Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Nice looking car, I like that grey colour and the interior. Should be quite lively even in base model.

    Appears to be more Kona size in the back though, not as spacious as an ID3. Which is fine if you don't need the space.

    5.7s is plenty quick alright, that's still fwd hot hatch performance, i30n,, focus st are getting that

    I think the only people buying any VW ID series are doing so because of the 0% finance from VW bank and the brilliant pcp gmfv and I wouldn't blame them

    Nobody else is offering over 52% GMFV,

    Volvo are using BOI at 5.95% and a lower gmfv on pcp, like Telsa with AIB, VW have a massive advantage there, basically being it's own bank.

    I'm no VW fan but that's an enticing deal, seeing as most buyers would be using finance when these cars are basically a years salary to most workers, no minimum deposit requirement either and they supposedly doing scrappage on the qt

    Some additional clarity on Pricing:



    These prices below, include the delivery charge:

    Metallic Paint for any colour except Vapour Grey + €750

    Interior Rooms: 

    Indigo is standard on Plus or Ultra Models

    Pine is €650 extra on Plus (Not available on Ultra) (or with Cloud Blue)

    Ultra Models Interior:

    Breeze:€1,150 extra

    Mist is €1,350 extra

    Isent the GMFV offset againts the market value of that car at trade in time once the PCP runs out? so essentilly the equity is the difference?


    Wouldent having a lower GMFV and a more desirable car at the end of you fincince term leave you in a better space for a trade in?

    If you intend to keep it yes and think it will be desirable, but keeping an EV out of warranty wouldn't be something I'd do, I'd prefer the lower payments and roll onto a new pcp, like you do with a phone as tech improves on them

    I would prefer the GMFV high as VW will take the hit, as I personally think EV's are gonna depreciate like a rock soon enough, as production ramps up, Tesla keep fire sailing and the out of warranty used one's hit the market that no one wants, 60kW charging like in a Kona or eNiro, Ioniq, Leaf etc will be old hat in 3 a few years, a lot of uncharted waters coming with EV's heading into 2030.

    I like it, but the WLTP range for the Standard range plus is only 344kms for €40k. That's over 80km less than the 58kWh ID.3 and approx 150km less than the Model 3 RWD. The extended range EX30 is about €46k which would be closer to the Model 3 in range.

    Just head back on some queries.

    Car Warranty is 3 years, extendable by 2 further years, costs tbc, but should be similar to the larger XC40, which is €755 for 2 additional years.

    (edited, as only extendable by 2 years)

    Battery warranty is 8 years or 150,000, no details on degredation %.

    Car price, includes a 3 year service pack, including normal wear & tear items:, brake pads, brake discs, wipers, air filter, but NOT tyres, extendable to 2 further years, costs tbc, but should be similar to the larger XC40, which is €500 for 2 additional years.

    There is in addition, a one off €500 contribution, to your insurance via a Volvo broker.

    There is definitely a niche for a small EV “premium”, thats why i got an i3, its a 2nd car, and suits my needs perfectly well. I don’t need a big car, or a big range, or one that practicality is king. but i do want one, that is very well equipped, the XC40 is exactly that. This won’t meet everyone's situation or needs, but it will, for a smaller portion of the market.

    Good question, i missed it, but it is on the brochure, on all models as standard, except, the entry level Single motor.

    Yeah its a little bit small size wise and 50kWh battery is also a bit small, but you know what fair play to Volvo

    They've drawn a nice line in the sand for EV prices, I would consider Volvo a premium brand, with Lexus, Audi, BMW etc or a bit below that level

    If I was looking for an EV and saw this Volvo for 40k, I would expect Skoda, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Nissan etc to start at 30k

    Between the Tesla price drops, this fast little Volvo and used EV's depreciating like a rock lately, it's actually looking good for affordable EV's for the first time.

    Looks a nice car, in a popular segment. But pricey, I would imagine most sales will be for the lowest priced version, still powerful and enough range for many, but not for those who are used to 300km in colder months without having to stop to charge. And the lowest price version doesn't appear to come with a heat pump.

    I don't use the word 'Premium', but hopefully this is a well made car...

    Spirit and Volvo Ireland both told me that there'd probably no cars in the country until end of year/Jan. Supposedly initial production is starting week 40.

    Now, I tend to take dealership info with a grain of salt so we shall see.

    It's a cool little SUV and looks great. I've always found Volvos to be a bit on the small side lower down the range so I expect this will be the same. Volvos are usually around 10k more than they really should be based on size but this one seems to be fairly priced compared to the XC40.

