Started Kirby and the Forgotten Land last night.

    Like it so far.

Super Mario RPG. Simple and silly, but has a nice little hook in it to pull you in.

Started Tears of the Kingdom Friday, getting to grips with the new abilities and Just arrived at lookout landing.

f-zero 99. Late to the party but I’m dusting off my old world record in twin galaxies and coming around 20th in all the races.

Voidwrought. I know the hardcore Metroidvania players are saying it's a bit too easy, but I'm finding it challenging. I just got my first damage upgrade, so hopefully that will make progress a bit easier for me.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. After 40+ hours I'm at the final battle. I'm now wondering about the DLC, the Donkey Kong one for the first game was class, anyone experienced it for the latest game?

Might sound crazy, but just getting into tears of the kingdom now. Kids are 2.5 now, so have a little bit more free time as things settle a bit. Needless to say, its a brilliant game!

Finished Voidwrought. Got the "bad" ending. Need to find 20 thingies scattered around the map to access the final boss. An update came out at the weekend which will help with that. When the update comes out on Switch, I'll come back to it.

    Time for M&L Brothership now....

Skyward Sword, after only playing 10 hours or so when it first came out on the Switch.

25 hours in now and loving it.

    Something about sandwiches

Got the little ones some games for Xmas.

Been playing Mario Wonder mostly. Great game. The more players the better. 2 player is great, but 4 player is mayhem. Managed to get through most of the game with the little fella. We're on the final stage in the special world but can't quite get it yet. Great fun.

Also been playing Mario Party Jamboree in 4 player. Good craic with a bit of mayhem thrown in. Some of the party games are beyond the youngest but otherwise grand.

I jumped back into Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Now, Dark Souls it is not, in terms of difficulty at least.

But, it is a lot of fun!

Plus, I understand the post game content is fun, so hopefully I won't be distracted before I get there!

Need to get back to Super Mario RPG and Metroid Prime remastered. Been distracted by life stuff and also PS5 shiny stuff.

If anyone hasn't played Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown then I recommend it, also the physical Switch version is being replaced with a code in a box version so beware of that if you are ordering the cartridge version. Fantastic game. It'll probably get very cheap digitally.

Just started into Echoes of Wisdom.

Looks like the list of echoes is growing big already and I'm only in the first dungeon.

Played a few games over Christmas that I thought I'd like, but didn't. Pizza Tower and Anton Blast were both games that I liked the idea of (and they got great reviews), but I found them both pretty annoying and stopped playing after a few levels. Too chaotic or something…

Then I played Bat Boy, a 2D pixel art platformer, very similar to Shovel Knight in style. Loved that and got 100% in it.

Now I'm playing something a bit deeper - Ni No Kuni II. I'm about 3 hours in and really enjoying it.

Blade Chimera is out on Thursday, which is a well anticipated metroidvania (I'll wait for reviews). I expect that will be next for me…

I have to get back to Brothership too. I think I have about 11 islands done now.

Loved Echoes of Wisdom so I picked up Tunic in the eshop sale to keep the 2d top-down vibe going. Only played about an hour but I think I'm going to love this….

How are the controls on the switch? Played it on the Wii (and seemed to be one of the few who rated it) but am a little dubious about how it might transfer. Also, my joycons are shagged and have been playing everything with pro controllers; not planning on shelling out on new joycons with switch 2 obviously around the corner….

Can it be played properly without joycons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,705 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Mainly controls well yeah. The swimming is a pain in the hole mind. I'm using a joypad.

At the Fire Sanctuary now (Chapter 14/18). Really enjoying it. Had no idea so much of it made it into BOTW/TOTK.

Brilliant. Will pick it up second hand. Great game, very underrated. My daughter's also working her way through the zeldas so this will be a good one for her.

So finished Skyward Sword last night. Enjoyed it overall. Some absolutely genius bits, especially with the timeshift stuff. Just doesnt have the magic of some other in the series for me.

Found it repetitive a few times mind you. Backtracking, repeating "bosses" etc.

Currently playing Mario and Luigi Brothership, it's a good game but it has to be up there with one of the most bloated games ever in terms of length. Just completed the reconnecting all bonds part which seemed very dragged out, and trying to finish some of the more difficult side quests before they become unavailable, hopefully I'm near the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭Xofpod

Absolutely loving Tunic. The feeling of discovery as the game opens up is something I probably haven't felt since BOTW.

Taking a break from Lone Fungus due to a tough late game boss. Brilliant Metroidvania though. Good length too! Very "Hollow Knight" in structure and gameplay.

I put about 5 hours into Star of Providence over the weekend and I'm completely hooked. It came out about 7 years ago on Steam, and came out on Switch a few weeks ago. It's a twin stick 2D pixel art arena shooter with thousands of different room layouts and tons of secrets/unlockables. All DLC and updates are included in the Switch version. There are 5 floors to beat (plus a few secret ones) and it's very like Enter the Gungeon.

I'm playing this myself and overall enjoying it, but the two small things I find annoying are the cutscenes that keep replaying (e.g. seeing the lads fired out of the cannon once is fine, every time after that is just wasting my time instead of letting me get on with playing the game) and the "fast forward" mechanism being almost pointless (I can read a lot faster than the default dialogue play rate, but if I can only fast forward through some conversations, that's not much help).

We'll see how annoyed I am about it by the end of the 40-ish hours HLTB reckons it should take me...

    Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Still getting used to controlling both characters at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,750 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Playing Biomorph right now. Great metroidvania with fun mechanics. You absorb enemies to get their abilities. Beautiful game too.

I'll probably go to Cookie Cutter after that…

Playing PGA 2K21 for the week that's in it. And because there hasn't been one released on Switch since.

I'm playing Metroid Prime on the Switch.

I got halfway through the infuriating end boss back when I played it on its first release, on the GameCube but, probably age related, I'm stuck in the first run at the Phazon mines. What a pain in the arse that is

That gave me trouble on my first play through. There's a nasty fight then in the power bomb room. I remember my first time beating that fight and you had two doors to choose from. I choose one and continued and got destroyed. Came back and chose the other door and it was a save room....

Playing a lot of Castlevania 3 lately and loving it. I finished the Sypha route. Sypha makes the game a bit easier as she is a total glass cannon. Takes a lot of damage but her sub weapons are incredibly powerful. Doing the other two routes now. I think both feature Alucard. Yes SOTN Alucard. However he is more a hindrance than a help in this game and way less useful than Sypha.
