Yeah I was thinking that. They did it in the comics a few years ago. Just not sure how good that would be if you have RDJ as Doctor Doom at the same time. Feels sort of redundant.

I'm not against it. If RDJ and Evans are really playing villains then it's the type of casting that will elevate everyone else in the cast. It gives Mackie something of depth to go up against in Evans.

Marvel have fluffed creating a compelling villain one too many times, so I don't blame them for taking another calculated risk here.

Making RDJ bad isn’t really creative at all. The point of going back to these actors is that they are desperate and don’t seem to have a decent strategy.

They really are threatening to undermine the potential goodies. You just know Mackie will have to fight Evans, in what world does he beat an actual super serum CA? Are they gonna kryptonite the bad CA?

And who honestly cares about the current marvel superhero’s? None of them really have the charisma and leadership feels of Cap/IM. Part of the reason CW worked was because it felt right that the two leads of each group were indeed leaders.

When Thor, CA and Ironman fight Thanos, it had serious gravitas. When CA uses mlolnir, I mean that was just superb. There’s not one superhero (thors a bit of a joke) who has that sort of symmetry that stark and cap had so they better start figuring out who is gonna be the lead hero’s if it’s not Evans.

Potentially who can be the Lead hero ? Reed Richard’s ? Some x men ? Not really much time to build up from current stable and something tells me the new CA movie won’t make Mackie that guy. He’s not got the same charm and leader like feeling that Evans had. I actually like Mackie but don’t see the role he plays as strong as Original CA.

Ah. That makes "sense". I was with @Penn and thought it would have been a terribly unfair thing to do to Anthony Mackie.

I suppose this will open the floodgates for alternate versions of the rest of the initial actors: Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston etc.

But the most important thing: Will they all have Goatees (Or NOT one in RDJ case)? Otherwise, how are we supposed to know they are eeeeeeeeevillllll?

I'd be surprised if they do Hydra Cap given how badly recieved that plot was. But Marvel have kept the character knocking about so maybe.

Seemingly its rumoured in Doomsday that Doom will have a team akin to Thanos with the Black Order but made up of multiverse evil versions of the OG avengers to carry out his palns. So far leaks have hinted at Captain Hydra and Maestro as part of this "dark" avengers team who will go up against the current team to steal the 10 Rings, Quantum Bands etc.

I do agree with previous posts though in relation to the current Avengers and their likeability/star power being flat. Spiderman and Thor being the only exceptions despite the latter being a nullified version of his comic book self. if following Secret Wars, Marvel reboot the MCU they've a huge job on their hands if they do recast OG heroes ie. Iron Man (please recast Black Panther ASAP)

Does he have the feel of a leader though? I mean maybe multi verse Spider-Men ? I just feel like a young Peter Parker leading the entire hero group might not work.

You have to have somebody with more experience. Maybe even wolverine or somebody with an alpha male feel.

Thats why I cant see Miles Morales entering this MCU for a while as Tom Hollands Spiderman isn't of the age to mentor Miles yet

Yes I can't really see Peter as a leader, no matter which Peter or how many Peters 😄

No to recasting Tchalla's Black Panther under any circumstances. Would love a what if style switch where Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) did become Black Panther. Michael B deserves it if he wants it. No one else.

yeah - they had killmonger as BP in WhatIf, so they have the precedent set.

I honestly don't care which iteration it is as long as its not Shuri. Some fan made a great trailer for a black panther prequel movie with Bashenga a few years back

I really do think this is the best way to elevate the newer heroes while creating a story that will pull in people that may have lost interest.

I'd be totally fine with Lupita Nyong'o taking it on too, and would fit well enough within the established world too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,387 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Well, I would have thought she would have been a great Black Panther in the sequel too. I thought the film was…. fine. Not nearly as enjoyable as the first one. The first one, for me, was one of the best MCU movies (Apart from the typical rushed end battles): An awesome soundtrack. A fantastic antagonist (Who happened to be right). fun action sequences (Apart from the end, as said above. That casino fight and chase is pure hi-action fun). I know the sequel of course HAD TO have a more somber note than the first given the loss of Boseman and had to deal with trauma. But I just never warmed to Letitia Wright as Black Panther. Thought she was always too slight whereas Lupita Nyong'o was just badass.

I also never warmed to the "What If" series. I LOVE alternative timelines in Sci-Fi if they are planned/described well. If they make sense: This little thing didn't happen so the universe went off in that tangent. But I saw no logic in any of the "What If" stories. Much like Deadpool and Boimler, I am done with the Multiverse unless it's done interestingly.

Needless to say, this does NOT include Spiderverse

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,478 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah the thing about 'What If' for me was always that the premise was "What if this particular thing happened…" and the knock-on effects of that would have been interesting, but really they change so many unrelated points of history or character motivations that it's far less about "What If…" and more "Here's a fun little aside…" Some episodes have been fine, but a lot of it is just fluff and more based on what actors they can get.

As for Black Panther, Shuri becoming BP made sense because that's what has happened in the comics, but the film version of the characters just didn't warrant it. Letitia Wright is a decent actress but not one I'd base the BP franchise around, and while obviously her strength and abilities come from the herb, I really think they got it the wrong way around. She should have become Queen of Wakanda, with M'Baku becoming Black Panther as essentially her enforcer. Hopefully after Secret Wars and the likely combining/ending of the Multiverse stuff, we get a new version of Black Panther; either M'Baku, and different good version of Killmonger, or just a new actor playing T'Challa from a different multiverse reality.

Regarding Letitia Wright/Black Panther. Agreed. Nothing personal. Fine actor and played her character's loss very well. But just purely physically, she seemed too slight. I never read the comics so I suppose her being Black Panther is probably in-line alright. But, with so many comics and variants out there, I assume many of the main characters have been versions of BP over the years. Like every other comic. I mean, how many people have become Batman over the years? Even if only for an issue or two.

And yeah, alternative timelines have to make sense (IMHO of course). I mean, one of the most famous of course is Star Trek's City at The Edge of Forever:

Kirk saves Joan Collins. She leads a pacifist movement. This delays the US entry into WW2. Leading to Germany takeover of Europe. Rise in fascism etc. Leading, eventually to shift in space exploration goals and no Federation.

Not: Hey, Thor and Loki are best bros throwing a party with, I don't know, Korg and Howard The Duck.

So, if they do an alternative eeeeeeevil version of the Phase 1 & 2 Avengers they need to do more than just give them goatees.

I think one of the earliest things in What If which made me realise "Alright they're just f*cking around with this" was What If T'Challa became Star Lord, and they made it that T'Challa was such a good guy that Thanos just chilled out and was friends with the GOTG.

I'd watch anyway. It gets steadily better and by the time things shift, you'll be glad you know the characters a little better.

Watching the new episodes of What If, being released daily.

    First episode was

What If we want people to focus on the characters we want them to be interested in now so we'll kill off the more popular ones at the start

Looking at episode titles and cast for upcoming episodes the season is also

What If people wanted to see more about Eternals.

I enjoyed What if season 3 although it's a weaker series than the previous 2. Started off promising but was pretty average from there on in. One thing that sticks out for me is that marvel need to pull the trigger on Captain Carter, what a great character

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,464 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Atwell and Evans have been cast in Doomsday so I wouldn't be surprised to see a Captain double act.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,489 ✭✭✭Cotts72

I think it's confirmed she's only playing agent Carter

I used to devour with passion the MCU but tapped out totally after phase three. Haven't bothered with any of the TV stuff but am tempted to check out Daredevil and Punisher. Are they as good as people make out?
