The SA squad's average age was 1 month older than the Irish squad I believe.

The current one or the one from 2019? Just out of curiosity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,236 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

On phone so can't find links but remember reading it's around 28 close to 29 as average age of world cup winning squads with an average cap per man around 40 caps

Does anyone know if the England v Wales match is available to Amazon Prime viewers in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,236 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

It's on premier sports. Don't think it's on amazon here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭Shehal

The one from 2019, I think the average age was like 28.7 out something like that and Ireland's was like 28.6. Im not a 100% sure as it was 4 years ago and my memory is fuzzy but I'm fairly sure it was 28.5 up to 28.9.

The SA squad from 2023 is like 30.3 or something like that so definitely older.

Ireland's handicap to beat Romania is -51 points at the moment.

Judging on Romania's performances against the US and Georgia this handicap actually seems like a conservative amount...

    This is utter garbage.

Fiji and Japan probably looking forward to playing Wales and England going by this game

Total lack of composure, skill and brains in England v wales

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,209 ✭✭✭fitz

Both sides are terrible, but England have had so much ball and have done nothing with it. They look completely clueless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭Shehal

I actually like the team England named but my god they look clueless.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,209 ✭✭✭fitz

Arundell deserved a yellow for stupidity alone. Not looking good for Van Poortvliet. Not sure he's much of a loss for England though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,757 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Jack van Portvliet coming off injured for England is probably a blessing in disguise. Was a very good player at U20s but has looked out of his depth whenever I’ve seen him at this level.

Billy V is a busted flush imo...has he actually gotten over the gainline at all so far? Seems to just get stopped in contact every time. He's not the destructive carrier England wish he still was.

Yeah I thought the same, gone be the days off busting through and offloading. Seems a spent force

Itoje is another who looks done

Dombrandt was their next hope at 8 but hes not an international level player.

I honestly think England are going to get completely embarrassed in the world cup, as might Australia but at least eddie jones is building for the future.

The England team after the world cup is going to have to jettisson a long list of players like Cole, lawes, Marler, Billy V, care, youngs, Tuilagi and there isnt anyone coming up that looks like taking over

Roll on twickenham next march, always nice winning there!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭standardg60

Both these teams will struggle to get out of their groups if this is the best they can do.

WC pools looking more and more lopsided

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,644 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

The problem is that one of these teams or the others on that side if the draw might discover some form and between that and the easier games could ambush someone in a semi final.

Has to be a yellow for England and try for Wales.

Ridiculous stuff. Not even trying to catch the ball, tackled in the air, and prevented a try.

Penalty try and yellow card is the only option.

  • Registered Users Posts: 549 ✭✭✭MaddChris

With every passing week, Pools 3 & 4 in the RWC become more and more of a joke

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,757 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Why would the ref want to see if Williams scored or not after deciding that it was foul play? Even if he did, Wales would surely want the penalty try instead of potentially missing the conversion?

Commentators really scathing towards England here.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,209 ✭✭✭fitz

I don't understand that either. You'd be punishing the team for having managed to get the ball down. If it's a penalty try worthy offence, just award it and move on.

England just hanging on here with 13 men.

So much space for Wales with some quick offloads.

    Edit:

Another England foul play called. He could be off with a red.

Farrell shoulders someone in the head.......... what a suprise

Saw that live and wondered was it shoulder to head. This should be a red and this could be his world cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭TheRona

How many times will Farrell do these tackles? He needs to get this out of his game. He needs a ban to go off and practice tackling.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,209 ✭✭✭fitz

    Ah, an Owen Farrell special.

    That should be red.

Tackle school obviously didn't do him any good. You'd have to think he'll miss some group games at least because of that given his previous record.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Argentina will surely make the semis going by this

  • Registered Users Posts: 347 ✭✭bingobango12

    England are a shambles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭Shehal

This is the part of the TMO bunker that I dont like. That is clearly a red card so why the hell are we wasting time reviewing it? The bunker should only be for decisions where there is clear doubt.

Ofcourse now that I said that the bunker will come back and say its a yellow!

Smart play & try. Only way they were realistically to score & they get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭standardg60

    Well this has livened up!

Wales subs making a massive difference.

England rugby in a very bad place right now, will Borthwick even make it to the WC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,331 ✭✭✭ongarite

    It's a red. 3 game ban?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭standardg60

    That red was obvious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭Shehal

Well you didn't really need a review to determine that to be a red card.

England back with a chance, you know its a poorly coached side when Maro Itoje looks average.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭TheRona

They came to the right decision. Not a big deal.

I wonder how much of a ban he'll get.

    Watch Wales blow this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,909 ✭✭✭Shehal

Farrell will likely miss the Argentina game in the RWC now, with his record I cant see him getting much leniency.

England back up to 14 so there's still a chance.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,209 ✭✭✭fitz

His last one was 4 games, reduced to 3 for going to tackle school. You'd have to think it'll be at least 4 games this time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,082 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

They don't get to choose. The infringement doesn't prevent a probably try from being scored, if they try is actually scored.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,827 ✭✭✭irelandrover

This was better. To be sure it's a red they'd have to watch a few different angles to make sure the first contact wasn't to the chest.

The correct decision is still met here with minimal disruption to the game.
