That you have to go all the way back to what looked an accidental incident in that hammering to get your little point scored is telling. Joyce said they were going appeal that one as it was completely accidental but in light of the broken jaw he rang offering an apology and thought it fairer they took the punishment. The classy way to deal with an incident in stark contrast to Harte afterwards on Saturday accusing a player who had to go off injured of theatrics

McKinless injured Galway's best player and also eye gouged Sean Kelly in that game you referenced, how do you expect fans to react? Seeing as you're so up with social media, what's your opinion on the multiple posts from Derry fans saying they were ashamed of their players actions on Saturday? Wasn't just an isolated incident

What has that got to with anything on here? Cop yourself on with that dog whistling nonsense.

Getting a bit nervous about the Dubs coming to Pearse Stadium on Sunday. Bit of a bogey team and they are going well.

Only thing we can do is go out and support the lads at home. Loads of tickets still available!

Thanks for not crossing the line into politics. Oh wait...

I couldn't give a monkeys if it was a player from Derry, Leitrim, Carlow or outer Mongolia. It was a cowardly stamp by McKinless and I hope the GAA come down hard on the thug.

Do or die might suit them, its either into the Leinster Final or (most likely) out of the Championship altogether.

If Shefflin and the players can't get themselves up for that, then we've no business continuing into June anyway.

Concannon and Morrissey don't make the panel. Cathal Mannion only fit for the bench.

Only positive is Kevin Cooney appears on the standby list. Don't win Sunday that will be of little comfort.

Cian O'Sullivan is a big loss for Dublin at the weekend. They've still enough to beat us however so we'd want to have the minds right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

Dublin normally not great away from home but it looks like it will only be a stay of execution. A poor KK team will beat us in the LF and a Munster team will end our year shortly after.

The team is completely unsettled, no one knows, not even the players, who'll be playing and in what position on any given day. They look like a group who don't believe in the setup and don't have the will to give it their all as a result. Once you're 10% off it in championship hurling you're toast.

Jayz. Hurlers gone. Time for a change I think.

Lots of lads on that team now way off county pace but to think we swapped Micheál Donoghue for that lemon is the biggest joke of all. 1980s hurling for 3 years and the results to match it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭FintanMcluskey

Micheál Donoghue had identical results in 2019.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Colm Lyons in 2019 didn't do us alot of favours in Parnell Park that day either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

Yes but was playing a far better brand of hurling. Shefflins tactics are antiquated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Topcat32

Is your club hurling championship structure with a huge amount of average teams anticipated too, do you ever see much fight from a talented Galway team when things go wrong anticipated too, brilliant when on the front foot though, is the abuse county players get in club football and hurling anticipated, but yeah blame it on Henry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 597 ✭✭✭Topcat32

Galway hurling is antiquated, don't know why you expect Henry to work a miracle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

Shefflin certainly offered zero innovation anyways. Two man full-forward lines and a regression every year. Great player but I don't think he has enough for intercounty management.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

Galway clubs win the all ireland regularly. In my opinion our player development is poor, often favouring big name clubs and not looking to develop talented players, instead going with larger less skilfull underage talent in a win now mentality. It wins us minor all irelands and costs us senior success.

But there is no doubt, 4yrs of evidence bears it out, Shefflin is miles out of his depth. He won't get the KK gig in the future as a result. Tactically niave and unwilling/unable to adapt or change direction.

reality is we are where we are for a reason. Let’s be honest who was the last top class player we brought through . I would honestly say Conor whelan and that’s 9 years ago . Our minors won all Ireland’s because you will win them through skill . But skill won’t win u 20s and there on up . It’s more about physicality from there on . The top young lads have got very little help on S And C side of game after they leave minor . Totally neglected by county board . They have a lot to answer for . Unless there’s radical changes the next few years are gonna be bleak .

Worst season for a long while but its been in the post for us.

As a Kilkenny person I totally agree but could see that as plain as day some years ago when successful Galway minors weren't pushing on at Under 20. I can only presume that Henry Shefflin could see it too and just hoped he could squeeze an All Ireland out of the older players. Bringing in Eamonn O'Shea only confused matters. Him and Liam Sheedy may very well be the next management team.

If Henry does stay (and I think that it will be his decision to stay or go), then it needs to be for another 3 years. This team needs to be rebuilt with a definite style of play and that is a 3 year job. If he goes, then I would think Eamon O'Shea is a Galway manager in waiting.

I've always thought that Galway need to have momentum. We can't really lose one week then raise our game a week later the way other teams can. We need to be planning on winning the Walsh Cup, League, Leinster then AI and get the momentum that winning brings. I'm not sure that Henry ever got that - letting the League slip and focusing on later in the year never works for us.

I will say that I have been very critical of the county board over the years but I think the current county board has done a lot right and has been very supportive of all teams. However, they need to do something to connect the team with the supporters again. Galway people also need to get out and support their team but the team needs to give them something to cheer. The county board have to be more active on this. There is a of competition in Galway at the moment with Rugby, Football & Soccer and we don't want Hurling left behind.

What was on display yesterday is not a true reflection of galway hurling, we are better than that and there will always be hurlers in galway its just a matter of getting the set up right. I thought Shefflin was poor this year very similar to Donoghue in 2019 both bringing in unfit Joe Cooney and Johnny Glynn. The players yesterday showed very little hunger or appetite for dirty work, Fintan Burke was the only one that put up his hand. As mentioned before Anthony Cunningham clear-out is required and a galway man as manager.

Don't think O'Shea would be a great no. 1, better as a coach. Tipp lads would mainly be of that opinion anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

There wasn't a single sign of anyone else's influence this year. It was copy and paste from last year and the year before. O Shea was brought in but unless he was also of the opinion that pumping long ball into our forwards was the way to go, it would look like he had little to no say. I also agree that he doesn't strike me as a no.1 either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,742 ✭✭✭Grats

I was in Salthill for the Kilkenny v Galway match and it was obvious from watching E O'Shea on the sideline that he had a major say. Interestingly, Liam Sheedy was in the stand that day when Tipp were playing in Limerick. He clearly wasn't on media duty. The County Board may already have Henry's replacement lined up. Sheedy won't take risks. The pay is good but do Galway have the players!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,333 ✭✭✭cosatron

Galway don't have the players to win the all ireland at the moment but we have the players to be allot better than what was served up this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,324 ✭✭✭threeball

I thought O'Sheas mantra was always about creating space and playing the ball into that space. Any videos I saw of him coaching online seemed to support this and the way Tipp played when he was there also would. If so, then we saw none of that in the KK game or the Dublin game.

The county board would be better addressing the issues further down the line rather than lining up a big name for the senior job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭Butson

We don't. This is the problem. Galway hurling public is delusional.

Who are these players? Are they good enough for senior intercounty with the effort and commitment required?

All this nonsense of underage success, club All Ireland's.…don't matter a damn.

When Johnny Glynn returning/being called up was announced that was an indication of how diabolical the situation was.
