I am not in any way trolling but this sole win was in my opinion fortuitous at best.

Then again there were only a handful of Waterford fans actually there to witness it .

Say what you like about him, and plenty have, but he's the best player in Ireland bar none this year. Absolutely imperious today.

I’d say bring your opinion back to the cork page because it’s certainly not wanted here 🙂

I don’t know what to think to be honest. We performed better in the round robin than ever before but still didn’t get out. We’re very unlucky not to get out to be fair. Should Davy stay on? If he lets them play from the league on next year then maybe he should. If he goes back to madness then no. Yes he got them fighting and never giving up and all that but shouldn’t that be a basic for any manager?

Hopefully we’ll have have everyone back next year and go again. We definitely need some freshness in the team to move on. Hopefully the club scene will unearth some decent prospects to strengthen the panel. It’s a long wait now until the next game.

Would be good to have a Waterford hurling podcast for next year. Just throwing the idea out there for someone to think about over the long winter.

I mentioned it here yesterday and then Joe Canning said it on the Sunday Game last night, did Davy give the team the best chance of winning the game yesterday with how he set up? I don’t think he did. Everyone knew the situation yesterday and everyone knows how good Limerick are yet there was no rabbit from the hat gameplan which was needed. Cork were in the same situation as Waterford two weeks ago and went at them with everything they had. Did we do that yesterday? I can’t say we did. That’s nothing on the players, they ran themselves into the ground, but I do feel there was a chance to really change things up and just go at Limerick. That didn’t happen and in the first half yesterday at times, we were treated to a full forward line of one player with nobody within 40 yards of him. Yesterday was a huge ask and pretty much everyone deep down was expecting the result that followed but you’re out if you lose for gods sake just take them on and see what happens.

Limerick looked like they had two extra players the whole time, that gang tackle thing that they do is unbelievable at forcing turnovers and I dont think the 10 point gap in the end flattered them, if anything when we were two points down with 10 minutes to go it a case of "how the hell did that happen/ how are we still in this) Waterford fought hard but some simple errors didn't help matters and the ref gave us absolutely nothing.

Such a pity we couldn't close it out vs Tipp.

At the moment it's a 2 horse race between himself and Shane O Donnell, with O'Donnwll slight favourite

I just watched The Sunday Game there. The usual complaints about inconsistent referees. There was a show stopper from Joe Canning. He said he was disappointed to see the Dublin management looking for a red card for David Burke’s self indulgent stupid tackle. “No player wants to get another player sent off” said Joe the rock of sportsmanship.

I must have imagined that game a few years ago when Waterford were beating Galway out the gate. Kieran Bennett was chasing a Galway player across the pitch when Joe tried to obstruct him. Bennett threw out a harmless flick to clear the way. Down went Joe as the half time whistle went. There was immediate concern. Would Joe ever hold a pint let alone a hurl again. A crack team of medics worked on him, helping him off with his arm cocooned in his sleeve to support the horrific injury. At half time the commentary team gave us news of the sub who would be coming in (who told them that?).

The second half started with a red card for Kieran Bennett and, miracle of miracles, the novenas were answered and Joe manfully made it back for the second half.

He used to be my favourite non Waterford hurler, but, just like him, I can’t stand hypocrisy or fellas trying to get someone sense sent off (you are in my notebook too Morrissey).

wasn’t that the game that finished off the bold Joe? He’s a forgotten man already.

“Waterford's 14 points yesterday the lowest point total in Munster round-robin this year. Only 4th time in 20 tallies that the 20-point barrier wasn't broken.

Waterford averaged 24 pts in previous 3 games, that scoring slump their downfall, flagging in 2nd and 4th quarters”

Above from Fintan O Toole 42.ie . Whatever about limerick match and while overall our points against was not the worst or second worst to me it was the biggest contributory factor in not progressing over the whole campaign . Note not suggesting we go back to a sweeper even if we were unlucky lessons still have to be learned .

Conor Gleeson I think? That was a great performance that day.

Speaking of which is he finished this season? Didn't see any mention of him

Sour grapes from me here but its absolutely ridiculous that Offaly and Laois get a pass to the AI series ahead of the 4th place teams in both provinces.

A system where 1st plays 4th and so on across the two provinces would be so much better or at least have Galway play Waterford and the winners of that plus the winners of Laois V Offaly go onto play Cork and Wexford if you wanted to keep the pathway there from the Joe McDonagh.

Yeah it's a bit farcical but similar was said in the Championship thread but was dismissed by posters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 137 ✭✭fuinneamh

It's the jeopardy that makes the Munster championship. We've had our chance and we weren't good enough. If Offaly or Laois beat the third placed team, well then their good enough to go on. It's unlikely and it's usually a glorified challenge game for the third placed teams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭cbwfd

Ah the jeopardy would still be there and better still Tipp would still have had a chance the last day out so it further reduces the chance of that dead rubber.

Whatever about the winners of the Joe McDonagh but the losers getting a place just doesn't make sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,682 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Munster teams don't get the chance to try out 'squad players' like in Leinster against the likes of Carlow, Antrim, Laois etc

Plenty of Waterford fans there to be seen when the Cork supporters started leaving early

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,703 ✭✭✭decies

yep it just makes the current hurling championship set up look like a farce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭hurlaway

Laois and Offaly have reached the final of their competition but waterford ateam that has never been better than fourth in the round robin and have won only 3 or 4 matches since it started should go ahead of them now that's farcical

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,682 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

big difference playing the likes of Limerick and Clare etc than Down and Meath etc each week

Do like the Football, play the Munster and Leinster championships as knockout, use them for seeding and have a group stage then

True but l don't think there should be a reward for losing most of your matches, like your idea re. the championship
