Edwards must have the longest win streak in the UFC of current fighters I'd imagine. He was lucky in the first fight but did well in the second one.

If we are underestimating Leon are we wrong to think Usman is finished?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,105 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

If Volk wins I think a trilogy will happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭hawaii501

I do think Leon is very good and underrated(gets no real credit).

I just maybe think the difference between both fights for Usman could suggest he's on deteriorating and he is getting older unless he had an injury for that fight? Also think khamzat is a beast too and will have the size advantage.

I know volk is same age(I think) but he seems to be getting better with age.

Volk is just on a different level tactically to anybody I've ever seen. He fights as he needs to against every opponent. If he needs to keep you on the cage he does that, if he needs to grab you in the middle of the cage he does that, grapple or box he just has it off perfectly for each opponent. The exception to that was Makhachev but he was very close to doing it in that fight.

And the fairly big strawweight misses weight.

    116.6 lbs.

Jones out of the title fight with Stipe, 8 months out with this injury. I'm looking forward to his new post-USADA physique

Credit to Francis for such a fine showing last night. I didn't expect much but proved very wrong. He can do what he wants now, make some easy millions in the PFL and get some more big boxing fights.

Dana dared him to walk away and it blew up in his face!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,555 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He's a great guy too. He's not all about himself. Part of that PFL contract is that all his opponents get a minimum $2 million to fight him.

He is going to get some big names and big paydays in boxing. Everybody wants to see him fight big names now. Any contender has the opportunity to make a big purse by fighting him.

I thought he looked like a lad who never boxed , the fight was a stinker ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭US3

Yep you'd swear Francis fought like prime Mike Tyson the way most MMA journalist twitter pages are goin. It was an absolute **** show. Neither deserved their hand raised

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,555 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

He fought an unbeaten fighter and put him on the seat of his pants.

It wasn't the greatest fight ever by any stretch but the fact he went the distance when everybody predicted he'd be gassed after five rounds max showed he has a future in a boxing ring.

He's getting a lot of deserved credit for going in with the lineal champ and for going the distance in a really close fight, his first boxing fight.

How on earth anybody thinks this is minor news is beyond me.

As Eagle Eye says, it's not that people are saying he's the GOAT, it's that he was being painted as a "Novice" and given absolutely no hope of beating who hyperbole-throwing journalists sometimes claim to be the best HW of his generation, the unbeaten lineal champion of the world and he came very very closse to beating him. In fact, one judge counted him as the winner.

Ngannou was 13/1 right before the fight.

If the fight was a sh*t show, then it's the fault of the actual boxer, not the guy who came in having never had a pro-boxing bout before.

Tyson should have been able to roll off the couch and beat Ngannou.

It doesn't matter if Francis wasn't particularly good. He exceeded all expectations realistically and performed far better than anyone expected. Even the MMA world itself barely gave him a punchers chance.

That a 37 year old MMA fighter in their first ever boxing match almost beat someone considered among the best in the world is fairly shocking no matter what way you try and look at it.

It says nothing about Francis really but a lot about Fury and at the end of the day it's very embarrassing for boxing.

The Almeida vs Lewis main last night was a disgrace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,296 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

Conor is not exactly struggling but wow considering the money he generated for the company he is arguably their most underpaid fighter of all time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

" Tyson should haven been bale to roll off the couch and beat Ngannou"

It looks like that is exactly what he did,

Tyson was absolutely awful & still own that figh by around or two, France was also terrible, he gets lit up against any of the top HW's ,

Id even back Chisora or Whyte to beat him,

Don't forget people have tape of him now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭US3

Couple of good fights announced yesterday.

    Strickland V DuPlessis in Jan.

    Volk v Tuporia in Feb

Suga Sean V Chito in Mar.

I reckon McGregor will be on the April ufc300 card

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,105 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Is the card for this weekends UFC any good i.e. worth watching?

Lol, the only tape they have on him is fighting a guy that's 6'9". That doesn't help anybody.

Prochazka Vs Pereira is the main event for the light heavyweight championship.

    I've no interest in that.

Pavlivicu Vs Aspinall is interesting but I wouldn't stay up to watch it.

    It's pretty crap after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭hawaii501

I disagree, 2 brilliant exciting match ups and I can't wait for them.

Not sure who wins the light heavyweight but I think Tom will win the heavyweight clash. Think he just has that bit more class. But again could easily be KO'D.

Although I'll probably wake up early rather than stay up. Rest of the card I won't bother with.

I agree, really looking forward to both fights.

I fancy Aspinall to be too good all-round for Pavlovich.

    I think Jiri smokes Pereira.

I'll watch the last three fights as the rest of the card doesn't get my nipples hard. Andrade vs. Dern should be a good one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,649 ✭✭✭Still Ill

Yeah, I was surprised to see Pereira as slight favourite. He's only had one fight at LHW and only just about won if I remember correctly. I know Jiri is coming back from an injury, but I'd definitely favour him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,588 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

    Hope Jiri does this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,588 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

    :(

    Fair play to Pereira

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

I rewatched it & found it quite obvious how little Pereira let his hands he go was very very reluctant to let shots off,

I wonder was it a tactic to just wait & wait and wait to get Jiri to open up ,
