Dispute with mod

I’ll cut to the chase here.

I feel I am unfairly being targeted by @Beasty in the Current Affairs forum. I have received my second 3 day ban in 2 weeks for a comment they deem to be “uncivil” and it was nothing of the sort. No idea how to resolve this but this has to stop, I am not a troll and partake in discussion. I have received warnings for more egregious comments but this recent one is not even close.

Eager to get a resolution to this and to stop this carry on.

Moved to Helpdesk instead, as this is a broader complaint, and DRP only covers specific warnings and bans (or not in the case of CA).

    sorry about that.

Hope to get a proper resolution soon, and please don’t just lock this thread like the last time I asked a question. I would prefer a proper discussion

Same here banned 2 times on a row for a so called link dump, while other posters are constantly doing this.

Define a link dump? Or is it you just disagree with the poster on certain issues and abuse your power?

Seems I am not the only one then.

Can we come to some sort of resolution here, and not uneven bans or warnings handed out with no definition.

For the record, this is the post I was banned for. The ban is very heavy handed.

It certainly is - and very odd, given that I was told by a poster that I was "white knighting on the internet" and had no interest in the topic being discussed except in the service of my own agenda, and I got a 24 hour ban (again from Beasty) for mentioning the comment (to disagree with it) - a comment that was made about me!

So he's allowed to say that I don't care - unlike you! - and I'm not even allowed to say he's wrong.

(I'm currently banned from the forum so can't see if the original comment about me is still visible - but I bet it is.)

A very sensible rule would be a time limit on all mods, so they can mod for 2 or 3 years and then they have to take a year or 2 off, a lot of clubs and societies have that rule and it keeps them fresh, and it would allow the mods to make a healthier life outside of this site

boards.ie was the best site in Ireland until about 15 years ago, now I'd be too embarrassed to tell a real world person that I still look at it

If you find my comment funny, useful, interesting or even annoying then please like and subscribe to boards.ie

Jeez, here we go. Was impressed with how quiet it has been in here and in “Dispute Resolution”. Mostly just been, multiple, users looking for regional forum access. And people, continuously, say the site is dead?!

Wasn’t there a load of new rules set up for CA after a load of you complained about it? The vocal minority got their way and now that it’s not working out how they like it’s time to attack the mods…again.

My understanding was the new rules were set up to stop re-reg users spamming the place.

This has nothing to do with that.

Here we go, Mr SJW himself, like clockwork, you gunning for a moderator position or something?

How about leaving it to posters who have disputes with a mod on certain issues and keeping out of it.

There is a simple solution to your “problem”, change your posting style. Mods can’t sanction you if you don’t give them any reason to.

And you think it’s the mod, or admins, who are the problem?

That's a very good point. Term limits. I'm sure most would be on board with that. Long as they are balanced. That's what the issue is here, they are not, and haven't been for a long time.

I don't want this to go off topic, I am hoping for a proper resolution, not suggestions to change my posting style. They are words, not clothes.

What are you doing starting a public thread then? Is it just to have a whinge?

You are just dragging this off topic, for what I do not know.

No one asked you to post, you did that on your own. I am very clear what the topic is about, it is not hard to follow.

Same here, I've had similar issue with the mod in question, I was going to start a thread on here, but you beat me to it, so I figured why not use the same one to try and resolve the issue.

None active, right now. I’ve racked up a few in my time. Some warranted, some I felt were “harsh”. Would PM the mod on those occasions.

I will say this, I’ve never had the “prison bars” on my avatar. That’s never a good look.

You might feel a mod is “after you” but, really, you’ve just put yourself on the radar and you’re continuing on with the same posting style. Not you, personally, I mean in a general user sense.

This is a public discussion on a message board site.

The OP said “Eager to get a resolution to this and to stop this carry on.” as such, I suggested a way to stop the carry on.

PM the mods then. No egos here, just a regular “concerned user” offering a suggestion. You don’t have to take it.

But, as I’ve stated previously, things aren’t going to change unless you do, yourself.

Yes a full definition of "link dumping" would be appropriate

I received a warning and 1 day ban for it, but I see that others can do the same and get away with it, a fair balance for all should apply

If proof or facts are requested, a "link dump" should be allowed without a full essay explanation imho

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

Offering a suggestion is hardly any kind of “moderation”. Maybe if I’d typed it out in bold and told the user what to do but that’s not the case, clearly.

    It didn't concern you either?

    image.png

I've also been previously banned for link dumps and/or breaking special stipulations in the election thread so no you're evidently not being specially targeted for bias or any other conspiracy theory. In fact you'll see a bit of a ban-wave around the timing of that post, all of people I'm reasonably certain you'd disagree with politically.

Not saying I was very happy with the ruling but lets dispel the myth its being applied with an abuse of bias.

And term limits? Boards is not a democracy.
