ordered end Nov). Haven’t had a chance to drive it beyond the (slow) drive back from the dealership. First impressions are good, infotainment seems very snappy. It was set in comfort mode so will play around with that a bit over the weekend to see how it handles but ride seemed smooth in comfort.

End of November?!? Did you blackmail someone at Volkswagen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,326 ✭✭✭✭KCross

I'd say any ordered in 2024 are in the country by now.. its just a case of how quickly the dealer got delivery of it from Dublin. Mine was in Dublin a few weeks ago but only getting it now, so there is probably a whole bunch ready for delivery just depends on the dealer.

    Whats your dealer telling you?

I had something similar happen with a new car a few years ago, Jan delivery. It was in the port but didn’t get to the dealer for 4 weeks - the reason given was that the garage only had one nine-car transporter, who could make a max of 2 trips daily before hitting their driving limit :)

What spec / colour etc did you go for?

    Well wear with it!

Best of luck with it, put up a few pics when you can

You wouldn't believe how buried cars can be after coming off the ship. I used to work down there years ago. Cars are parked in huge lines tightly so if your car is near the start of any of these lines it will be a good while till whatever truck drive gets to load it. In some areas where they are parked there is access from both ends but this is rarer.

The other likelihood is they could have damaged a brand new car in transit and had to repaint the side of it or whatever. No customer is going to be told that though.

few photos, really pleased with the colour which definitely suits the car. No options other than the black alloys which was a no cost option.

best of luck with it. I love that grey on them. I still miss mine.

Nice, what were you coming from and how do you find it so far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

Finally have the order confirmed. Told there is a 12 week lead time. Hopefully a bit longer than that to get me closer to the end of my current pcp.

for those of you getting an id.3 - is it a facelift or new model etc or just bigger battery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭Tech_Head

ID 3 Pro 58kw to ID 3 GTX Performance 79kw. It’s a more powerful motor that’s more efficient also and comes with lots of goodies that aren’t on mine.
    Faster charging
    Power 150->240 (204bhp to 326bhp)
    Wheels 18->20 with performance tyres
    ”Improved” interior lighting
    Heads up display
    10-12.9” screen with OS 5.0+ vs 3.7
Sport style electric memory seats w/ lumbar support
    Speakers 2 vs 8.1
    Adaptive chassis control
    Park assist plus
    Progressive Sport steering
    Matrix LED lights
    Dynamic indicators
    Rear privacy glass

It just makes sense to me to move from the tesla to this. The size is big enough for me and it has a hatch. The spec, performance and comfort looks to be better. Visually to me it looks better as well in high spec.

My only worries are they haven't really fixed the software stuff although all reports say it's much better now. This to me is the biggest risk from making the move. The tech in cars is so important now that I really don't want some buggy experience on a new car I've paid so much for. Would ruin the whole thing for me. I've not had any gripes with the tesla other than auto wipers and the seats sometimes forget where they should be. Also I believe the tesla app still works a lot better.

Nitpicking but in the above post it says it has a 12 inch screen where it is 12.9 so basically 13. That is a help when coming from the bigger tesla screen. Never had a problem with that being the only screen in the car.

I can see myself getting coverted to a hud as a must have after doing the same with heated seats, then heated steering wheel, auto pilot and then adaptive high beams. Those have all become something I look for in a new car. All are standard in the gtx pp other than auto pilot which in vw terms is iq drive. I added it and it is said to be better so looking forward to trying it.

Only other thing I will lose out on as far as I can remember is efficiency. From all I've looked at I won't get that much more out of the bigger battery and will have to use more electricity at the same time.

The Tesla infotainment is better, no doubt.

However, the software issues that you will hear about in every second youtube video are from the original ID.3 cars and the bad press has basically stuck. The software issues back then have long since been resolved. Any ID car on v3.2+ is stable…. but it wont match what you have in a Tesla in terms of features.

I've not had any gripes with the tesla other than auto wipers and the seats sometimes forget where they should be.

