A few accessories I bought for the EV3:

Kia's mudflaps are more "mud pieces" as they look to be (quite literally) small pieces is plastic. Don't think they will stop much mud or water. The Amazon ones are an excellent fitment, although the plastic they are made from is light and probably not all that durable. They are a fairly close colour match to the matt cladding on my Earth 3, not sure how they would look on a GT Line. I've attached a pic, the colour match is much closer when viewed with the naked eye.

Both of these items are probably on Aliexpress etc also.

Who has coins these days? Maybe it's a bigger thing in South Korea.

the coin thing is bought on amazon, its not "standard" on the ev3

Never understood mudflaps myself. Looks nice in black!

I've had mudflaps on all my cars over the years, it's probably more of a nostalgia thing with me now.

They do spoil the sleek look of cars and probably have limited effect.

If you live in rural Ireland and like to keep your car somewhat clean, you’ll understand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭MarkN

I live near constant building sites and lazy developers who don’t carry out their planning permission obligations of cleaning the roads that they’ve covered in mud, I still don’t get them, I just think they ruin the look of a car. Get that Kia CarPay going and you won’t need many coins ;)

What is Kia carpay anyway? Does it work anywhere here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭MarkN

they have a few places with Parkopedia, should in theory roll out more locations as time goes on. Found their app in general really great though. Essentially you add your car to it and it will pay for things like any digital wallet. Plug and go is another feature so no more using apps, fobs etc to charge.

Ive setup the plug and charge, Its still saying pending on the contract, Do I need to go to an ionity to activate it?

Anywhere that has a map of the parkopedia places that has the carpay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭MarkN

Not sure on the pending. Worth hooking up to an Ionity and seeing what happens.

easier said than done, nearest one is about an hour and half away! I'll be passing one at some point. Run to belfast at the weekend, but wont need to charge with the 80kWh battery!

    More thoughts on the EV3.

The more I drive it, the more I like it - mostly. The interior is really growing on me, 90% is a lovely grey colour, it looks way better than the GT line I test drove, which had some very light colours.

Speaking of colours, the blue and grey look nothing like the colours on the many videos I have watched. I know cameras can alter the colour reproduction (along with indoor/outdoor variations) but the blue and grey are really nice in the metal. Black is best, of course 😀.

Some glitches that will hopefully be sorted out with a software update:

    • the drive mode is not remembered
    • the drive mode is displayed on the lower LHS of main screen - but only when you press the drive mode button
    • auto regen mode is not remembered
    • No 4 hour consumption figure, its only current trip, since reset and total (I think). The 4 hour timescale was great as it would cover several trips.

As far as I can tell, the auto regen setting doesn't really regen unless it sees a car in front. I though it was supposed to use its own maps and slow down at bends etc. Easing off on the accelerator doesn't slow down on bends. I'm not really keen in the ipedal mode but I'll give it a go.

Finally, I have had numerous admiring comments/glances etc on the car, it really looks fantastic.

I see a guy on a UK forum has tried a V2L adapter on an Air model and unfortunately it didn't work.

Just collected mine today and find since I am used to the Niro EV i keep looking for the shifter to my left and have to remind myself about the change.

Everything is reversed on the steering wheel also (in relation to the eNiro), it'll take a few weeks for muscle memory to kick-in 🙂

Collected the Earth 2 today. Surprised by the quality of the interior, better than expected given it's the lowest trim. Lovely car!

Like driving a tractor with the forward/reverse at the steering wheel

There has been some concern about the range of the EV3. I dismissed most of the posts about this and put it down to lack of experience with EVs etc but there might be some merit in it.

I drove about 25km today in mostly urban driving and got 16.5kWh/100 kms. I would get 13.5kWh/100kms on my eNiro on the same driving, giving both cars the exact same range of about 470 kms.

I know its a very short distance to make a judgement call but there may be something in the range concerns. I've only used about 15% so far so maybe it'll take a few charges/discharges to get proper consumption figures.

Now you mention it, it does remind me of the old Zetors 😊.

No, no, the modern ones, where a computer basically drives it.

A little after my tractor driving years, I'm taking 3611 😁

In the Norwegian winter range test, the EV3 fell 15% short of the WLTP range. This was typical of EVs in the test, the Polestar 3 did best.

500km in winter looks excellent to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

Some of those results are shocking. The M3's lying trip computer was a bit of an eyebrow raiser.

Wouldn't put it past them to lie, they stretch the truth with other things like their roll out acceleration times and measuring cargo space above parcel shelf (i think, correct me if i am wrong) but surely if it was a common thing to happen with range misrepresentation it would be uncovered well before now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,830 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

There's a lot of talk about it on Tesla forums and reddit. Some really massive differences quoted.

Ive found it on par with the Niro (2020) for long distance efficiency (I've never seen our Niro at 13.5kwh/100km)

Yesterday, from north Donegal to Belfast and back 309km done with 130 left on the GOM, actually with back to back Belfast on Friday too (800km up on the car already!) averaging around 18.5kwh/100 km with 30% left on battery. Currently sitting at 79% and 370 on the GOM, which would be our Niro full at this time of the year. Very little urban driving, mostly 80-100km/h roads

Niro in winter would be in the low teens with the lowest being single digits on one particularly bad day. On our Niro 10% was 40km.

Good parts of it is at least dual carriageway (Derry - dungiven) and once over glenshane its dual carriageway/motorway to Belfast. Speed limit is only 112 though. 😜

I dare say 420-440 could be the range of it at motorway speeds. No plans to go to Dublin until the end of the year, (dub airport (via Belfast, although longer is a much nicer drive)) is about the same distance as the round trip to Belfast

We did do a one way run to sandyford in the summer with the Niro once and got to dundrum with 10-15% left

    Edit: in addition

Boot space is really noticeable change from the Niro, we use the M&S insulated bags for food shopping. Big square, with lid, and in the Niro I noticed them really taking up big chunks of the boot.

In the EV3, (un-scientifically) it felt like i had heaps of space after the 3-4 bags went in.
