But why was it necessary to pay him extra? Very strange he's a mediocre broadcaster.

    🙈🙉🙊

This seems like an incredibly convoluted way to get someone money off the books. Is Ryan suggesting he knew nothing about it and somebody in RTE went on a solo run setting up this scheme out of the goodness of their heart?

Tubs getting paid an extra 345,000. The TV License is 160.

2156 people have to pay their TV license to fund the EXTRA 345000 that Tubs was getting.

Maybe this might spark a debate on the dreaded TV license.

Same here. The source of the money wasn't coming directly from RTE so Tubs wouldn't really have seen it but would be part of the other sources of income he gets from promotions openings etc.

    RTE got it wrong.

Off topic, I'm watching news on rte +1.

The Connolly Youth with video phones at the Security Conference.. The absolute irony, considering how James Connolly lived.

I mean did they have a transition year student writing the contract?

The advertiser pulled out and they were still liable to pay for his appearances. If it wasn't deliberate it was incompetence. Or maybe they're just not that bothered about where the endless supply of money goes.

Will Dee Forbes appear on Prime Time tonight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,424 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

It's long known that RTE squanders money. And then they have the cheek to ask for an increase on the licence fee.

2 presenters for Prime Time. No idea why. Just one example of a waste of money.

    Revenue.

I lost my **** early this year.. Ive had enough of state biased news, unplugged the TV and heaved it into a skip.

They can still fine you for having a satellite dish.

This makes the whole unpaid tv licenses and extra funding RTE is looking for all a bit suspect - how many more “stars” got paid like this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭bureau2009

What about Tubridy's agent, Noel Kelly Management? They knew exactly his actual income because it was paid to them by RTE.

Did nobody question how his published RTE earnings was below his actual earnings?

    Complete transparency now immediately required.

The TV licence has to go and RTE can earn their way instead of fleecing the taxpayer.

They then can pay this useless cretin any way they want with their own money.

I can't wait for the in-depth RTE Prime Time special on this scandal and attempt to hoodwink the public.

I'm sure it will be on any day now.

Proves the suspicions other have here about the timing of DF and RT departures.

And not to have the foresight to assess the impact of this coming to light versus the sums involved.

    Short term greed.

Very real possibility this will impact Tubridys future career, and may already have done if a factor in LLS exit.

It's not really. Plenty being directed at Tubridy. I don't think any blame should be laid at his door. It's RTE at fault here.

Well perhaps if you read my post you’d see I started by saying this topic has been covered in detail by myself many times previously and I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend further time providing links to the various revenue.ie and other sites to show you where this information lies. If you’re too lazy to look it up, that’s on you.

Are you suggesting I’m lying with the examples I gave? I assure you I’m not. I’m not making wild accusations or leveling falsehoods. The information is there if you need evidence of same. But I’m not your man-servant, sorry.

    Nice attempt at deflection though.

I don't see Ryan Tuberdy getting out of this to handy. Egg on chin.

I don’t believe he didn’t know about this. He was well aware how much money he was getting paid. Set up for just enough plausible deniability.

Well I kept the TV for the visiting Neanderthals, but I honestly have not watched RTE or RTE radio for some years now. It would be too dangerous for the TV and the phone/radio, like you - both have nearly seen the boot end of my foot.

Just for example have a look (maybe you already have) at the schedules for BBC radio 4. Endless stuff and for that alone, well worth their license fee.

But I can listen for free. I can get iPlayer with a VPN, but TV is not really my thing anyway.

Not saying they won't circle the wagons in time, but they did lead with it on the News and spent twenty minutes talking about it. David McCullough asked some pretty pertinent questions to the head of the board - like what the hell was going on, how can there be massive fees on top of the payments themselves and who authorised this? will heads roll etc - she was often left stumbling around with no substantive answers - and other RTE reporters did bring up the reputational damage and the issue of complaining of having a funding crisis while you're secretly funnelling away hundreds of thousands. Whatever about it, you'd have to say RTE news themselves have so far given it plenty of coverage.

I never liked Tubridy. Always thought he was an absolutely useless presenter across TV and radio. But I don't know if I would blame him so much here as RTE itself. I'm open to correction here and I'm more than willing to get all mad and pissed off at him.

A killer maybe not - a thief absolutely along with all his pay masters in RTE.

An inflated wage with no grounding in reality is bad enough without payment of nearly double the median salary of the nation yearly.

Add to that the hounding the public is getting over TV licenses, the push to change it to a medie license, and the hounding the government is getting to collect said license at source makes this all a bit of a piss take.

This shows all their financial figures are untrustworthy and they have zero grounds to seek a cent more in funding until everything is cleaned up.

Apparently it cost over 80k to make the payment to him also? What is that about? how many pensioners had to pay their fee for that waste for money?

What a snake. Resignation because time was up my hole.

Incompetence on RTE’s part and pure unadulterated greed on Tubs part.

Can’t wait for his SVdeP ad. this Christmas telling us about poverty and to give generously.

It is of course RTEs fault but he was happy to play along and not correct the record either for all those years where the wrong amount was published.

This opens a complete can of worms for RTE. They need to explain why they acted as a middleman between RT's own company and this commercial partner - why didn't they deal with him directly. Additionally, they need to explain why they went guarantor on a third party deal.

It absolutely stinks of trying to present a false narrative to the public, using accounting tricks to hoodwink the public. RTE needs to go. Truth matters me bollocks.
