Since when is 91k kms high?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,960 ✭✭✭User1998

Its high enough for a 4 year old Porsche, and high compared to what else is out there. Its travelled around twice the average mileage per year I believe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,985 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Average mileage being 15k miles / 25k kms no?

You'd wonder how much anyone needs a car let alone an EV if you're just pottering down the road for milk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,960 ✭✭✭User1998

I think the 25k km’s figure is for diesel cars, petrol cars are around 15k km’s, I have no idea what the figure is for EV’s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,021 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

3 km trips to the shops is the average for diesel since 08.

91k KMs not high, just can't charge the same as one with half that

Ah. Jaysus. Average vehicle miles in Ireland has always been 10-12k miles. Since we were doing the whole miles thing.

    Source.. I just told ya

10k to 12k miles = 16k km to 19k km tho? So wouldn’t your figures make me more right than you are?

And we’re talking about a high performance Porsche, they aren’t exactly an average vehicle and would usually carry less mileage than something like a motorway cruiser. I’m thinking 911’s, Boxters etc. They would usually have lower mileage than your average car.

Dont get me wrong, I’ve bought 4 year old cars with over 150k miles before. I don’t consider 90k km’s high, but on something like a Porsche most people would rather lower mileage.

It’s not for your average repmobile, it is high for a Porsche Taycan. Most other Taycans for sale have less than half that on the clock. It wouldn’t put me off the car if it was substantially cheaper but you’d have to be prepared to keep it long term.

One could also say the Taycan has been used more regularly, and usage is what keeps mechanical objects working well. The absence of an engine here makes 91K kms even less of a factor.

Or are we still on a "batteries go on fire" tin foil hat run here?

The question wasn't whether one Taycan should be priced lower than another because of a higher mileage figure, but rather this notion of what is high miles - on any car, let alone an EV. Looked after, in this mileage range, the figure is virtually irrelevant to anyone not stuck in an old and outdated mindset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,960 ✭✭✭User1998

More mileage equals less value. The Taycan posted is relatively cheap compared to others but also has higher mileage, therefore its debatable weather its a good buy or not. Its also closer to its warranty expiring which is a big thing for EV buyers.

I don’t care about mileage as long as its reflected in the price. But others will only buy low mileage. When you compare it to other Taycans, its mileage is quite high.

Interesting if not that this type of model was incentifised which is why the owners bought them, the owners being people that put miles down.

This isn't a traditional Porsche hence it's not your average porsche vehicle. So I think using your traditional thinking for this model is flawed.

I’m not sure that anyone who bought a new Taycan was influenced heavily by a €5K SEAI grant or fuel savings by charging it at home on night rate electricity.

UK cars, which is the bulk of this models conversation

It's a 4 year old luxury GT with high kms for the segment and no adaptive cruise. I'd say thats a normal price and the rest are overpriced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭joe1303l

ACC is a serious omission on the likes of a Taycan. Should’ve been standard kit anyway. Some of them seem overpriced by €15K+ and are sitting around for months. A lot more 2022 e-Tron GT’s available and prices seem to be dropping away even for very low mileage examples.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,088 ✭✭✭Theboinkmaster

id consider that high. imo average mileage is just north of 10,000 miles per year

I'd bet a lot were influenced by the BIK savings. It's still an incentive to buy a Taycan not necessarily a new one though.

Most if not all people I know with an EV have them through a business. Once the bik incentives get too low their value will fall even further a lot of company car drivers will be dumping them and going back to diesel or petrol.

The 10k bik value discount incentive for all cars is set to end this year, it'll be interesting to see what the government do then. Currently 45k bik discount off all EV's if you include the 10k I mentioned.

Most premium badges seem to charge extra for standard modern features that something like a Golf has had for the last decade. Top spec M Sport or S Line means nothing when you still need to add a reversing camera, self parking, keyless etc.

A lot of 5 series don't seem to have folding mirrors?

Porsche seem to have a very personalised options list so buyers can really fine tune the little details they want like doorsill logos, stitching, seat belt colours etc. I added €30k of options on the configurator when bored at work one day. You'd want to hope the previous owner wasn't "ah sure I don't need that" or being a company car without decent options.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Good point. You rarely see 2 identical Taycans which is probably a good thing. It’s sister car, the e-Tron GT has a good standard spec but they all seem to be some combination of grey paint and black interiors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭traco

On the milegae side - I'd think a reasonable amount of Taycans were bought by guys that jumped up from high end 5 series / Mercs and Range Rovers company cars to Porsche as the BIK was low. These guys would do more driving than the more traditional Porsche buyer so I wouldn't think it crazy to see higher mileages on the Taycans.

I think the etron GT is a nicer looking car myself but doesn't have the badge prestige.

How much is it to extend the warranty on a Tycan, anyone know how far you can extended it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭joe1303l

If it’s run like the rest of the VAG group here, you won’t be able to extend it at all. Maybe double check with the Porsche Centre in Dublin ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭traco

99% sure PCD offer extend warrantiess assuming that you meet all the Ts & Cs, initial car check and service with them etc etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,270 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Got a price just over a grand.

Now where's a good entry point, I can't see a desirable colour and spec given away at a bargain price. Lost of odd colours with small batteries and 4 seats seem to be taking the worst of the depreciation.

I'm seeing a good bit of sports battery owners saying about 300 mile range, wonder how realistic that is. It needs to do a regular run for me, 210km motorway and 110km country roads on the one charge. 400km ideally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭joe1303l

PCD are currently advertising some used Taycans with 2 year used approved warranties like this one. If you find out the cost of any available extended warranty products available, you might post details or PM please ? https://www.donedeal.ie/view/36060832

    Porsche Taycan 0.0 Litre Electric

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,270 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

That's exactly the kinda tycan I'm taking about that's going to take the worst of the depreciation, 4 seats, small battery. Colour saves it a bit but still probably one of the least desirable. Extended warranty about €1200 per year.

From what I know Porsche are slightly more accurate on their ranges than other manufacturers but who knows, check out Tesla Bjorn or EV database to verify. Personally I think I'd have to have the larger battery in it. Its a GT touring car so more range is better and I think if I was buying it would be a factor for me.
