That's the Vodafone and Virgin/UPC joint venture in The Netherlands. It's just a placeholder mistake.

VodafoneZiggo is a Dutch telco joint venture between Liberty & Vodafone Group. Might utilise a dutch esim that allows roaming amongst any of their partners for a connectivity solution - Im sure someone can give a far better technical explanation that me.

Not unusual for a product to utilise a sim service based in another EU country. Tesla use a dutch physcial sim in all of their in UK & Ireland cars.

It was a simple copy/paste mistake on the Irish website, it's Vodafone.

    Irish Website: https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/#table-apple-watch says VodafoneZiggo

UK Website : https://www.apple.com/uk/watch/cellular/#table-apple-watch says Vodafone

It's Vodafone but you need to sign up to their OneNumber Plan which is only available for certain bill payment plans (no pay as you go): https://n.vodafone.ie/shop/onenumber.html

Was chatting with someone from GOMO and they said esim will launch in the first part of the new year. Now no indication as to when exactly but at least its more positive than their straight out no before. Also I know someone who works for eir and staff have been offered esim to test so would make sense I guess.

Also, if i am reading the XML correctly, it is saying that there is a trail from 6th Feb to 10 June? Also, something of interest, the URL ending in ondemandconnectivity.com is not a Three URL but someone else… [EDIT] Looks like other providers use this url with different subdomains, so it might be a standard url…

Even if they did have plans to, the support agents would not be informed until they were trained in for a launch. They absolutely aren't getting updated on stuff like that unless it's very much about to launch.

So, iOS 18.3 released last night/this morning, but looks like the ESim for Apple Watch is still not enabled… yet… Feb 6 is the date listed in the Carrier Bundle… we see what happens then…

it’s Thales Group, it bought Gemalto the company behind one of the first chip based WiFi Calling offering, TG is Aero & Defence with a focus on electronics, including comms.

This looks like a fairly significant cock up by Vodafone with their eSIM product.

FFS, typical Vodafone, outsource everything ruin a company, sell off divisions then have all your 200M+ customers lose confidence they are actual secure.

    customers worldwide

Vodafone’s IT system is truly shambolic so hardly surprising that it could be exploited like that. Ironic that it was via eSIM considering half the time eSIM activation glitches when trying to activate with VF. It’s not the brand it once was

Vodafone moved to Oracle in the early 2000s when it outsourced most things ongoing, Siebel (seebill: but have the time you can’t even see your bill! Orcacle bought Seibel inhouse and it got worse and worse, Telstra was falling to fits like Vodafone U.K. using it was Vodafone’s titanic and the rest of the third parties were the water coming in.

I was issued a Vodafone U.K. (bill pay) sim with someone’s existing payg nunber, they said they sorted it with the Port in, roaming (free) in AU all usage was inclusive but i kept getting U.K. to UK texts charges at payg rates whilst all my roaming was inclusive and I said that’s impossible, sort it, too 6 months and a lot of dispute they were wrong to get nearly £1000 written off, hopeless.

Don’t know if they still use Oracle or Siebel but highly likely they do.

20 years building a worldwide brand and the latter 20 years selling it off & destroying the rest of it, continuing the third party contract scam.

Tried the Watch Cellular setup again and this time was asked to login to my Three Account. Did so, but got the following error:

Are there any technical reasons why eir won't release eSim? Or are they just up to the eircom ways of old and can't be arsed?

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

Most likely, fact is sims are expensive and not recyclable, you’d think free esims and charging for a physical sim to non subsidise them would be paramount in 2025.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 879 ✭✭✭feargantae

Jaysus, remember when there'd be a charge for a replacement sim? I remember Meteor used to charge a tenner for it! Nowadays it seems they all reserve the right to charge but in practice never do. Or at least that's been my experience with all 3 main networks

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

I remember way back Orange charged £20 unless you were one of their £6 a month insurance policy holders!

Scam if I ever! OfcoN like CoNreg: yeah that’s ok, even if it is a socio economic customer, Nazis!

on topic, but slightly on a different direction, I find the Saily eSIM fantastic for travel, there are others, but most look for a copy off your passport or other documents, none of that with Saily

  • Site Banned Posts: 392 ✭✭ScotsGoneIRE

to be honest I find Sky Ireland the best €15 for UK & EU unlimited roaming… well for the next 42 mins of orders at least ;)

Keepgo is the cheapest eSim I've found for using in as a stopgap in my Samsung Watch 6 until Three sort their sh1t out. It's about 2euro for the first GB (and gets cheaper) but crucially there's no expiry date so if you only want to leave your phone at home occasionally it costs next to nothing to keep recieving WhatsApps, emails etc.
