I suppose it's an new model. I'd love to see them rumbled if they are systematically lying.

Some of them go back to 2022. So the previous model too, also see some for the MY. It's a great way to give yourself really good efficiency figures.

I went on a 140 km Sunday drive today, mostly to check my consumption. I drove to my destination on a mix of roads and returned on the motorway.

On a mixture of motorway & national roads, I got 17.5kWh/100km - no heating most of the time.

On motorway @ 112 kph, I got 20.5 kWh/100km with the heating set @ 21 degrees (activated with Hey Kia😊)

Over the last 150km, I averaged 18.3 kWh/100km (todays drive was 140km of this).

On my last eNiro motorway journey after christmas, I got 16.5 kWh/100km @ 105 kph with the heater on some of the time.

My average over the last 10k KM in the eNiro was 16kWh/100km. This would be a mix of all types of roads.

I'll reserve judgement until I have gone through a few charge/discharge cycles but at the moment the EV3 looks like it has the same range as my eNiro, despite the fact the EV3 battery is 20% bigger.

No regrets so far, though. The car is a joy to drive, although there are a few software niggles that'll hopefully get sorted with an update.

and you have the heatpump too?

I suppose im on 17" rather than the 19". but I have the fans always on, I like the air in my face, set to whatever is comfortable, usually 20.
I nearly always have the a/c switched on too, granted this weather is fine id prob get away without it but its good to keep the cars dry. - sone the same in the niro.

(we keep the ac on all the time in the tractors too for the same reason)

Havent tried the hey kia yet!

Yep, heatpump on mine. It might balance out the efficiency gain with 17".

The rear discs on the niro always ended up rusty : ev3 has a new feature

Ah, good to know, done it on the eNiro by putting it in neutral going down a hill!

    Plug and charge worked perfectly.

Also tried the battery pre conditioning at least 15-20 mins but pulled in the battery temp was still "low"

Still charged at 100kW at 46%

20 mins would not long enough to heat up a cold battery.

Drove for 190km at the weekend. There efficiency figures are disappointing.

    The first 90 km was mostly at 80kph with a small bit of motorway @ 110kph. I got a consumption figure 19.5 kwh/100km. After a brief stop, I did 30km @ 100kph and got 14.5 kwh/100km.

The average for the total trip of 190 km was 17.5 kwh/100km, which would give me a range of 440km. My eNiro (without a heatpump) has about the same range on the same drive in these temps and the EV3 has a heatpump.

The app reported my efficiency for the journey of 15.25 kwh/100km. I would be happy enough with that if it were true.

Edit: forgot to say temperature was about 8 to 10 degrees and I only used the heating for a few mins on the return part of the trip. It was quite sunny so not cold at all in the car.

Looks like the EV3 is increasing premiums for car insurance.

My premium increased by 39% from last year on my eNiro. I tried my old eNiro reg as a new customer with my insurance company and it was the same price as last year. It's more or less the same car from an insurance perspective. So unfortunately the Kia EV3 is being loaded for some reason.

A few guys on cupra born thread getting loaded for some reason too. I suppose shopping around whenever you are up for renewal, thats quite an increase

Interesting on the difference between our eNiro and yours too. Ours never hit 450 on the GOM even in mid summer.

Ours sat at 400 in the summer 375 in the winter. Although if we turned the climate control off it did rise but didn't pay any attention to that as we always had it on, and the AC turned on.

Our ev3 (earth2) sits at about 450ish on the GOM these days.

On runs to Belfast and back, there was definitely a noticeable increase in remaining range once we got home.

Although the last run was just after Ewoen, we charged on the way up (left home with 73%) and charged again on the way home as we didn't know if power was going to be back by the time we got home.

Could it be just because it's a new car and higher value? I'm going from a 2020 eNiro to an ev3 which is more than doubling it's value.

My insurance isn't up until July though.

I shopped around, my present company is still cheapest. Looks like all companies are loading the EV3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭podge3

I often saw close to 500 Kms on my eNiro GOM during the summer, and got close to it many times. I don't think I ever saw less than 400 Kms when fully charged. As we all know, it was fairly accurate.

I've never found the value to affect the premium too much.

I put in the reg of a 242 Niro EV, which would have nearly the same value as the EV3, and I got the same price as last year.

It's definitely the EV3 is causing the increase.

