Whats the story with that brain damaged guy who was in a car crash years ago? He seems to be on Oliver Plunkett St almost on a permanent basis making a complete nuisance of himself.

He could be very frightening for some people who don't know that he's "harmless". I've also heard him shouting some vile racial abuse at people. I'm not sure what should be done for him but I do think he's a problem on the streets as he is. As or many other people who seem to hang out on the streets.

Have seen him throwing stuff at random people, spitting, roaring abuse etc.

He's supposed to have helpers with him but I've only seen them on a couple of occasions.

I can never look at Tayto Salt and Vinegar crisps in a positive manner again. I was on the 203 about ten years back and sitting a few seats ahead of him, he was scoffing a packet away with bits of crisps and spit all over his hands, lips and chin and as he got to the end he called me and offered me the broken up ends of the bag. Yuk ! I'm wrenching as I'm writing this now.

Danny? He's largely harmless but I saw him touch a woman one day on the shoulder and she lost it with him. I stepped in and just said he's not well. Don't think he's been looked after these days judging by his appearance.

After the crash he had the compo money dripping off him, used to come into the shop i was working in spend €50 a day on scratch cards and he'd throw me a couple. That's 20 years ago

anyone know what the story is with the las on the go with 3 shopping trollies full of water, peanut butter etc? poor las - a hazard to herself and possibly others - one of those trollies could potentially collide with a moving vehicle

Apparently she can be aggressive as well so people have said who have approached her.

I haven't seen this person in the city centre, but it sounds like she needs support. I hope the services are aware.

Was in town today and Paul street was awful. There was a Gard talking to someone sitting outside the pub while there was 3 drunks drinking flagons at the entrance to the the centre shouting and 3 lads at the door of the pub who couldn't stand up also shouting. This isn't good enough why weren't all these people moved on by police?

Saturday morning at 11.30am we went for a walk from the Mercy Hospital area via the river walk in the direction of Fitzgerald Park.

Shocked to see 2 separate groups of junkies (approx 400 metres apart) injecting heroin openly as we passed within 2 metres of them.

This used to be a nice place to walk but now a dangerous option …..

Thanks for the link. That's a depressing read.

Literally no other ideas to tackle it, other than add one or two infant gardai to Cork per year?

I've only now heard of this assault that took place in Merchant's Quay SC. Does anyone have any more information?

Lot of understandable negativity but walking from McCurtain street to Wilton today through town and in the sunshine the city centre was hopping. Anywhere with seats outside was jammed. Sure a few sketchy characters around but the volume of people was reassuring. Very nice vibe about today. Even saw a couple of Guards !

Thank god there was some guards around. Someone on Cork Reddit was apparently accosted by a totally out of it junkie outside the Centra on the Grand Parade last Tuesday.

They were punched in the arms and the back and he kept grabbing him or her when they tried to escape. Apparently there was lots of people on the street as well, but no one intervened. This happened in broad daylight as well.

Some threads from the Cork reddit in the last 24hrs:

    Lads kicking pigeons outside hillbilly’s

About an hour ago there was a bunch of men in their early 20s kicking and throwing a pigeon around outside of hillbillies. It was clearly injured so it couldn’t fly off and its feathers were just flying everywhere as they laughed and kicked it around. They were even picking it up by the wing and throwing it at the wall.

I got attacked and nobody cared

Was walking down near Queens old castle past centra on my way to job interview on tuesday and a guy clearly off his head stood in front of me, he started ranting and shoving me and punching me in the arms and back, streets were mobbed as it was about 12pm, I kept roaring please leave me alone and trying to get away but he kept grabbing me, nobody would help, saw one lad watching and laughing through the window of centra, definitely enjoyed the show. I'm not a confrontational person at all so I was terrified, thought he'd pull a knife. Eyes like saucers so he couldve honestly done anything in that state. Called guards, they weren't much help as I couldn't remember the colour clothes he was wearing, funnily enough I find it hard to remember details like those when I'm afraid for my safety. My choices were press charges or ask them to patrol the area. I asked them to patrol area, I passed again about 40 minutes after my job interview nearby and no guards in sight, your man still hobbling around. On a busy cork street shouldn't they be doing this anyway? He was roaring and screaming so you could hear him from miles away. I honestly feel extremely lucky I wasn't mugged or worse. I get people don't want to risk being hurt or get involved, but I could've been stood there in the dead of night and still felt as alone. Doubt they would've blinked if i was stabbed
