Israel expects everyone to attack Iran if they are attacked. Another couple of months they will start imploding if Iran does nothing.

Tail wagging the dog again. I wonder how they'd feel if those countries told them to stop stoking the fires and behave?

I dont think it ever comes down to a single personality you can make as assessment of what a country like Israel is going to do for instance here why would Israel go for a ceasefire when half of Hamas is still operating? more likely they keep going until hamas is crushed completely

Well you can ascertain alot by how someone like Bibi has been confinually been elected over the years. You won't have any solution while you have him and Hamas on the opposite side. As I mentioned even Gallant doesn't believe you can achieve total victory .You can win conventional wars with military force but you rarely,if ever, can defeat an ideology through military means alone. The best you can do is weaken hamas military then try to turn away would be recruits by showing them an alternative. This war with the indiscriminate killing and human right abuses of detainees is ensuring Hamas will have plenty of recruits going forward.

there is no winding back the clock though would be my working assumption of what the Israelis do, some form of decimating Hamas and pushing the problem outside their borders is more likely. Hiding behind civilians wont work with Israel

The Americans according to Michael Clarke regularly called off missions against Isis because the attacks would have led to a disproportionate number of civilians being killed.

Yet for Israel dropping a 2000 pound bomb on a refugee camp which they know will kill scores of civilians is fine . The excuse that Hamas members were nearby does not not justify such an act under the Geneva convention. You may disagree but let's says a missile struck a military target in Tel Avi and killed scored of Israeli civilians in the process, would you deem that as acceptable because the IDF had a facility near civilian infrastructure. You might not, but many pro Israelis would object to it

The Americans have pointed out to Israel repeatedly during this war they don't do enough to minimise civilian casualties It's likely why the ICJ have sought arrest warrants for Bibi. As a long as this mentality of if force doesn't work, use more force with reckless disregard,Hamas or some variant of it will emerge. That long term suits those in Israel who don't want a settlement. The last thing many in Likud want is a moderate opposition in Gaza long term. That's why Bibi propped up Hamas in a bid to maintain the status quo. Anyway this is the wrong thread for this subject. So I wont reply on this subject anymore in this thread

Iran is definitely sitting tight. The U.S. is putting enormous pressure on Tehran not to retaliate against Israel for the killing of Ismael Haniyeh. The pressure is coming via diplomacy and build up of military power in the region. Sadly the U.S. for shameful political reasons permits Netanyahu to be a bully. He knew he could have Haniyeh killed inside Iran and still be backed to the hilt by Blinken/Biden etc.

For internal political reasons Iran must respond. There seems no obvious off ramp as a ceasefire in Gaza is unlikely as it would be political suicide for Netanyahu. Iran may hold off hoping that Israel implodes internally from the economic pressures it has to be under. It also knows that Netanyahu wants it to respond. He has been itching for the U.S. and Iran to engage militarily against each other. Netanyahu fears Iran's possible nuclear capabilities and may wish for the U.S. to destroy it.

Hard to see how any Iranian military strike against Israel won't cause retaliation.

I think it's great that Iran has been willing or convinced to hold off so far. Helps reduce the risks of a major war. Hopefully the diplomats find a solution before the Generals create one.

Hezbollah tried and failed to hit the mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv. Well it's clear Hezbollah are not capable of executing a like for like response because if they were Nethanyu would have second thoughts about ordering some of the assassinations to begin with. It's just further proof Israel can pretty much do as they please on their enemies territory.