It's a known issue in Kia / Hyundai that there is a difference between what the car says it's efficiency is and what the app says it is. My experience (in a Hyundai) is that the efficiency stated in the app is accurate and the car is 10%+ different.

I suggest you check this for yourself. Is the usable battery capacity 78kWh in your model? Check the % battery used over any trip you take.....

    If you used 37% to do the 190km, that's 0.37x 78 = 28.87kWh / 1.9 = 15.2kWh/100km. 43% to do 190km is 17.5kWh/100km.

Yes, I've done the maths and the dash reading are all fairly consistent. The app is different.

I used 41% of the battery to drive 190Kms, thats 16.8 kWh/100km. The GOM said 17.6, so not hugely out. The app said 15.25.

I had 59% left, the GOM said I had 261kms range, so its obviously using the calculated consumption of 17.6kWh/100km.

OK, so a bit of an improvement this evening.

When ringing the company got me nowhere a few days ago, I tried an online quote with them as a new customer. The premium was slightly more expensive than my increased premium for this year.

I've been trying a few different car regs over the past few days as a new customer and it was always the same result i.e. an eNiro or Niro EV was the same price as last year and an EV3 was about 40% more expensive. They wouldn't quote me at all on an EV6🙄

So this evening I went back and changed my reg back to my EV3 and the premium as a new customer had decreased. Its still 14% more expensive than last year but better than 39%. They still won't quote me on an EV6.

Maybe I should wait a few more days and it might decrease a bit more😁

Anyone waiting on a delivery from Kia Galway? Was supposed to be 30th Jan and now it's back to 09th Mar 😡

Looks like the GOM figures are correct, not the app.

I charged my car last night from 46% battery so needed 54% to fill it up, thats 42 kWh. Zappi told me it used 48.5 kWh. Thats about a 15% charging loss, not too bad, a bit more than the eNiro IIRC.

So the dash GOM calculation appears to tally with the % battery used, giving me about 17.8 kWh/100km, Probably not too bad but I would be getting 15% better with the eNiro in similar conditions.

The app figures appear to be fiction, or there is just an issue with the data. I saw a guy on Facebook today drove 120 miles and used no battery on driving.

One thing I noticed today while driving today was the efficiency of the heatpump. When the car had warmed up, it was ticking over at 300 to 400 watts to maintain the cabin temperature, a bit less than the electronics consumption. I think those with a heatpump can largely discount its effect on consumption on longer journeys at the temp today (6 to 8 deg).

I saw an owner on a Facebook drive achieved 15.6 kWh/100km (4 miles per kWh) over a 190km drive at an average of 85kph. The temp was -4 to + 4 degrees. Dunno how he did it, must've been all downhill.

I'm going to stop watching the consumption now as its distracting me from my enjoyment of a mostly fantastic car. It will no doubt improve during warmer months, but my figures at the moment are disappointing, with a real range of barely more than my eNiro.

I still can't get over what you were getting on the Niro!

Although we're on 17" but I don't think it would make that much difference. But we're getting similar range to you but that is very noticeable increase from our eNiro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭podge3

I think you do a lot of motorway journeys? Most of my driving in on national and regional roads.

The longest regular motorway journey I make is an occasional pilgrimage to Ikea. Its over 300km round trip and I used to make it home with about 20% battery at this time of year. Speed would be about 110kph (except the M50 😕) and heating used when required. Consumption was about 17 kWh/100km.

As I've said previously said, I rarely saw less than 400km on the GOM, even after a motorway drive.

I think the 19" wheels might be a considerable contributing factor to my relatively poor range. WLTP is either 560km or 580km depending on what literature you read. I'd say its more like 560km max during the summer on the 19"s.

General commute for the other half is 80/100km (with one of them just changed to 60) roads.. about 40km each way, but the foot isn't light 😜🤣.

Niro it was averaged about 10% one way, sometimes as high as 11-12% in the cold and/or wet winter days,

Summer would be 9ish. Ev3 is currently 8.5% each way.

Longer drives is when I'm driving and keeping an eye on how it's doing, and also a good benchmark. The run to belfast is basically the A6, M2. But is tracking proportionally to what we got in the eNiro.

Had been running all seasons on the Niro though, but didn't notice any change initially when we first put them on

Have all seasons now on the EV3 now, will see if that changes things.
