Brochure for the next phase of BusConnects confirmed to start on 24th November 2024. Most of the changes are happening in the Greater Bray Area and along the N11 corridor. There are errors on the map with locations of places, but not the bus routes.

    ROUTES

    • E1 (Ballywaltrim, Bray to Northwood, Ballymun) - Replacing routes 145 and 155.
      • Provides a 24 hour service between Bray and Ballymun, however, will only operate once an hour during the night. Obviously, resources aren't there, but Bray and the N11 corridor could easily support a 30 minute, if not 20 minute frequency during the night.
    • E2 (Dún Laoghaire Mallin Station to IKEA, Ballymun) - Replacing routes 13 (Northside) and 46A.
      • The end of probably Dublin's most famous and flagship route, the 46A. Similar to the E1 to Bray, route E2 could probably support a 30 minute service during the night.
    • L1 (Newtownmountkennedy to Bray Daly Station) - Replacing route 184.
      • The Glenview and Charlesland loops have been removed, returning the route to its routing from about 15 years ago. Should hopefully speed up journey times between Newtown/Kilpedder and Greystones/Bray. Route 131 also now provides an express service between Newtown, Kilpedder and Bray. Timetabling will hopefully allow swift connections between the train in Greystones and routes 131/133 in Newtown/Kilpedder.
    • L2 (Newcastle to Bray Daly Station) - Replacing route 84.
      • Gets rid of a lot of the meandering route around Greystones, which should hopefully speed up journey times. No confirmation yet if every second bus will terminate in Kilcoole.
    • L3 (Greystones/Delgany local) - NEW ROUTE!
      • Takes in much of the meandering routes around Greystones previously served by routes 84 and 184. Some parts of Greystones will now have up to 6 buses an hour to the village and train station.
    • L12 (Ballywaltrim, Bray to Bray Daly Station) - NEW ROUTE!
      • Replaces the 145 diversion via Hebert Road.
    • L14 (Ballywaltrim, Bray to Palmero Estate, Bray) - MOSTLY NEW ROUTE!
      • Replaces the 185 diversion via the Palermo Estate and now provides the Southern Cross and Seafront areas with an all day bus service.
    • L15 (Enniskerry to Bray Daly Station) - Replacing route 185.
      • Direct route from Enniskerry to Bray Daly Station. Frequency is still at once an hour however.
    • L26 (Kilternan to Blackrock Station) - Replacing parts of route 63 and 84.
    • L27 (Leopardstown Valley LUAS Stop to Dún Laoghaire Mallin Station) - Replacing route 63.
    • X1 (Kilcoole to Hawkins Street, Dublin) - Replacing route 84X.
      • 84X is currently the only express route with departures outside of peak hours. Not confirmed yet if these will be kept or not.
    • X2 (Newcastle to Hawkins Street, Dublin) - Replacing route 84X.
      • 84X is currently the only express route with departures outside of peak hours. Not confirmed yet if these will be kept or not. X2 will operate via Cherrywood instead of via Loughlinstown.
    • 19 (Parnell Square, Dublin to Dublin Airport) - Replacing route 11 (Northside).
      • Meandering route from the City to the Airport, however, will operate for up to 21 hours a day, with a first departure time of approx. 03:00!

Interestingly, route 45A (to be replaced by route L11) is the only Bray route that will not change in November. It will change with the Dún Laoghaire routes, which will probably be in a couple of years time.

I heard some people around Glasnevin East are saying they are not happy with the 3am start from the airport for the 19!

19 also gives a connection to the playing pitches on the old Airport Rd (Ballymun Kickhams, Starlights, Na Fianna)

This is brilliant to see. It will be great to see buses finally getting into Northwood. And a 24 hour route at that.

Also happy to see the 19 with an early start. I wonder where the bus stops will go in on the road outside the DCC facility from IKEA?

Also I noticed a typo in their brochure. It mentions this phase serves Clontarf which it doesn't. That should read Glasnevin presumably.

Why would they be unhappy with eearlier departure? Do they think buses driving past will keep them up at night? Utterly bizarre

The 27b already operates in service on the Old Airport Road however has no bus stops on it.

Disappointing that the E1 and E2 will only be hourly at night. But I guess having the two of them should give a 30 minute on the core corridor. Wonder why given 30 minute frequencies didn't seem to be an issue for the G or C spine or indeed the 15, 39a and 41.

As for the L11. That will be taking over the 111s routing from Sallynoggin to DL so I guess it'll be better to wait on that one. It'll be interesting so see how this one goes as it's the first North-South spine. The Cs and Gs have both been East-West

This is the second part of phase 6a - the first part was the N2 which does serve Clontarf.

