That's not a valid reason for the Superintendent to refuse. The Superintendent is as amenable to the law as the rest of us. My approach would be to speak with the Superintendent and advise that the reason given (which you must receive in writing) is not valid, that failure to resolve at this stage will result in an appeal in the District court. It clearly indicates that this individual has insufficient training and/or education in firearms. Also, that you'll be seeking court costs and expenses from both the AGS and the Superintendent personally, as he is acting ultra vires in the matter of the refusal.

Too late. There is a 30day limit in which to appeal.

From the moment you receive the refusal in writing that is …Two can play that game too.

SO, grant letter for daughters gun arrived dated 29th May.

Five months and 3 weeks since process started.

    Cavan.

The last twist of the drsma was having to hand in my 3 licences to get them updatd

Moved into a newbuild beside the original ùfarmhouse, so eircode was now different.

Was afraid they'd be lost or something, but turned up today in post today.

Just on the above. I should have posted sooner I got sorted have my rifle as the others here say don't be afraid to stand up for yourselves we are not breaking any laws by questioning a super as to why he doesn't want to follow them. Know ur rights study up on the gun laws a little and the tables will tilt in ur favour.

granted application in yesterdays post. March 30 - June 20. Over 11 weeks

To be fair to the FO in Kerry he said that they are stretched and it should have been issued sooner. Just glad to have it sorted!

"Pre ban " SACF cleared on Friday with about 17 days overdue in Henry St Limerick.Rang Thursday to see what the Rory is to be told the chief had cleared it and it was in the mail Friday. So good enough service there from AGS.

Unless the gun is physically incapable by design of taking more than five rounds and has a detachable mag.Its default capacity should be ten on everyones application/renewal.

My FO I think is holding things up due to no training she knows me very well and once the three months comes near I will be messaging her to update

Best of luck with your application.

No training - as in "She has no specific training on/in FO job" ?

It's not the first time and it won't be the last when someone is thrown into a job/position they don’t have the knowledge/experience and have to learn on the spot/job.

On a side note, there is nothing stopping you from politely asking for an update via txt/email/phone call.

End of day you’re only asking if there are any issues/more info required/etc/etc regarding your application.

It may surprise you but there is no formal training for firearms licensing within AGS, and that means FOs, inspectors, supers and chief supers.

That's one of the reasons why it is so drastically different in different counties, and how there are shakeups when AGS promotions happen and new untrained guards are put into firearms licensing.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

any update on the survey results? - last update I saw was 30 April. Also, it would be really helpful to know how many responses each county’s average results are based on to get a better idea of what to expect. I’ve just submitted my application form and I’m waiting (im)patiently for my first ever licence (.22 bolt action rifle). The survey suggests just over a month for our county but partner waited over 4 months earlier this year for a shotgun licence. We did submit his answers but that was after 30 April so obviously wouldn’t have been included in the results update.
How long after submitting forms do you think it’s ok to try and follow up? I don’t want to be a nuisance but it’s tough being patient 😂

dropped in my first firearm application form at Kildare station 29/08. No phone call or mail yet. Hopefully this process will be shorter than 3 months 😆

rifle license arrived Friday 16 weeks but I did get a call from the super saying it would be granted three weeks ago

A friend of mine initiated his application for a deer calibre rifle in March. He has been a FAC holder of rifles and shotguns for in excess of 40 years. He still has not received his approval letter. Having made a number of enquiries of the firearms officer he has been assured that all is in order. It's with "..the Superintendent." It has been asserted the the "Superintendent" never issues the approval until he runs out of time. I think this is an abuse of both authority and process. The applicant and the application are both in good order but are not dealt with due to the capricious and arbitrary behaviour of one individual. In the meantime a number of his landowners have been in contact wondering when he might get started on reducing their problems.

    Was this Kildare town?

Was this Kildare town, I dropped one in 7 days ago and got the form today so 7 day turnaround for my 3rd firearm.

Wow, that was fast. Yeah it is send to Kildare town station. it was my first firearm application, I haven’t got the letter yet, only have my home inspection done last week.

First app takes a bit of time, end of day it should (but within time frame) as more paperwork and many checks to do, etc.

Kildare Town has a small but dedicated team dealing with licensing and they are super-efficient.

I once dropped a sub in late Monday evening (addressed to FO) and 9-15am the following morning the FO called me to double check some details, that’s what I call excellent customer service.

Happy days, nothing wrong with seven weeks, actually it's very good for first application.

All you need now is the magic ammo we are all chasing.

Just did the survey, would be better if it gave a more precise timing as some people's licenses happen in less than a single month and no option to specify this.