    In the end, I booked new Yaris Cross for now. EX30 will take time to arrive and first version may need regular updates like any new EV. Tried ID3 but too pricey for the size of car and interior kit. Was never a fan of Huyndai and Kia to start with so that leaves Toyota

    Got an update that there may be an EX30 in the country for October.

    Also found out that my local dealer alone has over 150 deposits down for the EX90, without anyone even seeing one in person.

    Had a quick look earlier in Mahon Point, they had an “Ultra” spec model,in leather, test drives in January. Very stylish and modern.

    Nice crisp and big enough central screen, window buttons operated from central console will take getting used to, boot size as expected, but Frunk was surpisingly very small, will just about take a charging cable, my i3 frunk is bigger

    Global Embargo on Driving Impressions is lifting on Monday morning for the EX30 and there seems to be a bit of interest out and about but none of here so I said I'd start a new discussion.

    The comparison in size to a Fiesta doesn’t bode well for a €38K+ car. Very tight for rear legroom and bootspace quite limited. Nicely finished inside though. Unlikely to be a runaway sales success but it’s a nice car if you don’t need the space.

    It’s only when I use the DJI app also, can’t get my head around it and I’ve tried to do a bit of a search online to see. Jack input on my Sony is screwed (would expect better from them to be honest) but that was the handiest setup as the audio track was combined with the film. I’ll probably go back to syncing the audio up, just is a pain to do on a 15/20 min piece.

    It's 20cm longer, 20cm wider and 10cm taller than the latest Fiesta, which itself is a much larger car than older generation Fiestas.

    It's roughly the same length and a bit wider than a Golf. It's around the same size as my id3 with about the same boot space.

    Nothing wrong with that size at all, I'm pleased to see someone still making a normal size car that fits in normal size parking spaces rather than the ever growing unnecessarily massive SUVs everyone keeps bringing out.

    I'm really not a fan of the total move away from practical buttons in favour of one big screen, but everything else about the car is really appealing after seeing a few reviews. It's definitely on my radar as my next car after my id3 as I've been trying to avoid anything bigger.

    I will add that it’s actually quite an enjoyable car to drive. Handles well, single motor is plenty, proper nippy little thing.

    The dual motor seems so appealing with such a big boost in power for not a lot of extra money, but the single motor does seem to be getting the better reviews as the car handles that power better.

    ID3 size is well respectable, I'm surprised with the lack of love here. That twin motor performance EX30 at €46,000 is a bargain for what you get, it makes the offerings from VW, Renault groups and so on look very unattractive and boring in comparison, who would want a dog slow ID3 when the top of line EX30 is only a bit more expensive. I think even the top of the line MG is more expensive than it

    This is great for the war on EV pricing, it's gonna trickle down and others will have to lower prices, similar to Tesla and its price drops recently.

    The base EX30 for €38,000 is too expensive though, 51kWh battery is tiny these days, the 70kWh in the longer range and performance are what's needed long term

    Reckon I’ll change my Honda e for one of these next year. It’s annoying that the jump to top spec is so much. I do like a glass roof and 360 cameras, but will be difficult to justify the jump I think.

    I just want something small and nippy and back seat or boot size are completely unimportant to me, so this ticks many boxes, should get to test one shortly.

    I hate this move towards not having a binnacle/instrument panel. Yeah sure you get used to it quickly but it to me it's just cost saving for the manufacturers like Tesla and Volvo which they label as some sleek minimalist design decision

    Id disagree about the battery size, I think most peoples use case that is plenty of battery and we should be moving away from 70Kwh + batteries when not needed. I mean the amount of times i've read people say they charge their cars once a week says to me the battery in their car may be too big for their particular use case. Granted its more convenient when taking a long trip, but from a resources POV why not make 3 50kwh batteries instead of 2 75 kwh ones? then make the cars cheaper

    I personally think it plays a big role in efficiency. Saves a lot of weight in extra cabling and instrument clusters. Id even guess the dropping of the indicator stalks on the new M3 highland has to do with weight (and of course cost) saving..

    If you like the design of no instrument cluster or even stalks like the new M3 that's subjective and up to you of course but to make some sort of justification that it benefits the car in some way is fanciful at best. These things are max going to be a couple of kg in a 2000kg car. It's down to either cost savings or shift in design language by Volvo, maybe a bit of both seeing how well it's worked for Tesla.

    I don't actually like it but dont mind it either. Don't own a tesla, but rented a M3LR for about 2 weeks in Italy and the lack of Instrument cluster didn't bother me. However just look at what's going on with door handles, apparently the flush ones reduce drag and of course they do at the expense of ergonomics. A few Kgs saved in an EV will reflect in better efficiency/WLPT and there is where the competition in EV world is
