    he’s not confident, he’s arrogant.

He also knows that no matter how poorly he does in the debates he can simply claim he won and blame fake news for biased questions. He’s essentially in a no lose situation

Watching Trump speechifying outside the court-room over the past few days, I've been minded to think that he [and some of his acolytes] may have been deliberately pushing against the judge to try and get the judge to find him in contempt and order his detention instead of fining him.

The Hill US political media website ran an article by James Zirin, one of its political opinion columnists in which Mr Zirin opined on whether Trump would take the stand as a witness in his own trial, putting himself at risk of having to plead the fifth if asked questions [and he answered them incautiously] would be self incriminating.

Trump speaks his own mind on opinions of people, as has been noted in the court since he began attending there, and might ignore the best legal advice from his lawyers to decline if asked to take the stand and testify, fearing he would lose the cool while trying to irritate the prosecutor and/or the judge from the stand. He's opinionated enough to do so and might provide the evidence-rope a lot of people hope he would.

Coming back to court after his son's recent graduation and a political rally this weekend, he might be in a bullish mood and believe polls showing him ahead of Biden making him invincible from conviction by the jury.

Is the question coming up for the US to be; that the upcoming decision [either way] of the New York trial jury a line-in-the-sand which independent, dis-aligned or non-aligned voter one will not cross or disagree with where trust in either candidate is concerned or is loyalty to the party to be the most important factor?

What is the size within the US electorate of the independent, dis-aligned and non-aligned compared to the parts which are apparently loyal to Trump or Biden?

How much power will the non-aligned or dissident voter have to upset the ability of either party and candidate to take the Presidency this year?

How much does apparent disdain or disregard shown by either candidate toward section/s of the electorate show up in polls taken from the electorate?

Before even entering the political arena, trump had been on trial and involved in endless amounts of court cases (see trump university for one, he was forced to settle out of court, but the list is very very long).

Since entering the political arena, he has been relying on people like yourself to pearl clutch about the numerous legal action he's involved in. You have fallen for it, again.

    For clarity..

Before becoming President , Donald Trump had been involved in over 4,000 Court cases.

From the 1970s until he was elected president in 2016, Donald Trump and his businesses were involved in over 4,000 legal cases in United States federal and state courts, including battles with casino patrons, million-dollar real estate lawsuits, personal defamation lawsuits, and over 100 business tax disputes.

~40 years in business , ~4,000 court cases , which roughly equates to him being sued/taken to court twice a week, every week since he took over the family business.

And whilst he often brushes that off by claiming that "it's just the cost of doing business and something that happens to every one in real Estate" , that's just not true.

In 2015, Trump's lawyer Alan Garten called Trump's legal entanglement "a natural part of doing business" in the U.S. While litigation is indeed common in the real estate industry, Trump has been involved in more legal cases than his fellow magnates Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., Donald Bren, Stephen M. Ross, Sam Zell, and Larry Silverstein combined. Numerous legal matters and investigations occurred during and after Trump's presidency, some being of historical import.

Those guys listed above would individually and combined have businesses orders of magnitude larger than Trumps.

Bottom line , he's a crook and a scam artist with nothing approaching a moral compass and has the legal history to prove it.

so yesterday trump apologised to the voters on New Hampshire that he couldn’t be there because of court. The primary in New Hampshire happened months ago.

Thats because his grasp on reality is akin to Fr Dougals.

As is that of the attendees at his rallies.

They will believe him and curse the "Corrupt Judges" for stopping him visiting them several month before the trial started..

Two things happened today which may have import for Trump. One is his decision not to take to the witness stand in his NY fraudulent documentation trial, which might be due to his witnessing what his own lawyer put Cohen through on the stand.

The second thing is the release of an interview he apparently had in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on the issue of contraception to which his reply was "We’re looking at that, and I’m going to have a policy on that very shortly and I think it’s something that you’ll find interesting,” Mr Trump said, adding that the “very comprehensive policy” would be released “within a week or so”. “You will find it, I think, very smart. It’s a very smart decision,” he said."

