No one imported a Tesla from the US to here.
Ecars gone from CircleK Finglas about a week ago. Shortly before that, CircleK had a planning application to upgrade the entire site plus add 8 chargers.
Circle k in hartstown blanch have a load of the forecourt dug up so I reckon they are getting a few chargers
Talk about mass exodus, or expulsion
I suppose it was inevitable that the forecourts would give Ecars the boot, however it'd be nice if they waited until they have their own chargers up and running first
Oil companies like control and will enforce it whenever they need to weed out the enemy
We don't have a home charger - if the circle k near us get rid of the high power charger we'd be rightly stuck
Surely they’re are plenty of other charging options around this area of Dublin ?
There are 4 x 22kw chargers at Rathfarnham shopping centre.
Terenure = 0
Templeogue = 0
Rathgar = 0
Rathmines has one ESB 22kw in the tesco carpark which is pay and display and heavily policed.
Ranelagh has one ESB 22kw on Chelmsford road which is a Dublin city council parking zone (red which is super expensive).
The nearest "fast" chargers are at SuperValu Sundrive, but these are always busy with taxis, and I mean always busy.
Which area of Dublin.
I think the GAA club in Templeoge got funding for a fast charger in that new scheme announced earlier this year didn't they?
I'm in Meath. Currently use a circle k charger 10 minutes away. Otherwise would be travelling 25/30km for a fast charge
I think they'll replace it quick enough...
BYD showing off some rear wheel features. That thing with the counter-rotating wheels to move the rear sideways looks like it'll eat tyres though.
Perhaps but there's a large market of drivers who can't parallel park, looking at this thinking it's the answer to all their problems.
There's 3 22kW, not 4. The left charger only allows one side in operation. I notified chargepoint of this and they said it was due to local supply. Apparently before they turned it from 4 into 3, random cutouts would happen. I use that spot a lot due to children's events on saturdays, I coincide them with dealz/tesco shopping and charging. (especially at the moment since we're using Mrs ELMs Ora while my tesla is off the road).
Sundrive is a very dodge location at night, I used it for the first time there recently (same reason, in the Ora) and I wouldn't like to be a woman there on my own at night.
Your Allianz Electric Car Insurance
Hi zg3409,
Did you know your electric car insurance policy covers your charging cable and battery?
So, if your battery or charging cable is stolen or goes on fire we will pay for the loss or damage to them.
------------
Is battery theft a big thing? How about just replacing the battery if it goes on 🔥, obviously not proofread carefully.
I'd say its one of those things that never happen but the insurance company can sound good (and gain customers) by offering to cover this perceived (but not real) risk.
I wonder does it cover granny cables, realistically they're more likely to catch fire than a charging cable
I couldn't find any specific examples of them being stolen on the web, just sound bites.
Maybe in some hybrids it's accessible but I though it's generally a lot of labour to get at them. They are also heavy I thought.
As you maybe it's like zombie proof shelters warranties.
There are reports of cables being stolen, but not many.
ICE drivers hit hard with this week's budget in the UK.
For the worst-affected high-performance and luxury cars emitting more than 255g/km - such as the V8 petrol Range Rover - the first-year road tax rate jumps from an already hefty £2,745 to an eye-watering £5,490. However even buyers of small superminis like a 1.2-litre hybrid Vauxhall Corsa emitting 102g/km of CO2 take a significant hit, with their first-year rate doubling from £195 to almost £400. The sliding scale of charging bands itself is kept unchanged.
I can't see too many V8 petrol Range Rovers being sold next year.
What bugs me the most though is that the recent budget in Ireland was a missed opportunity by the government to increase EV sales. I know it was an election budget but if they are serious about the transition and don't want to be hit with significant EU fines at the end of the decade then applying pain to ICE drivers will be needed sooner rather than later.
I always get concerned when its over a week since a new charger location - theyre fairly drip fed these days.
Even with the announced hubs, they are in crap locations. Crescent Limerick way off the Motorway and Mullingar at the far far back of an Industrial estate - cant imagine many women happy to charge there on a dark evening.
Better than nothing but you're not going to convince others to take it up with this.
Mmmm Irish private motorists could only dream of such hardship. The first year vrt on a v8 range rover in this pampered motoring country amounts to in the region of €140k. Even a bog std Yaris Cross attracts a first year vrt hit of €5kplus.
I wonder what the magnitude hit on private car sales would be if the current lenient Irish mor tax regime was introduced in the UK
Its a strange budget as it annoys everyone. ICE purchasers get punished, but there's no carrot to move to EV. This change if I were in the UK would make me more likely to simply purchase a 1-3 year old ICE instead of a brand new ICE. This does nothing to move people to EVs.
In addition, if you think our DC charge cost is bad, have you been to the UK? There's a lot in the 75p-99p per kwh bucket. Insane.
UK cost of public charging is crazy especially on motorways. They do have some large charging sites through.
When the UK originally changed their motor tax rates they didn't keep old rates for older cars like we did in 2008. As a result it put a lot of older stuff off the road back then. Things like the ULEZ allow recent cars with low emissions. So there's no disincentive in the UK to driving a modern low emissions ICE as far as I can see. Though no incentive to move to EV either.
Seems to incentivise PHEVs even if you never charge it.
Similarly fueling up with diesel or petrol at UK motorway services is equally extortionate.
I think those who buy a new V8 Range Rover won't be put off by a couple of grand going on the road tax.
As above, its a heck of a lot less than they would pay here too, by a factor of 10-15X!
Where are you pulling your VRT amounts from? They are wrong, and waaay off on the V8 Range Rover.
Base model Yaris Cross (Luna Hybrid) has a VRT amount of €3,698, and the SWB V8 Range Rover Autobiography has €110,429.
Yes I'm certainly not feeling sympathetic, particularly after many of those people have been benefitting from the Tories rampant overspending for years
