Some trans women are actually straight men. This is a fact. The only thing making them trans women is their claim that they are so. Literally no different than Linehan joining a lesbian forum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,232 ✭✭✭✭Annasopra

No. Its not a fact. Linehan is a cis man so that's irrelevant. Trans women are trans women. Your claiming they don't exist doesn't make it a "fact'.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

OK. So he doesnt think it's actually a paedo movement, he's just calling it a paedo movement to draw attention to it? Is that what you're saying?

Ya, you're just being an apologist for hateful behaviour now.

Linehan has said absurd and hateful things like transwomen are nonces, that men who support transwomen are misogynists - his style is bully-like.

I agree with him that conflation of gender with sex is preposterous (woman and man are not genders) but it ain't what he says, it's the way that he says it.

If we can’t agree on basic logic I obviously can’t win. Yes trans women are trans women. They can also be men at the same time.

PS Linehan is a man. I don’t abide the term cis at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

I do believe “paedo movement” is a wrong term. I don’t have a big an issue as some with him using the term though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

Like I said before, depends fundamentally on your definition of hateful behaviour. I’m trying to bring a balance to the definition. By some peoples standards I am absolutely a hateful person. By others (in real life) I am quite meek and gentle.

To add: I’ve actually listened to Linehan speaking, rather than take one liners from Twitter with facetious language. He is far from the evil scumbag people have made him out to be. It’s mostly hearsay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,614 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

At what point can you claim balance on the issue when you're justifying him setting up fake dating profiles to mock trans people?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

I don’t agree he did it to mock trans people. He did it to show the absurdity of an ideology that expects us to believe every man who claims to be a trans woman.

PS I’m not saying I think it was a great idea by the way. I just don’t get the outrage.

Seriously lads, the OP believes the earth is flat and moon landings never happened. Why the f*ck would you bother?

There is no balance. This is trying to defend his indefensible unhinged behaviour and pretend his behaviour is reasonable. It's trying to make his hatemongering seem rational, reasonable and acceptable. We all know his behaviour is bullying and hateful abuse. That some people seek to downplay and defend that is not in any way balanced at all.

Well his behaviour gets a pass for me because it is highlighting child abuse. There are many of us that agree with his intentions. No doubt he will make many more mistakes along his path.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Feisar

He cannot get a free pass because he's all about the kids. Exactly how have his actions highlighted a wrongdoing that couldn't have been dealt with differently?

I think they "forgot" to mention he was in the act, when they booked the venue...

Well I can speak from my personal experience: in work one day at the lunch table, during a discussion on Father Ted, a colleague brought up Linehan in the context of “see yer man that wrote it is gone nuts”. He went on to explain how he is “mad homophobic”. Oh right, says I. So curiously I did a bit of Googling and YouTubing and came to realise that Linehan is far from a nutty homophobe. He speaks a lot of sense, admittedly with a sharp manner at times.

Before that, I had no idea about the trans ideology hoovering up children.

And I'd say you've gone down a similar rabbit hole to him which isn't particularly grounded in reality.

As are those that are pro children transitioning.

The irony saying that my views aren’t grounded in reality when talking about children “feeling they are in the wrong body”

When you are overtly defending Linehan of course people are going to question your judgement.

If only you knew me…I’m the ultimate skeptic!

Listen I’m not dying on this hill. I just despise hearsay such as “yer man Linehan is nuts” without anyone actually listening to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

You are right on that. Fully expect it. He is a taboo subject.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,232 ✭✭✭✭Annasopra

    🤣

Well that's nonsense. Many people opposed to Linehan have listened to exactly what he is saying.

I guarantee you the majority of people couldn’t quote anything he has said. It’s all hearsay by definition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Feisar

Again what has he actually done? As fair as I know kids cannot just transition willy-nilly? (Pun written unintentionally but worth a chuckle). I've read about kids being schooled on forums about what to say to medical professionals, something somewhere about trans women wanting to frolic about in a pool with kids. However there is no trans hive mind as far as I'm aware. There is no generic trans agenda. Bar acceptance which we all want. Sure there are those that shout the loudest/wackiest stuff that'll grab attention/outrage but most folks are just trying to get by. Yer dealt a hand of cards, all you can do is play them. Plus the whole LGBT+ outfit, there's money to be made so ya gotta have new fights to fight all the time. This applies to all NGO types though.

Sure. Now you're in the realm of not having a big issue with throwing around the term paedo when you don't like something. Cheapening the term paedo, comparing something you oppose to paedo. It can't feel good to be making that argument, can it?

But to be fair, that's what I wanted to see. The best bit of boards is watching someone make a stand, and then stick by it no matter how they have to compromise their integrity to do it.

To be fair reasoned debate is hard here. I've in the past had opinions, debated a bit and changed my mind. Next post is "backpedalling much" etc etc. No, I've taken the points raised, digested it and formed an opinion which aligns with the argument being made against my points.
