Hey thanks, could you explain how this would work a little more? I might be stuck to get home today if I can't get it open

If you can send a picture of the open flap I'll try scribble on it.

Considering an ID3 in 2024 along with a BMW i3- if any owners would like to give their good/bad/indifferent views of their own purchase of ID3 considering you’ve had them now for a few years very happy to listen to you as I may well end up buying yours from a dealer in the coming months- or not - thanks in advance

The ID.3 is a decent car. Nice to drive... think Golf.... it's basically that.

If you are buying new then I think you have nothing to worry about.

If you are buying secondhand then you have a couple of small considerations....

    1) the issue posted just above about the charge flap (they are starting to fail now on some cars). It's not an EV issue. It happens on VW ICE cars too.

    2) drop links in front suspension can prematurely wear in the very first batch of 1st editions, should be OK on anything from 212 onwards.

    3) Ensure any car you buy is on v3.2 or later of the software. It will mean that you wont have any of the software issues that you will see on every discussion forum about the ID cars. The vast majority of those issues are resolved.

Those 3 issues are covered under warranty if they need doing as long as the car is <3yrs old and less than 90k km's OR <2yrs old (unlimited mileage).

I dont have experience of the i3 but a big one would be that it's a 4 seater. If that's not an issue and the rear doors dont bother you then it's a decent car by all accounts with most owners being very happy with it. Maybe post to the i3 thread to get more specific feedback on it in terms of range etc (which wont be as much as the ID.3).

Have both, two great cars- just make sure to get a well spec’d id3 with Matrix set up, travel assist and 3.2. Travel assist with 3.2 is brilliant, multiple lanes displayed and the car adapting to other drivers, side assist comes with travel assist- I’d look for a tech model. I’ve had a born for 10 weeks and was happy getting the id3 back, spent two weeks before Christmas in a MY and was glad to get the id3 back, the Y is a big car.

i3 is an i3, brilliant little car, I’ve nearly 190,000km’s on my 161 Rex and it’s still giving the same range as new, ultra reliable- just replaced the 12v for €130 and an oxygen sensor for €90, that’s about all I’ve had to do apart from the normal 2 year service (€140) in 7 years of ownership.

Thanks a mill - great to learn about the “known issues”

Mine was like that for months while I waited for parts. Just give it a pull here, slip your finger behind that tab and it'll pop open.

Cheers, I went back out and unlocked it and it released, will try the above if it sticks again

Might reach out to vw Ireland on the customer service I'm getting from a particular Cork branch

Brilliant thanks a mill and sorry I don’t mean to bring the thread off topic talking about the i3 - I mentioned it as an and also but much appreciate your contribution there too

That EV Depreciation thread is giving me the willies (well it was before the trolls arrived). I’m paying 410 a month off my 0% interest PCP. It’s up at the end of July.

Does anyone reckon that depreciation is moving quicker than that?

I’m driving a 212 145hp Family edition (matrix headlights, reversing camera, dual climate control, sunroof) on 51000km and adding 1800kms per month.

Cutting through the bullshit that's being spouted everywhere the depreciation is about normal for a 3 year old car. Like the old days, you'll pay more if you move to a different maker, if you stick with your present brand they'll give you the best deal. Don't forget the price of the new car you'll be looking at has dropped too.

Thanks for the replies. Paid about 37.5. There’s a little under 20 left - 17 of that is the guaranteed value.

if I wait until the end of the PCP I’ll have spent another 2.8k in repayments. The big question is will the car have depreciated by more than 2.8k in 6 months? If so, I should probably look at options.

Based on DD (though the search isn't working properly atm), looks like that cars going for low to mostly mid 20's. High teens up to 20k is where the trade is today would be my guess.

You could read way too much into that depreciation thread, it’s been on fire lately, people talking like all of a sudden your car is worthless, which it isn’t - the market needs to adjust, the price gouging hasn’t helped and those who purchased at those inflated prices will feel it more, however, as pointed out above, the cost to change into a new car has also reduced. You also got a 0% finance deal which is a winner …

VW still want to sell new cars so they might offer you a decent cost to change deal, but jumping ship because of hear say on the depreciation may not help. Lots of people still in la la land, look at the price of 2021/22/23 model 3’s…You’d swear that you will be picking up an id3 for 15k in June, less than an egolf ..I may regret that statement, time will tell-

What equity were you hoping for when you signed up to the PCP? Obviously as high as possible but realistically what were you hoping for?

Typically a 3yr old car is worth 50% of new price so any equity above your GMFV is a bonus and if VW offer you no equity on it then you hand it back and your PCP has protected you.

Presumably the wise thing to do at this point is wait until July and see what VW offer. Ultimately they will want you to go again so its up to them to entice you.

And bear in mind that a new ID.3 (with more BHP than yours) has come down in price to €37k so the cost to change shouldn't be that bad but it depends on how badly VW want to keep you on the PCP merry-go-round. It will be interesting to see what they offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,049 ✭✭✭remoteboy

Was never really about the equity, more being sure that it wouldn’t be worth less than the final lump sum. Any thing else would be a bonus tbh. First time on a PCP so very much new territory for me.

I’ll drop the dealer an email and see what the options are.

How early before your PCP is up do they contact you?

I'm not ending my 3 year PCP until August on a Tour. Most likely just going to keep it but I'll look at my choices.

I wouldn’t look at it now for a couple of months. A bit of readjustment going on at the moment. Mass market not yet accustomed to buying second hand EVs. Things could look very different in a few months time.

our pcp is up in August. Very happy with the car so we will hold onto it if we can’t get a deal that suits. The major temptation would be the id.7 estate but its huge and im actually enjoying having a smaller car for parking etc. dont want to lose spec either.

That's the big issue, our Tour has everything, HUD, 360 parking cam etc. Once you've treated yourself it's hard to step back.

You’ll have paid 2021 prices which should mean you’ll be ok.

it’s people who paid inflated 2023 prices that are seen big depreciation

    It's a far nicer id.3. 42k for a 58kWh and 48k for the 77kWh. 0% PCP too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,459 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

    And there's the problem.

€48k for the 77kWh. I paid €41k for my Tour.

Tour was €42k at the time plus €1k OTR. I haggled them to €41k total and it was 0% PCP at the time.

Final value is about €18.5k I think.

Maybe, but on the other hand I got a fantastic deal on my 211 trade in, a deal I'll never see again.
