Asking them yes- compelling them? It places those covering such events in danger of becoming targets themselves in the future- another way the state wants to interfere

The only thing hate speech laws do, is cause more hate speech, which in turn then calls for even more restrictions. This, all because some people don't like hearing certain things said.

Most of these people campaigning for this legislation are people who have a chip on their shoulder and want to get even.

For people who support this bill, remember laws can be used against you too. Sure you might like it now because it aligns with your views but there's nothing to see those in power can't change and suddenly your views can be the ones being suppressed.

What you’re describing there is democracy, and that’s not the only contradiction. Why would anyone who supports the bill because it offers them protection, be concerned about the idea that it could be used against them, when the only people who would do that are people opposed to the legislation in the first place? In those circumstances, it’s far more likely the Courts would see their efforts as nothing more than frivolous and vexatious attempt to suppress views that person or group disagrees with because the opinions being expressed don’t align with their views.

That’s notwithstanding the fact that the bill is nothing more than the implementation of an EU wide initiative intended to tackle hate speech, and particularly the most common forms of hate speech which target specific groups and individuals in society. It’s really not all that different to the legislation it’s intended to replace which has been in law since 1989.

If however, in the unlikely event that Sinn Féin were ever to enter into Government, the nation would have much bigger problems, that Sinn Féin in particular would want to ensure people couldn’t talk about. Fortunately, most people take a very dim view of kneecapping as a means of thugs meting out their own brand of justice.

It's a chip on one's shoulder to discuss one's experience of bullying? I'm not a fan of his overall but I'm not seeing anything wrong with his statement. You have a bit of an obsession with people who criticize Trump but that's not very relevant.