As you can see from the brochure, this is still phase 6a! It was in two parts. ;-)

The C1/C2 and C3/C4/C5/C6 are effectively two spines within a spine, and were timetabled as such. The C1/C2 and C3/C4/C5/C6 are integrated separately for timetable purposes, and each route is hourly at night.

Similarly the G1 and G2 are individually hourly at night.

The night time frequency of the pre-BusConnects routes aren’t really relevant as those routes will all change service pattern when the relevant spines launch - there will be several spine routes where there is currently a single night time route along that corridor.

I've been told there will be a stop by Ballymun Kickhams

they've got Glenbrook Park and North Delgany the wrong way around for a start. I also wonder why the L3 doesn't do a loop in Delgany to serve Delgany Wood, seems an obvious alternative for turning the bus around (see pic). I'm assuming this route will be all small single deckers so it should be able to get through Delgany village.

Hahaha! If even I'm getting confused, God help the regular punters! It mentions Clontarf and then there is no information for Clontarf in the leaflet. Anyway, there are more important things in life.

At least they are getting the info out early.

I sincerely hope that there is only one moan bag window twitcher complaining about the 19 running very early morning. Maybe we should propose a blockade on their road between 23:00 - 06:00 with nobody on or off the street in those hours so they can "sleep".

Theres already buses stop bays along that section, which were unserved for many years. Only recently did the 155 start to use them, but even then it's only in one direction!

No mention of the 84n or 7N being cancelled in that. If that's the case then that'll boost up the night service southbound

I was also wondering where the 19 will stop at the airport. The existing 16/41/33A/102 stops are at capacity.

The terminus looks to be in Zone 16 from the map in that brochure.

Rock Road services are not being touched in this phase , that will all be done when the B spine is launched.

I'm more talking in the direction of the airport, a stop as close to the Ballymun Road on St. Margaret's Road would be useful. Plenty of space for it on that road. This will be close to the future Northwood Metrolink station as well. It means that that end of Northwood would now have a bus to the airport close by. You could also hop off an E2 and cross the road and board the 19 or vice versa.

The couple of runs of the 84A to Vincent's Hospital are being dropped, much to the "dismay" of Bray commuters. I got that home from Vincent's once and I was the only person on it until Blackrock… 🤣

Parts of the 46N cover Ballinteer and Dundrum so id imagine that will likely be around until the A spine launches at the earliest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,529 ✭✭✭p_haugh

That would be the logical decision, but you never know with the NTA 😅

Jumping in and hope it's not too far off topic.

Is there anywhere on the TFI app that would give me the timetable for the day for different routes, and not just for BusConnect routes? I seem to only be able to find the times within say the next hour or so, but I'd like to be able to see the whole day schedule in order to select a suitable time. I seem to have to go back and put in each hour. It's a bit time consuming and painful! But maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Also, I cannot seem to find the route of a bus on a map. You know, say I'm looking at C3. I know all the stops are on the app but I'd like to see exactly where the stops are! Some of the stop names are confusing. I know there is a map but it's very crowded with all sorts of routes and it doesn't strike me as being intuitive. But again, doh, I might not be doing things right.

Great thread for keeping up with the changes anyway, I check in every so often.

Just another suggestion: take a bus 26 (which normally is quieter and I think ever 10 min peak hours) to Palmerstown and then switch to your preferred bus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,458 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Even still 84N serves to Greystones and isn't covered by E1 so can't see it being dropped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,805 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

No there isn’t. The Bustimes website does however.

    https://bustimes.org/operators/dublin-bus
is your best bet for Dublin Bus routes and

    https://bustimes.org/operators/go-ahead-ireland

will give you the GAI routes

There are full timetables and maps for every route there - just change the date at the top of each route page.

Worth bookmarking the pages for yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭Citrus_8

I doubt you could find full timetables on the TFI app. Timetables are on the operators' websites, for C spine it's Dublin Bus website. Bus stop locations are on the Google Maps.

46N also covers Carrickmines, Ballyogan and part of Kilgobbin Road. It's not clear to me if busconnects will provide a replacement night time service for those areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,049 ✭✭✭thomasj

Time will tell ! Parts of Leixlip that lost it's direct connection to City as part of Busconnects got a nighttime bus service in the form of the C5 - a nighttime variant of the C3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,612 ✭✭✭OscarMIlde

The buses are normally still crammed at Palmerstown. Often the bus won't take any passengers there. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I've used Dubin bus for years, used to commute from UCD to Maynooth. I'm an absolute pro at hopping from service to service, use bustimes.org and RTPI to try to predict how best to do. But it just doesn't work well if the end part of the service is horribly infrequent.

Wonder would it be possible to reroute the 46n could get to take a route similar to the old 44n
