It shows you what a joke the whole thing is. He beat Lopes and yet is ranked lower than him.

The man is unbeaten. It's a complete joke that he has to face somebody whose ranked no.9.

Holloway just got his shot and I agree that Volkanovski deserves his opportunity but he should be next after that ahead of Lopes, Rodriguez and Ortega and everybody else.

I'm shocked that Dana didn't take the opportunity in Trump's victory speech to remind everyone that Jones is the goat. It feels like if the UFC says it enough, it makes it true. Good to see he's finally cleared his most recent legal case just ahead of his return

Jones is the P4P no.1. He hasn't lost since 2009, his only loss. He was out of the ring for quite a while but came back and finished a guy in round 1 who'd never been stopped before.

And the loss was for a 12 to 6 elbow which are now legal. And the fight was seconds from being called anyway. He'd already won it.

You could argue the toss vs Reyes and Santos. I think the only other time he was in trouble was with the armbar vs Vitor.

Probably the most surreal thing in a match was that armbar. I don't think there's anybody else on the planet that would have survived that.

Gustafsson fight was the closest he came to losing was it not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 770 ✭✭✭barryribs

He kept the skills honed by beating women while he was out of the ring. The goat; who cancels a card because he doesn't fancy a fight against a blown up middleweight and pisses hot as often as the aforementioned middleweight.

Nice to see a certain MAGA clown taking a hiding

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,272 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

He showed he has a chin tbf, but I suspect his cardio is gone and without that he has absolutely nothing.

I think he has plenty of money , but he spent to much of his prime years been inactive. I don't know where he can go now, the serious prospects would hurt him, maybe he could weasel a rematch v Masvidal next year?

He does seem keen on Thompson, but I actually think Thompson wins that fight, he was much more competitive v Buckley than Mr Maga a few months ago.

It was a fun enough fight night tbf.

So Bryce Mitchell finally went full…… well, you know!

"The 30-year-old said: ‘I honestly think Hitler was a good guy, based upon my own research, not my public education and indoctrination.

‘He fought for his country, he wanted to purify it by kicking the greedy Jews out who were destroying his country and turning them all into gays.’

That Emmett punch must have loosened the majority of his brain cells.

    Anyone have any insight?

Gallagher is a busted flush, he was built up to superstardom by Bellator and believed his own hype. Seems he fell out with Kavanagh (Who hasn't I suppose) and is a bit lost since.

Anyway, Ireland has a double champ in Will Fleury.

Pereira looked very poor Saturday. No energy/passion or commitment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,987 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Just a load of calf kicks.

TBF, MMA in general is poor at the moment. UFC is the hugging championship now. Fence control etc. Danas face and body language when he saw the scorecard said it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,891 ✭✭✭Homelander

Was disappointed at how poor the main card turned out to be. Green v Ruffy was a great KO but over before it even began, the only great fight was Justin and Fizev.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,272 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Ank has absolutely zero charisma. The company is still making money, but I do wonder when the lack of stars catch up with them .

Pereira was very timid on Saturday.

The main card itself was a bit meh. I enjoyed the co main event, but I do think Justin is probably past his best , while Fiziev clearly not up to speed after the long injury. The ladies match was an absolute disgrace and had no business on the main section of the card.

I don't mind some female MMA fighters but overall WMMA just doesn't have any depth. Zhang, Rose, Blanchfield, Shevo, Andrade and one or two others I enjoy watching but outside them its boring fights which always go the distance and suck the life out of the card. I hope they sign the PFL lass Ditcheva ASAP , she looks like a killer.

Yeah I do think they need to sign some killers. Start giving performance of the night bonuses for more KOs etc.

PPV business is way down. Theyre killing it with ticket sales because theyre charging so much.

i miss the days when cards were loaded like this and there was a genuine excitement brewing to watch all 8-9 fights.. Id catch the Countdown shows and watch the weigh ins to see what was going on.

The organization/brand is a shadow of its former self. fight cards are saturated, too many uninspiring matchups, lack of interesting characters, fights in the APEX with no atmosphere , Trumps involvement has made me lost interest in 80% of the cards they usually put on these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,446 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Also used to be the case that the Fight Night cards would have some decent scraps, with headliners being big names, #1 contender fights, sometimes title fights themselves.

These days there's a card almost every week. Cards full of Contender Series nobodies and barely any ranked fighters at all.

Emmet v Murphy at the Apex? Cool. Might watch on Fight Pass during the week but won't be losing any sleep!

UFC 312 was in Feb. Two title fights at the top of the card. However, and correct me if i'm wrong, but the rest of the card didn't feature a single ranked fighter. From top to bottom!

The only fight that interests me there is Pitbull Vs Rodriguez just to see what level Pitbull is at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,272 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

The Trump thing is a fair point. I know some will say "it be a different tune if it was Biden, Harris etc" ,,,nope it wouldn't, I don't want sporting events to feel like a political rally ffs .

The Apex cards I watch because I work a lot of Saturday nights, but they are absolute torture, just randoms fighting with nothing at stake. You may get an interesting looking main event as we did last week, but despite having Josh Emmett in the ring, Murphy won by tedium. He fought the fight he needed to aye, but as a spectator not enjoyable.

Their was another fight where a fella won with 4 significant strikes which went the distance 😀

Ultimately because the UFC have guaranteed money from Epsn and are probably going to get a big Netflix contract they don't gave to try. You will get some good PPV'S and some sneaky fight night bangers but its very much diminishing returns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

I'm not sold on how big or easy their next contract will be. Seems to be universal acceptance that the product is dogshit at the minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,843 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

It's gone to the dogs. Weili Zhang and Jon Jones are the only two that interest me now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 464 ✭✭Petermc83

the characters are gone from the sport..

the cowboy cerrones, rampage, chuck. Etc. miss it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,987 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

The issue I guess is that they all start doing MMA now. As opposed to boxing or wrestling etc and then into MMA.

    Become very sterile.

Paddy v Chandler is an interesting match up. If Chandler wins he'll call.out McGregor again.