Indeed. Tesla software is far from perfect outside the infotainment. The VW beats it hands down in terms of its automation around wipers, lights and travel assist.

Also I believe the tesla app still works a lot better.

Tesla app is better alright but I dont think it matters that much really in terms of enjoying the car. The VW app gives you the basics of stop/start charging, SoC, timers, location, remote heating. Not much else. Its fine though.

Only other thing I will lose out on as far as I can remember is efficiency. From all I've looked at I won't get that much more out of the bigger battery and will have to use more electricity at the same time.

The ID.3 is quite an efficient car to begin with and the GTX is supposed to be more efficient so I dont think you'll see a huge difference in efficiency to be honest.

As a anecdote…. On my 2020 ID.3 I drove from Cork-Waterford and back recently (all N roads) and it averaged 14.8kWh/100km. I dont think the Tesla would be significantly better than that.

Driving Cork-Dublin at motorway speeds it would be about 20kWh/100km. Tesla would be better there, but again not massively better.

It will be interesting to see how much more efficient the GTX is

In what way is the tesla screen better if the vw one now works well now? Does it predict range badly? I'm very confident in the tesla ones no matter what time of year and I leave the tyres under inflated so I'm not sure how it is calculating range, a lot of the time I drive on the motorway under 100 but then will go cross country at the speed limit or a bit over. It's only ever a few % out in the calculation so never get range anxiety.

The app sounds like it can do all I need to do. Couldn't care less about tesla gimmicks but did hear the vw one is slower to connect and sometimes doesn't connect. No deal breaker for me but thought it was worth bringing up.

Do you all use the native stuff or android auto/carplay day to day? Having the option seems like a plus point but I've only ever used them on rentals for a short period.

Android auto for me for maps, music, podcasts, WhatsApp voice messaging, phone calls....

Obviously you've to interact with native software for settings etc

If vw app is like the cupra one, yes it's slow and inconsistent to connect. But has a few nice features.

When using google maps will it put in charging stops if needed and show how many % you need to charge to get to the destination?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,449 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

I've never done that but this link below says it can, I dont publicly charge very often and usually just make a plan in my head myself if I know I will be. I must set a destination outside of cars range later and see what it does.

I do know you have to set Google maps to EV mode for these features to be activated

What you're referencing is Android Automotive, as the base infotainment system as in the Polestar and Renault cars. Android Auto is running a version of your phone's interface and doesnt have access to the battery percentage information. Google touted a new EV routing / charge stop planning features last year for Maps but it still hasnt rolled out.

wireless Apple CarPlay in VW’s is the only way to go - it doesn’t matter how good the underlying VW ICE is, you only see it if you need to change the AC.

I'd love to buy a ID3 gtxp some day. The only thing I dislike about VW at the moment is the poor warranty terms compared to BYD, Kia, Hyundai or Toyota. I'm sure I'll be able to ignore that when the time comes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭✭sk8board

well it’s really just comparing good and great.

You don’t have to go too far back to find most warranties being limited to 2 years. Warranties cost manufacturers dearly, and any changes to them tend to be to drive sales, and it usually works.

I’m sure there are some 6 year old Hyundais that need warranty work and within the 7 year warranty

We're off the ground… GTX Performance Plus delivered! 🍾

    Img1.jpeg Img2.jpg Img3.jpg

All good so far. I really like the color, it not your typical bright red, it seems to give off different shades depending on the angle.

Interior is a massive improvement to my 2020 ID.3. Not much hard plastic, seats are very good.

Need some more back road driving to get a better feel for the drive and suspension etc.

Nice, mine should look like that too. Is it the same red as the previous ID3s?

Very jealous of these excellently priced GTXs. I got ripped on a 231 ID3, paid about 48k for it. Can only imagine what they'll offer for it next year

Should be. Colour name is the same (King's Red). I'm trading in my current king's red ID.3 for a new king's red GTX (which I'm not getting for another couple of weeks), so I'll let you know.