Trump made it clear in a KDKA interview in Pittsburgh on Tuesday that he would leave the access to contraception to the individual states.

However, it was reported later that Trump wrote a denial on his Truth Social site to the effect that he never made the above quoted reply. “I HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER ADVOCATE IMPOSING RESTRICTIONS ON BIRTH CONTROL, or other contraceptives,” he wrote. He claimed that it was a DEMOCRAT fabricated lie, MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION, because they have nothing else to run on except FAILURE. POVERTY AND DEATH. i DO NOT SUPPORT A BAN ON BIRTH CONTROL AND NEITHER DOES THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!

It's hard to understand how such a swift reversal of positions on contraception could be made by a candidate for the presidency, especially when he's midstream in a controversial trial involving certain alleged personal contacts.

Maybe a sign of mental decline?

I haven't looked at this in depth but pethaps he is insisting on managing his campaign hands on whereas it is really too much for him.

That recent "pause for musical effect "episode feels like a bit of an eye opener .

Without the teleprompter he seems all at sea.

When he can just spout deranged verbiage ,there is less of a problem as logic has been suspended for the duration .

Some are even suggesting that the scripts on the teleprompter are actually written to sound like genuine Trump verbiage.

Who is the script writer in that case?

I mean the Trump verbiage was effective for him before. It makes sense a speech writer would copy it. I would guess he is incapable of giving a normal speech so a writer is likely forced into it.

The scenario of him and a scriptwriter sitting down and cobbling together a script does sound like what the usual politician would do in order to maximise the number of happy voters. I think that he does instead listen to the weird bunch in the GOP who play to his ego.

The latest collaboration between him and Marjorie references the reported claim that the DOJ authorised the FBI searchers of the Mar-A-Lago estate to use deadly force if necessary in the search. Marjorie's stated understanding of that is that the DOJ and the FBI were going to assassinate Trump. Planting that in Trump's mind, and consequently his mouth, is only going to have one result; a further close-down of reasoned thinking through things on his part and more of the excessive public statements he's been making of late.

If he DOES NOT lose the NY case against him, due to a hung jury, a public statement will be expected from him, probably from the court steps. I expect the content will not be fully scripted in advance to avoid misunderstandings with possibly legally-slighted persons.

It's because his brain doesn't think ahead. He says what he thinks will make people like him in that moment.

He craves the adulation and the praise so he just babbles and if he sees the smiling face and the heads nodding in approval he keeps going because he needs that dopamine hit right there and then.

He walked out of that interview and his handlers went "WTF did you just say!!!!" and then comes the rapid back-peddling "fake news , Democrat plot" bollocks to cover the fact that he is devoid of intellect or ability to think about anything other than his immediate surroundings and his uncontrollable need for positive affirmation at every waking moment.

This is a guy whose team carry around a mobile printer and print out positive tweets and/or articles to give to him to satiate his need for praise during the day, like a baby with a soother.

    He's pathetic.

I am praying a journalist asks him if he used contraception with Stormy Daniels.

I heard a former District Attorney on CNN last night point out that practically any search warrant authorises the use of deadly force. It refers to the searchers carrying side arms and authorises them to do so. Unless the DOJ had directed the Boy Scouts of America to do the search, there would have been an authorisation to use deadly force. The DA then added, and I paraphrase, plus the Secret Service knew they were coming and their job is to protect the former President.

The line, "within a week or so" is the tell. Based on his history, this is a holding line. He uses this when he doesn't have a plan or doesn't know the details and is hoping he can get a positive response from that and then simply move on.

Did he even realise the difference between abortion and contraception? I doubt it. I assume he was answering a question on abortion and that is why, when he had time to realise what he had been asked and answered, did he have the big row back and claim it was all fake news.

So its not hard to understand the swift reversal. He says something off the top of his head. Either not understanding the question, not understanding the item itself, of just being confused. When he has time to think - or more likely when he is informed what he realy said - then he shouts that he was lied about and its all fake news. We have seen this situation multiple times in the past.

