Yet another reminder that UAE and Saudi plans to make the part of the world a hub for travel and tourism will fail because some in the region are stuck in the BCE era

They need to show their hardliners they will do something, but know they can be flattened. Maybe some NK style bombing of the sea?

It's considerate of Iran to give everyone time to prepare again.

I suppose it could be in part psychological, but I wonder is this all being choreographed behind the scenes through intermediaries to avoid a full blown war?

Another night and Iran did nothing. They must be trying to troll Israel at this stage or are unsure if they should proceed with their 'revenge'

I think the show of force from the US has probably had an impact disuading them. Too big a risk for Iran with so many additional US assets in place now around the region. I don't think anything big will happen from Iran directly at this stage.

Iran knew from the last time the US would do this. So why didn't they attack within in a day or two. It's all part of a strategy to make the Israelis sweat but at the same time avoid an all out war when they do eventually attack.

Hopefully the back room diplomacy is making progress to prevent a large regional war.

Or they ran out of missiles last time they wasted them on futile attempts

Iran has no real winning move , do nothing kind of looks week but their leaders must know they would be the first to be targeted and taken out directly if there was a serious attack on Israel

That's it. If they were intent on doing serious damage and didn't fear the consequences of doing so we would have seen an attack fairly quickly. The delay is partly psychological, but also due to them wanting to take the heat out of the situation. Israeli intelligence likely has the Iranian military compromised at the highest level, which as you say suggests the Iranians leadership are probably thinking we could be next if we go too far .

It's hard to avoid the feeling that the Israeli government isn't doing everything it can to provoke an attack by Iran. It's easy taunt when you have the U.S. behind you. Frightening to think that the self styled greatest democracy in the world is backing a despotic regime to the hilt.

I have been going back and forth in my mind as to whether Iran will attack Israel. I think on the balance of probability they will. Seyed Mohamed Marandi is usually a good source inside Iran of what's going on there and he's convinced they will strike and strike hard in pursuit of deterrence against further Israeli action.

I don't see that logic as working as Israel will not let an Iranian strike go unanswered and the Iranians know this. They don't want war yet feel obliged to defend their honour. I really hope Netanyahu and his despotic regime are removed. It may not fix things in Israel completely but it would be a start. The ultimate answer is a Palestinian state from the river to the sea.

The US is not even close to being the greatest democracy in the world. That accolade goes to Norway, proving that strong democracies don't go around starting wars.

The US is a flawed democracy and comes in 29th, pipped by Malta, Estonia and the Czech Republic but better than Portugal and Italy, in fairness.

Yes but when you have the strongest army in the world you can behave like so.

That’s just the way it is. Until a better choice offers itself up we are where we are.

Who would you rather keep some sort of world order and world peace?

    Russia, China?

At a guess you would have to assume they are taking advice from China and Russia too so there is going to be a certain "long game" being encouraged, building up alliances between Shia and Sunni perhaps a thing not conceivable in the past.

According to some sources in Iran, no attack is likely before the new round of ceasefire talks in Doha. This is really sending a signal to the American Government to pressure Bibi into agreeing a ceasefire deal. Whatever happens, I doubt he will get his wish to draw America into a direct conflict with Iran.

I wasn't able to see some of the latest posts until tonight. This has been happening on a couple of other threads too. Is anyone else having this issue?

It's mentioned in the feedback thread as a "fix" implemented to the site last week by Vanilla and it is happening across many threads.

Hezbollah reported to be attacking an Israeli military base in the north now. Iron dome not operating (suspiciously to say the least) so they are freely hitting the base.

According to channel 12 in Israel something could be happening tonight.

And we'll find out about by tea time tomorrow on boards, as soon as it glitches again!

Hard to say isn't it. Huge diplomatic push by countries.

But also lot of reports of substantial Iranian and Iranian proxy military movement.

The decision makers in Iran must be under so much pressure; the hard liners on one side, and the diplomatic pressure on the other, along with the careful thoughts on the right calbrated response.

I almost feel sorry for them. 😜

Rumour mill for what it’s worth is a strike at 2am local time or in 2 hours.
