    Interest piqued!

I thought Ultron was fantastic so provided it isn't just for another dick joke, thats definitely interesting.

I thought they needed a good hook for that Vision show so that's a major get.

My memory is hazy in how they did it in Age of Ultron, but I recall thinking it was flimsy and that he'd inevitably return.

I enjoyed the character popping up in the What If series, but don't think it was Spader voicing him for that. Spader is usually worth a watch (or listen in this case).

Well, iirc, they said if even one ultron bot survived it would replicate again and they'd be back to world ending threat stuff. So... It was pretty clear on the movie logic they ended him.

I loved Vision vs. Final Ultron

I really liked Spader as Ultron but Age of Ultron was abysmal compared to the original Avengers, perfectly encapsulated in Thor's "I have run out of things to say" comment.

Bettany and Spader carry it majestically tbf. But for both of them its entirely meh.

Visions birth is another of the top MCU scenes

And Cap just twitching Mjolnir as Thor briefly looks worried played fantastically in Endgame of course.

I actually really love Age of Ultron. There were definitely a few things cut from the film which really hurt it (such as the end to Bruce and Nat's conversation in Hawkeye's house), and the fight against the Ultron bots never feels like they're any real threat for the most part. But there are so many great moments and performances in the film that it really grew on me on subsequent rewatches.

A solo Vision tv show didn't sound that great even though I love the character, but if we're getting Spader back as Ultron, I'm sold.

I thought it went too far in with the humour to the point where it was laughing at itself. Jokes are fine but when they're ridiculing the film they're a part of, it kills any sense of momentum and importance.

They're going for a comic-accurate look for Ben anyway.

    Trailer for Thunderbolts** released

*No idea why Thunderbolts* has an * in the title

thought that looked good - the bits of action shown looked nice and physical.

Ok that looks like a lot of fun and not insanely cgi heavy which is a positive.

I know this is a very nitpicky complaint in the general scheme of things, but in pure nomenclature pedantry mode… it annoys me that a ‘teaser’ trailer is over three minutes long and shows what appears to be a substantial percentage of the first act of the film 😅

    Just call it a trailer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,740 ✭✭✭✭Penn

It's Marvel. About a week before the film is released you'll be able to stitch together all the trailers and ad-spots and have 80% of the movie already watched.

That's one of the things I loved about Endgame. They really went to much greater efforts to only show parts from the earlier sections of the film and re-used a lot of footage from the earlier films to create their trailers. Even though a lot of people knew about the time heist due to various leaks and stuff, the trailers gave very little away, whereas Marvel seem to be getting a lot more desperate to get people back by giving up nearly all the surprises in their trailers the past few years (Doctor Strange 2 trailers had the Illuminati apart from John Krasinski's Reed Richards).

I mean this Endgame trailer from less than two weeks before release still managed to hide a huge amount about the film, including Bro Thor and Smart Hulk. I know other films can't use that amount of footage from previous films in their trailers, but Marvel really need to find a better balance between building hype, and just giving away glimpses of most of the bigger moments.

That Thunderbolts trailer looks incredibly bland. Presumably, it's more interesting for those with Disney Plus but it's a shrug from me. I'm getting better and not seeing absolute dross in the cinema and this looks like another boilerplate offering.

Have to say, Thunderbolts trailer looks a lot stronger than I would have expected. Can't say I'm getting OG Avengers level of excitement, but it looks like decent fun, and the lower-stakes is welcome. I think Florence Pugh just sits well with this character.

I like what they're going for, it kinda reminds me of the similar (but far better) Sons of Anarchy poster. Wish they'd managed to better integrate Florence's face into it though, it's quite poorly photoshopped there.

I like the trailer, I feel Florence Pugh and David Harbour will really shine throughout. I like that they haven't given us a proper look at Sentry and how it hints at the fact that there may be a bigger badder enemy at play in the background

I think there's a wider version of the poster, and someone noticed that Bob has 6 fingers on it. So there's probably an element of AI used in the poster too.

Enjoyed the Thunderbolts trailer. Looks fairly grounded (which is where I think they need to be to rebuild the MCU right now).

I'm guessing the * has something to do with the fact that the T-bolts are often not what they seem in the comics (for example a team of villains pretending to be heroes one time). I wouldn't in fact be surprised if there's some big twist about them being made a new, cynical, government or corporate controlled Avengers team at the end.

Which may lead nicely to a confrontation with the Young Avengers that Marvel have been seeding for far too long and will actually be as old as the original Avengers by the time they show up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,500 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Basically the Dark Avengers, but yeah I think the * is more that by the end of the film they won't be called the Thunderbolts anymore. I'm guessing Valeria calls them that when she brings them together

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 25,872 Mod ✭✭✭✭Doctor DooM

Yeah I could see there being a thing where no one likes the name Thunderbolts and they're workshopping new names throughout the movie. Then they get seen in public or something so "Dark" Avengers it is.

Total head canon nonsense of course :D

Reports tonight that Sam Raimi will be returning to direct Doctor Strange 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,641 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Surprised there's going to be a Doctor Strange 3. I thought Marvel was going to try and sweep that phase under the carpet.

    This too shall pass.

Apparently strange will factor big time with doom and the secret wars storyline. The Clea reveal at the end was always leading to Dr Strange 3 and more multiverse madness.

Strange could potentially work with doom to tackle the incursions before it all goes wrong if they go off the comics

There's a legendary comic where Doom comes to Strange for help rescuing his mother, where much of what we think of as the modern Doom is codified. It'd be a great option for a solid introduction to the character in a 3rd Strange film imo.

I don't really believe the RDJ Doom is our long term, permanent Doom so who knows if another one pops up first, or after. Multiverse makes all these things messy.
