getting 84% of his wages covered is about as good as we could have done. that will free up about £3.7m (£200k * .84 * 4 weeks * 5.5 months).

    romano:

Antony will fly to Spain today for Real Betis loan move, as reported earlier.

Betis will cover at least 84% of wages plus bonuses until the end of the season.

Since when did expecting more from Amorim mean going to 442, parking the bus or counterattacking? Did somebody claim that?

He can keep whatever formation he wants as far as I'm concerned, I just want to see improvements somewhere.

This is Europe's **** hot new coach, is it so much to ask to want to see players getting better under him? To see performances get better as the months go by?

And the first person to whinge about him not getting enough training sessions can do one, he gets the same training time as all the other coaches.

I would say at this point we have a much better chance at winning the Europa League or FA Cup than finishing 7th in the league. There isn't many good teams in the Europa and the players seem to be more comfortable playing in knockout format/one off games. Even if we have a substantial uptick in league performance + PPG between now and the end of the season, 7th would be ambitious.

I know this was brought up recently but I cannot remember the outcome. As utd are in quite in a desperate financial situation how come they don't sell the naming rights for Carrington or Old Trafford?

I am sure you posted this already, many times.

Good luck getting what you are asking for with that squad.

Good luck with getting some improvements in play? In getting some players to improve?

It's hardly a high bar to meet.

Amorim may as well work from home if he doesn't even have to achieve that basic level of expectation. He must be the jammiest coach in the history of football, he doesn't have to show anything.

I think we should walk away same way we did with Branthwaite in the summer. He's not worth that price tag

Will be interesting to see if United go back a 3rd time. I would reckon that unless Garnacho is sold or Rashford leaves on loan we don't have the room to up the base fee part of the offer.

I always wonder what it is clubs are discussing when we hear they have been talking and negotiating for a couple of days… then you bid and its rejected. What was actually discussed!?

I don't get how you can chat for a couple of days, and then send a bid that is quickly rejected. Surely you know at that point already.

Old Trafford: Fans would riot i reckon. They could push it through, of course, but the fan reaction could put off sponsors in the first place. I do think we will sell for a new build, cause it won't have a history to protect.

Carrington: I've no idea. It seems obvious they should. As far as I know they could - we had a parter til 2021 in Aon. Don't know why it wasn't replaced then, or now. Maybe some fine print in an existing deal. Maybe they are waiting til the refurb is done and they announce the sponsor alongside the 'reopening'. I don't get it though. feels like 20m being left on the table for no reason - and surely there is not no reason.

Most match going fans don't care about stadium name. It will always be called old Trafford locally unless it's demolished. they are more worried about ticket prices and facilities. Obviously I haven't interviewed them all but from conversations that have had over their ever the years most don't care.

Carrington was renamed already no one cared I can't understand why it's not been done this season.

I had a feeling maybe ineos are waiting to see what the outcome of the city case was to see of they could pump money in that way themselves I donno but I don't think it's a fan excuse anyway.

I don’t think the reaction would be that bad because fans can and will call it Old Trafford regardless. It wouldn’t mean that much. You don’t hear anyone going around saying “Spotify Camp Nou”.

Super League, ticket pricing - real issues, then yeah.

100% agree, to be good in the transfer market and to regain respect you need to be able to walk away.

were we ever in for that nypan lad? saw he was flying to manchester so was excited, but its city he's going to.

I never said that about Amorim. I am not sure anyone ever did.

At this point you seem to be arguing against your perception of what people are saying.

What's the answer you're looking for?

That Amorim is a fraud? That his successes at Sporting mean nothing and he was falsely rated one of the top young coaches in European football and that all the other coaches on the PL are better than him?

We are 13th in the league and not a single player brought in with 3 weeks gone in the transfer window. I think we just have to get used to being a mid table club for the foreseeable future.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,215 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

The answer I'd like is to see something improving in the team.

How about a clean sheet, is that a big ask or has he not had enough time to work with the defence yet?

I will never hold my breath waiting on answers in here, if come April/May people start to wonder why nothing has changed, they will still conveniently pretend that these discussions never happened.

1 loss in five games that included Arsenal and Liverpool. Bad man Ruben.

It's work in progress we ain't coming From position of much positive he took over a team in 14th we are not entitled to be any higher we have been terrible before and after manager change.

Everyone is entitled to follow the team how they want I guess, but we have an identity if sorts now and the manager is not afraid to say where we are at and where he wants the team to get too.

Or arsenal...we were favourites at point but probably refusing to spend again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,784 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Big problem with the team is we don't get enough bodies into the box, when we get a proper LWB we can have him and Amad at RWB attacking and creating more, freeing the 2 10s and striker to bomb forward, we also need the CB's to push higher.

So transfer wise an LWB is badly needed this month, then the summer a quicker CB, dynamic CM and experienced Striker, then an Onana replacement if we aren't too broke.

Another Busby babe died last night. The club's youngest ever player David Gaskell. David was meant to travel on the plane in February 1958 but at the last minute he was swapped out because united signed Harry gregg. He said he suffered with guilt for the rest of his life.

Was reading about his Debut before, amazing stuff, he was sitting in the crowd watching, after being working at the club that day and one of the coaches pulled him from the crowd when the keeper got injured early in the game, gave him another players boots and threw him in nets. Went on to win MOTM and keep a clean sheet.

    RIP

If Garnacho leaves it will essentially feel like we have paid £81.3 million plus Garnacho for Antony. 🤮

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,056 ✭✭✭DiscoStew

The only real benefit I would see to reverting to a 433 counter attacking style would be to attempt to generate greater interest in players like Rashford and Garnacho and potentially bring in higher transfer fees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Or you can get garnacho, Bruno, amad and a striker all in attacking positions. While still have the two fullbacks we play every game. Sacrificing a Cb for an attacking player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 968 ✭✭✭jayo44

Arguably Amad is already in an attacking position he is triving as an attacking wing back. People so fixated in names of positions but not the actual roles.

Mistakes are the route cause of the teams issues not having an extra attacker. In fact I don't remember us being very clinical infront if goal under ETH either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

But we regularly play with mazraoui at rwb and only 3 attacking players.

So no, I'm not fixated on the name of the position.

Im acknowledging the team selections we regularly make.

30 years ago today, Cantona's flying kick.

Definitely the FA threw us under the bus that season with Cantona. What Utd suspended him for was perfectly adequate punishment. Cost us a championship if I remmember correctly. Wasn't that the year we done everything bar score the winner v West Ham ?
