Has anyone visited DON GREGORIO on Washington Street yet?

Fresh pasta… the reviews seem a bit mixed.

    market Lane Thursday night

Flawless in every way - food, ambiance and service..

I wish other restaurants in the city would follow suit!

That chicken dish looks literally thrown together. Like they grabbed each thing from a old Hellman's mayonnaise bucket with one hand and just fecked it onto the plate. The same type of bucket one's grandad would store turf in in the shed.

I'm sure it tasted good though. Have had a few meself.

Spice in Carrigaline announced last week that they would have to close and it was their final week, but today they have come out and said that due to massive support and some other factors going their way (not sure what these could be), they have found a way to remain open.

And to answer my own question… not too impressed.

The (homemade) pasta was tough and tasteless, and the sauce needed a bit of help.

I've never had guanciale before, granted, but i found the ham here tough, and too gammony, for my taste anyway, if that makes sense. But there wasn't too much.

    Fettuccini Amatriciana. EUR14

    No extra cheese offered.

Yeah, a friend went and wasn't too impressed. Said the sauces were fine but that the pasta was awful - wallpaper paste was mentioned.

    Went to Nosh 19….again!

Still love it. Plenty of more stuff to try. Ask for the translated Chinese menu.

Goldie is Ireland's no. 1 restaurant according to the Irish Times top 100 for 2025. A lot of us won't be surprised by this

@the beer revolu do I have to ring to book Nosh19?or can I just show up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,160 ✭✭✭✭the beer revolu

We've just shown up. It's pretty big but I've always been there at off peak times.

Great thanks, heading during the week so should be fine

    Another +1 for Nosh19.

I really wanted to be adventurous but I was starving by the time I got there so went with the Hunan beef. Was lovely.

My friends had the Satay hot pot, roasted duck and a Pho, all really enjoyed it. Large enough portions too.

Had never gone in to Nash19. Didnt realise the place is so big

Only been to Nosh19 once and it was great. Really interesting menu and the staff are willing to explain everything.

Where's the cheapest breakfast or brunch in the city now that Witherspoon's is gone?

Does anywhere do an Irish breakfast or eggs Benedict for under a tenner?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,997 ✭✭✭✭Water John

I'd say Dunnes at the Bandon roundabout is your best bet for a cheap fry.

I'd say you'd find it very hard to find somewhere to do it for under €10. Most eggs Benedict are €14+ anywhere now.

    Maybe Tony's bistro?

Went to Golden Elephant in town yesterday for a bit of dinner.

I thought it was only alright. A minced chicken basil dish was way too salty (as in l left still feeling hungry but didn't finish this dish) . Papaya salad wasn't much better, no subtitles at all - just sugar acid and salt. Heavy handed with the fish sauce, too.

If I had made either of those dishes at home, I wouldn't be particularly thrilled with myself.

Ingredients were good and fresh, there just seemed to be a lack of attention to detail. Prices would be fine if the cooking was a bit better.

Wasn't crazy about the ordering on your phone system but, again, I'd put up with that if the food was a bit better.

Our server was really very pleasant and enthusiastic. She said she'd bring our feedback to the kitchen but no communication came back.

The Thai food we had in Athlone a few months ago was much better, we both thought.

I wouldn't say it's bad - just your average Thai restaurant standard for Ireland.

Edit : forgot to say that it wasn't spicy at all - I mean could hardly detect chilli at all. And we upgraded the spice to +1 teaspoon chilli (1/2 teaspoon is the default). It seems if you want it any way spicy, you need to pay extra.

Further edit : the owner called me to discuss the issues and offer me a voucher to the value of the meal (and strongly hinting that I might take down the 3* Google review - same review as what's here). Apparently it made the Thai chef cry, he was devastated. I did take down the review but I'm not sure that I want to go back in the circumstances.