Exactly - He is asked a question like "Are you going to do something about Contraception?" and he doesn't quite understand what they mean (because he's dumb and doesn't read or do research/prep of any kind) so rather than say no or ask for clarification he comes out with the line we've heard over and over again - "we're working on a plan and it'll be out very soon and I think you'll be very happy with what you see" because he needs them to like him and give him positive feedback.

That's his go to "I have no idea what you are talking about here so I'm going to spoof" line that he has used ever since he got involved in Politics.

We know he didn't with Karen McDougal because she told Aderson Cooper.

I don't know if SD was asked the question or volunteered the information..

His supporters moved long ago past things like ''evidence''or even ''the proof of one's own eyes''. They only accept what their beliefs dictate. A Trump suffering from aphasia and advanced dementia could attempt to debate with Winston Churchill, Roosevelt or Cicero resurrected from the grave. He could counter their finest oratory with ''flub ajub, flib flab flum'' and his supporters would claim that he walked the debate by a mile and tore them to shreds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,747 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

I guess that he didn't understand the question being put to him was about contraception and not abortion and he didn't assess what his answer should be before replying, and conflated the two. It was good that that happened as it show's his actual attention to detail. Now it'll be up to women and girls at state level to ensure their safety comes above their voting for him.

Its worth noting that his rapid backtracking shows he has people [whomever they are] he pays attention to when they showed him the actual words he used in his reply to the interviewer, and his use of the capital letters on Truth Social displayed his own annoyance in himself.

I think I've seen proof that Trump has lost it and is not capable of giving an "off the cuff" sensible public statement on his present trial situation in NY City. The Independent has run a short video recorded of Trump apparently standing outside the court in New York reading a scripted statement from a page in his left hand about the DA [Bragg] prosecuting him, claiming that Bragg has spent tens of millions of tax dollars [on cars] while people are being mugged and killed outside and he's never seen anything like it in his life.

It astounds me how Trump never admits error, and people are ok with that.

I honestly believe that trump does not believe in failure or loss at all. There's only winning. There is no other option.

This alone must be a sign of mental instability. I firmly believe how we handle ourselves when we make an error shows our strength of character.

When have you ever seen him act contrite, or apologetic, or even admit a small mistake?

To me, that is not a sign of a good man or a positive role model in any way. Imagine if a child acted that way?

The reports of him falling asleep during his current hush money trial and the late night rants would lend support to those claiming he has dementia.

As for a script writer, there are plenty of people aligned with the gop who are capable of producing verbiage and there are also AI applications that can do the job

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,747 ✭✭✭✭aloyisious

I think that for him to do otherwise would be [for him] an admission of failure, ergo; that he is a failure, something he could not [even in a once-off occasion] publicly admit to. It must be due, amongst other leanings, to his upbringing that he can't admit to a normal [I ***ed up] human failing. That being so, it's the bed he's made for himself and I'm not minded to help him smooth out its blankets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

It's beyond bizarre that his supporters don't see the refusal to admit failure as ironically enough, a huge failure

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 17,289 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

These are the same people that buy merch with his mugshot on it as evidence that he will never surrender.

A Photograph of his *actual* surrender to police as evidence that he won't surrender.

Of course they won't see an inability to either accept or learn from his failures as the huge failure it actually is.

I'm waiting for Trump to renege on his deal for a debate [or two] with Biden. He's discussing the proposed CNN debate with his faithful while running down Biden and the CNN host.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,748 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

That rally in the south bronx was so **** weird even for trump. He starts talking being able to wear pants and why he wears them, amongst other really odd things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,496 ✭✭✭amandstu

    Prosecution summing up now.

Apparently Trump is annoyed that they got to go last.

I assume this is just normal practice but you can (almost) sympathise with him that they get the last word.

Also his lawyer reprimanded by the judge for bringing up the prospect of jailing the dodderarian and told the jury to disregard it(unless they were salivating over it ,I suppose :-) )
