I might be wrong but Circle K don't seem to advertise upcoming charger locations? They seem to just appear like a gift from the charging gods

Ecars gone from CircleK Finglas about a week ago. Shortly before that, CircleK had a planning application to upgrade the entire site plus add 8 chargers.

Talk about mass exodus, or expulsion

I suppose it was inevitable that the forecourts would give Ecars the boot, however it'd be nice if they waited until they have their own chargers up and running first

We don't have a home charger - if the circle k near us get rid of the high power charger we'd be rightly stuck

There are 4 x 22kw chargers at Rathfarnham shopping centre.

Terenure = 0

Templeogue = 0

Rathgar = 0

Rathmines has one ESB 22kw in the tesco carpark which is pay and display and heavily policed.

Ranelagh has one ESB 22kw on Chelmsford road which is a Dublin city council parking zone (red which is super expensive).

The nearest "fast" chargers are at SuperValu Sundrive, but these are always busy with taxis, and I mean always busy.

I think the GAA club in Templeoge got funding for a fast charger in that new scheme announced earlier this year didn't they?

I think they'll replace it quick enough...

Perhaps but there's a large market of drivers who can't parallel park, looking at this thinking it's the answer to all their problems.

Is battery theft a big thing? How about just replacing the battery if it goes on 🔥, obviously not proofread carefully.

I wonder does it cover granny cables, realistically they're more likely to catch fire than a charging cable

ICE drivers hit hard with this week's budget in the UK.

For the worst-affected high-performance and luxury cars emitting more than 255g/km - such as the V8 petrol Range Rover - the first-year road tax rate jumps from an already hefty £2,745 to an eye-watering £5,490. However even buyers of small superminis like a 1.2-litre hybrid Vauxhall Corsa emitting 102g/km of CO2 take a significant hit, with their first-year rate doubling from £195 to almost £400. The sliding scale of charging bands itself is kept unchanged.

I can't see too many V8 petrol Range Rovers being sold next year.

What bugs me the most though is that the recent budget in Ireland was a missed opportunity by the government to increase EV sales. I know it was an election budget but if they are serious about the transition and don't want to be hit with significant EU fines at the end of the decade then applying pain to ICE drivers will be needed sooner rather than later.

Mmmm Irish private motorists could only dream of such hardship. The first year vrt on a v8 range rover in this pampered motoring country amounts to in the region of €140k. Even a bog std Yaris Cross attracts a first year vrt hit of €5kplus.

I wonder what the magnitude hit on private car sales would be if the current lenient Irish mor tax regime was introduced in the UK

UK cost of public charging is crazy especially on motorways. They do have some large charging sites through.

When the UK originally changed their motor tax rates they didn't keep old rates for older cars like we did in 2008. As a result it put a lot of older stuff off the road back then. Things like the ULEZ allow recent cars with low emissions. So there's no disincentive in the UK to driving a modern low emissions ICE as far as I can see. Though no incentive to move to EV either.

Similarly fueling up with diesel or petrol at UK motorway services is equally extortionate.
