Mine was about 8 weeks but talking to others, that would be fairly quick. Others waiting a bit longer.

Fair enough, thanks. I've a bit to wait so. First strand completed first week of Jan.

    Hello Shiney,

I applied for the new phase in Waterford closed on the 11th of Jan

I never had wind of test for placement OOM or anything, all i received was a message on public jobs about Stage 1 tests between the 12-15th February.

Can I ask how long your process toke start to finish ?

The only reason I am asking is I am in the retained fire service at the moment and have been offered a job that would require me to leave the service, but I do not want to take it on if there is a possibility I might get this say in March/April

    Regards

In my experience, it would be nearly impossible for you to get a start date that quick. All going well, I’d imagine the end of summer would be more realistic. My process started last November 2022, my vetting was fairly prompt and I still had 7 months, from the date of the test to starting the job. I’m not Waterford, but time scales are similar in each control room, I’d imagine.

Hi everyone I’ve applied and waiting further information on the tests in February! Does anyone know what the online tests entail? (Other than the typing test)

There are 3 tests - Attention to Detail, Basic Literacy & General Audio Data Entry.

Can anyone advise on what the salary scale is for this post? Thanks

I think I only applied for Dublin on the application. Did you have to make 4 different applications if you wanted to be considered for Dublin, Cork, Galway and Waterford?

Any good sites you can recommend for taking a few practice tests?

Did you have to fill out a 'vetting form' detailing your employment history, or do you just have to wait while they do the vetting on your behalf?

You fill in a form with all previous addresses, not jobs

I walked out of a job 14 years ago after a dispute with a coworker that escalated. It happened overseas. No crimes were committed or anything. Would that show up on a garda vetting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭rednose

Not at all. Your vetting might take a bit longer with overseas addresses but vetting only shows up convictions, as far as I know.

Its 534.34 and a 25% shift allowance. Theres also sunday allowances but i haven't been paid that yet 🙈😂

Can I ask, is the 25% fee paid on a flat rate fee based off the 534.34, or is it just based on the nights rate and Weekend. It's quite vague. Have you just not worked any Sundays yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭rednose

It’s 25% of the total, not just nights/weekend hours

Totally failed the audio test. The accents through me right off. Must get my hearing checked after all 😅. That's me out of the running. Such a shame 😑. Thanks for all the info again and I hope you all do great 💓

Everyone will struggle with the accents. Did you use the F8 and F9 keys?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭coolio83

Stop, that slowed me down even more. It took forever to spell anything. 🙄 #pointless

I am totally in the same boat. With the other 2 tests I got through all the questions, might have skipped a few, but I'd say I only filled out 3 or 4 of the data entry one!! 🤣 I was here waiting for your man with the spelling, took so long!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 overthemountain

3 or 4 questions for the data entry with 8 or so fields per question. That's not bad. That's almost one per minute. Just think about it, if you were able get all that information correct in real time in a real situation with accents not easy to understand, you'd be doing very well indeed.

It's all about the OOM unfortunately. I know from looking at past posts, that 4 or less won't even give a look in 😓x

To be sure of 100% accuracy the most you could possibly get would be about 4 to 5. You have to use the F8 and F9 keys. If the information you entered is all correct, you'll get through stage 1 imo.

I only got through 5 on my audio when I done it and I got a fairly good OOM. So don’t lose hope

8 weeks and counting today for extra clearance.

    A decent wait!

    Hello Irish_Twisted

My vetting took roughly six weeks in total but I had addresses overseas to look up also so that may have taken longer.
