I have many many many times been in a courtroom situation.

Hating something will not mean you are persecuted under the legislation.

I'm done trying to explain this to people who quite clearly haven't read/cannot understand the wording

oh ffs....It's called Hate Speech Bill....Hate crimes will be based on the perception of the Gardai.

just that gardai are furnished with all evidence relevant to a criminal investigation so that offenders are brought to justice. Quite a reasonable view in any democracy.

On the basis that according to you they can’t even police serious crimes like assault, theft and drug dealing, it simply cannot be reasonably argued that AGS are going to waste what you call ‘our’ already stretched resources investigating what you call the crimes of hurting feelings or making offensive jokes.

Except it absolutely can be argued because our Justice Minister and our commissioner who's only still in the job because of the ministers backing despite being deeply unpopular with the force and public, will direct resources away from real crime and towards this rubbish.

Well they’re all real crimes, but I gather your concern was resources being diverted from the investigation of more serious crimes, a point to which I would inquire of you - just how much resources do you imagine are necessary to police the enforcement of a law which by your own argument is unnecessary?

The only logical conclusion can be drawn from your argument is that no resources will be diverted from the investigation of more serious crimes to the investigation of less serious crimes. You should be happy with your own foretelling, and yet you don’t appear to be all that smug at all? I’d be fcuking delighted if I’d your powers of insight into future events that have yet to happen. A vandal sprayed homophobic graffiti on the wall of The George a couple of years ago and they were arrested and charged. So the current legislation covers for a lot. It doesn't cover for gender and the more this bill is debated the more it becomes apparent that gender is one of the main reasons, if not the reason, for it.

Under Self ID transwomen can now use women's prisons and domestic violence shelters and on Primetime it was put to Patrick Costello about robust criticism of transwomen in women's spaces. He said it was ultimately be up to a jury to decide if it was hate

This legislation is a very effective tool to cease the keep the populace in line. Once codified the populace will automatically censor themselves. Any that don't can be prosecuted and made an example of. A disgusting term judges here have been happy to use.

Super useful in stifling debate on mass immigration for instance and a sure sign that while fools arguw over whether we have a left wing or right wing govt, the truth is we have an ever larger and more authoritarian one.

It's not called the Hate Speech Bill but the bill is broken down into two sections, hate crimes and hate speech.
