I had the same problem, had to change the thermostat on the Immersion. Done by regular electrician or plumber. No problem since.

I thought to turn off the Eddi as max temperature reached early today.... I am not sure if it has 'tripped' ( hard to get to the cap with button on it). I see there is option to turn off on the Eddi but also 'bypass'. Which setting would be best?

If the overtemperature is tripping on the immersion, its normal thermostat is set too high, or has failed.

Some immersions you can replace the thermostat and some you cant.

I have already checked temperature on thermostat and it is 65 I think which is low enough? . I also set the Eddie to 'check' temperature every 120 minutes. It is a relatively new immersion less than 10 yrs old. It will take a while to get around to organising an electrician.

I'd turn it down more, and if it keeps tripping the button, it needs to be replaced, is it one of the replaceable ones? It's not that hard a fix. It's just a wire in and a wire out.

We have solar panels and an Eddi a few months and delighted with them. Up to now the Eddi hasn’t been thought about much as our gas boiler also heats the water.
Now that our heat isn’t on we are using Eddi to heat water for two power showers. Our installer told us tank 1 was “sink” from old and tank2 was “bath”. We’ve run out of hot water once or twice after kids have had showers and I was curious to whether the tanks are maybe mis labeled.

Over the weekend I “experimented” and separately boosted each tank. When boosting tank 1the draw was 2.7kw and for tank 2 was only 1.9kw.

Would this mean that tank 1 is in fact bath and tank 2 is sink? I’ve changed the priority now to tank 1 but curious if that’s the issue.

    Thanks!

    Great, thank you!

We got a new tank that’s very insulated so it’s hard todo the old school way of checking by feeling the side of it.

I see it says it’ll heat tank 1 first on priority and then tank2, but that’s meaningless really if tank 1 is the full tank is it?

If it's a combined immersion, I wouldn't bother with the short one at all except for a quick boost for needing water now.

They would share the same thermostat so once the "sink" is hot it also turns off the "bath" element

The amount of water heated will likely only go to the top of the coil that the gas uses.

Great, thanks! Glad we’ve realised they were mislabelled before the summer is over and we would have thought the Eddi just wasn’t as good as we expected.

True for sure. That thermostat has it's limitations.

    Hi

We have a gas boiler that we use to heat the water.

We recently got an Eddi with our solar panels and any time i've used the shower on a sunny day the water is luke-warm at best.

AFAIK the Tank 1 / 2 wiring (tank 1 sink, tank 2 bath) is correct but I'm wondering if there's anything else to check?

We have a power shower (with a motor unit in the hot press) if that helps (sorry I'm not very technical!)

    Thanks

Merged a few eddi posts together.

How much energy was put into the tank by the eddi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭mathie

It was on for about 2 hours and seemed to pull around 3kwph.

It stopped heating it. I thought then it'd be hot enough.

Do you have a myenergi app?

How I tested mine (and realised they were set up opposite!), was waited until the tank wasn’t full, evening time worked for me . Then did a manual boost on tank 1, checked how much Eddi was drawing on the app. Then stopped the boost and did the same for tank 2. It was then I spotted tank 1 was pulling almost 3kwh but tank 2 was only pulling under 2kwh.

It’s fairly basic but it worked! Now the water feels much hotter for showers because we are using tank 1 as priority. Actually when I figured it out I also renamed them “full tank” and “half tank” to make it easier for me!

Apologies if this already covered in the thread, but I don't now how to effectively search for a specific issue.

Tank one is immersion. Tank 2 is floor heating mat. I want eddi to ignore tank 2. Where in the settings is this?

After hot water is heated, I want surplus to be exported.

    Edited to add.
There is no thermostat connected to the heating mat

To my knowledge there isn't a way.

You could put a switch/smart relay between the heating pad and the eddi to do what you want to do

As @graememk says, I don't think this is possible using eddi settings alone. I have a similar setup and achieve this through Home Assistant which turns off the eddi after x kWh has been sent to the radiators.

All I can think of is an isolation switch between the EDDI and mat for you to manually turn on/off as desired

Recently got solar panels and an eddi. Eddi connected to my immersion tank (It's a 2.7 - 3kw 230-240v
Heatcon model ELE-14-IN-800-FAB - must be 15 years old ish). Noticed a day or two after everything was set up and running that I'd get the warning triangles in the MyEnergi app and when I checked the EDDI box itself it said Fault code 48. Checked the manual and fault codes don't go anywhere near that high so assumed it must meant fault code 4 and 8 or possibly fault code 4 or 8. Fault code 8 made some sense in that the load was too high so I turned the EDDI down from 13A to 12A in case that was a problem. Sadly after a day or so, the same thing happened except this time it was fault code 47. 7 seems to mean to low of a load so I've put it back to 13A now and adjusted the Supply Grid Limit from 63A to 60A so will see how that goes.

Not sure whether it'll make it work permanently or not but figured worth a try before getting someone out.

Also, noticed that Local Comms Lost is a message I get every now and again too and when that happens the whole EDDI is frozen (no menus or anything work) so that's also got me thinking it's some kind of power issue where it either has too much or too little and it basically breaks the EDDI causing it to freeze and needs a reset to fix it. Could also I guess be the immersion or immersion thermostat (set to 60) causing it? I've tried setting the thermostat on immersion to 40 as well but same thing happened.

Do you have a thermostat on your immersion linked directly to your EDDI here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭cobham

There is a thermorstat on the immersion. It must be linked somehow to Eddi for it to trip when overheats? There is a temperature setting on the Eddi but not sure if that is actual temperature of water. There is no info on the MyEnergi app about temperature.

How is your EDDI getting communication from the Grid CT clamps?

I have a Harvi so I think it's that? Harvi is down beside the Solis Inverter and the EDDI is up in the Hot Press beside the wifi router.

Where in the menus is the temp setting on the EDDI?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,214 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

It could be a communication issue (the yellow triangles) if the distance is far….

Don't worry about temp settings on the EDDI, this only comes into play if you installed a relay and temp sensors which you have not mentioned.

The cylinder immersion is telling the EDDI max temp reached as all of these immersions have an internal temp stat and safety cut off point

The EDDI is connected to WiFi (router is a few metres from the EDDI).
Harvi I assume connected to EDDI via RF is it? Would there be a certain colour blinking light or similar on the Harvi if it did lose connection to the EDDI?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,214 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Yes, Harvi connects via proprietary RF, I'd give MyEnergi UK a call, their customer service guys are very knowledgeable,

There's nothing on the Harvi to indicate it has lost connection to the EDDI

    Will do.

Although, the lost Comms every now and again is the least of my problems because Fault Code 47 is now appearing on the EDDI a few times everyday sadly. Will have to get someone out to have a look I suppose!
